    What the heck is SCOTUS?

  • @madamfauntleroy & more SCOTUS

SCOTUS - Supreme Court of the United States.

    green job,

We're talking past each other at this point. It's probably not much of an issue for those "low information" voters we hear so much about. This term *may* apply more to swing voters and undecideds than self-identified independents, I'm not sure. Most independents I know tend to be politically well-informed.

What I do know is that the independents I have had political conversations with are trending heavily Dem. Those same people are quite aware we need to get progressive-thinking judges on to the court or our checks & balances become ever more skewed to conservative and leading us further down a path we've come to see is folly.

You seemed to be trying to convince me that your poll indicated the mood of voters not identifying with one of the two major parties, thus my pointing out the polls you cited are incomplete for this purpose. You opined about a broad group of voters not affiliated with the major parties. I tried to give you insight, albeit anecdotal, gleaned from some of those voters.

Should the Democratic Party use this as a major target issue in the general election? Probably not. Does that mean it's not important to a portion of the populace that isn't a "gimme" for the Dems? Definitely not. It could, however, be another way to ask voters, "Can we really gamble with four more years of the same?"

  • Nominate Hillary

If Obama gets the nomination,Mccann is sure to win whatever be the Republicans' track record. So it is the last chance for Americans to get back to Hillary.

  • Madamfauntleroy

Where is he? You were looking right at him.

  • ShawnWM

If you were so worried about the appointments, this seems like a hell of an inopportune time to speak up. The damage is simply done.

I prefer to look forward, Shawn, not back. After NC, it's pretty clear that it would take a major deal-breaker for Obama not to win the nomination. I've said all along that both of the Democratic frontrunners were vexing in their own ways, but the point is that one of them is clearly on his way to winning the nomination. Like I would be if Clinton were the nominee, I am asking everyone to see the importance of the Supreme Court nominations as a reason to vote Democratic in November.

A "protest" vote that would sanction more Scalias and Alitos is NOT a vote for the common good or the future of our country.

  • You are Right ...about one thing!

Yes, you are right about one thing.....I truly believe the Clinton's are extreemly busy trying to dream up that "smoking gun" scandal to kill the Obama effort and knowing those wicked people, I am sure they will. I have noted that in the last couple of weeks that all the talk show hosts that want to detroy Mr. Obama have jumped on that banwagon by repeatadly stating and and intentionally putting this possibility into the heads of people. They can't get off it! I think they are simply trying to prepare the people to accept whatever the Clintons are planning as a a scandal on Mr. Obama.

While I am not really an Obama supporter, I just think it is a shame that much of America is still so stupid to trust the Clintons. God help us all! I really believe in my heart that the Clintons will without a doubt do whatever it takes to get the nomination. I assure you, the Clintons will-absolutely-will come up with something....whatever it takes to stop Obama. Use your own imiganitation about what and how far the "something" will be but just know this, the Clintons surely are going to launca a devastating blow. either propaganda or, oh well...just be careful Mr. Obama.

All I can say is that I believe if they can not come up with something that will destroy Mr. Obama, be careful be very careful because I believe they will definitely TRY do ANTTHING, ANYTHING to steal the Dem nomination! They will! you can count on that!

  • jayjay54

I disagree with those who say Sen. Clinton will do anything to steal the nomination--even if it means manufacturing an Obama scandal. Like her or not, she's extremely smart (her campaign was absolutely one of the dumbest on record, however) and she won't commit political suicide. I have to think Sen. Obama would have done the same thing had she pulled ahead--let the primaries play out, bow-out, and help the nominee get elected.

I think we can all breath easy that Hillary will not be allowed to "steal" the nomination. That is simply not going to happen. Short of something extremely dramatic to completely kill Obama's chances, the Democratic Party cannot afford to lose their AA base and the youth vote. Hillary would then certainly lose to McCain. She does have a huge negative rating across demographic lines. Also, the backlash to the Democratic Party would be enormous. If that should happen, then the brighter side would be that the country will finally be open to a third party. And then again, maybe that is what Clinton is holding out on - to start a third party. Just speculating.

  • The Chess Match is Over; By Resigning with Honor, HRC Creates an Historical Legacy for Herself and All Women

In world-class chess matches between International Grand Masters, when one of the opponents recognizes that he (not many "she's" in this arena of competition) is in an unwinnable position, he resigns. No dishonor attached to it...it's expected. In fact, it's an implicit complement to his opponent's skill. (If I can see I'm done, he also can.)

Hillary Clinton has established herself as an International--or perhaps more difficult in the USA-- as a National Grandmaster of Politics. She knows she is in an unwinnable position. Yet, unlike the Grandmasters of Chess, she refuses to concede.

She, unlike chess players, clings almost obsessively to a hopeless cause...a terrible trait for a chess player and an even more terrible one for a President of the United States.

Her (failed) campaign has opened the door for qualified women to run as serious candidates for the office in the future. Despite her inexplicable, bold-faced lying during the campaign, she has managed to go where no (US) woman has gone before: A female candidate that was taken seriously by the electorate, regardless of party affiliation---something no other woman in the history of the country has ever done.

She was able to accomplish this on the sparsest of resumes; she displayed both the emotional and physical fortitude that voters expect in a potential president; she certainly outdid her distinguished husband on the "grace under fire" front, never appearing peevish or overly sensitive to criticism, never getting red-faced pissed-off at questioners...just a few tears welling up in New Hampshire. Overall, a fantastic performance.

She had the bad fortune to run against a phenomenon: an African-American, good-looking, younger, JFKesque orator who could only be criticized--ironically enough--as "elitist." Who the hell would ever have thought the first serious African-American prez candidate would have to refute charges of his elitism?

She did the best she could; and in doing so elevated all women.

She failed on the combination of her own flaws and Obama's extraordinary talents.

She should resign with honor, like an International Grandmaster in Chess.
