Hillary enters death-with-dignity phase

If she hasn't already quit, it's hard to envision Clinton continuing her unwinnable -- even with Florida and Michigan -- battle beyond June 4.

The letters thread is now closed.

The Clintons are NOT worth $100 million!

Mr. Shapiro,

I enjoy your articles, but in one instance you echoed an ongoing bad media meme about the Clintons' net worth:

> Hillary and her n'er-do-well husband have another $98 million to go before they tap out.

Really??? In the past 7 years they have collectively MADE $110 million, but they didn't bank it all! Do you still have every dollar you made in the past seven years? Apart from taxes, they have also given millions to charity over that time. I'm not weeping for them, I'm sure they will do just fine with future earnings; but I'm willing to bet that the $11 million Hillary has lent her campaign so far represents more than half their liquid assets.

Remember: the woman in this race who has $100 million net worth is Cindy McCain :-)

(also, I sure hope you were being flip about her "ne'er-do-well husband" -- sure wish we could give HIM a third term!)

Our own interests

You people don't get it. Abortion isn't the top issue for most Clinton supporters or even most Democrats, hard as it is for 60's relic latte sippers and cult worshipping college children to understand.

We don't think there is any evidence to support that Barack Dukakis would select adequate supreme court justices and even if we did, that issue issue doesn't justify installing what we know would be a certain economic and foreign policy disaster into the presidency. BD represents the destruction of the Democratic party, which is against "our interests."

We don't think Barack Dukakis has the character or competence to qualify him for the presidency of our country. We think Clinton is highly qualified and McCain is barely qualified.

In short

Barack Dukakis "new kind of politics" = weakness and acquiescence to Republicans.

We don't want it, and it's worth destroying this empty suit's political career now and looking forward to getting the party back on track in 2012. We are enthusiastic about both prospects.

MI and FL issue is a sham

Apparently, obama indicated to Clinton that he was willing to solve the MI and FL matter by splitting the delegates 60/40 in her favor. Her counter-demand was, get this:100/0 in her favor. In other words, she gets all the delegates. This is a reminder to those believing that at some point, maybe after June 3rd, she will concede defeat or accept Obama's win, which is inevitable. She will not. Clinton is aiming to fracture the democratic party and run on a 3rd party ticket in November.

It's called projection,

and it's not just for republicans anymore. I'm astonished and appalled at the Hillary supporters who use the most awful language to accuse the Obama supporters of using the most awful language.

lolcait

You are voting for a foreign policy that has seen oil go over $125 and wrecked the economy.

Do you realise how stupid you sound?

Obama at least represents a different approach to the one that has seen America become the world's leading threat to peace.

So many of the mighty have fallen...

...and there's always the sad period of denial from the faithfull when that line is crossed. Hillary Clinton is now a clown, a buffoon. She's a media freak show. Watching her and Bill court the White Power crowd is both repellent and fascinating. Her supporters know it, but they're in denial. I went through the same thing when Alice Cooper guest-starred on The Snoop Sisters in 1973. I was so apalled and disappointed, but I couldn't even allow my self to recognize the thoughts in my own head. Eventually I did, and I was fine.

Obama vs McCain. Its full steam ahead. The Hillary Clinton saga is just morbid couriosity at this point. She has a couple weeks at best. Her "victories" in West Virginia and Kentucky will be tainted with the stink of her ugly racial tactics. They will just shed a harsh light on this country's uglier side. In the end she'll be left with the loony Taylor Marsh groupies and Hillary44.org and that's about it.

I just don't get it

I realize the Clinton supporters here are not representative of the nation as a whole, but I wonder (as an IND) how supposedly loyal Democrats can be so obstinate? I keep seeing "I will NOT vote for that man if he's the nominee" over and over. I have to assume at least some of these people are serious and/or not part of Operation Chaos or whatever other agenda.

I read this as "Hillary is more important to me than my principles, my country (till 2012), and the Democratic party combined."

Do any of you people have loved ones serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, or know and love young people who might have to serve within the next four years?

I do, on BOTH counts, and you people are depressing the hell out of me.

And that is not even getting into

Said it better than I did.

Shit lolcait did your mother play basketball with your head when you were a baby?

Foreign policy and the economy are McCain's weakest points. Only a complete imbecile would bring them up as a "Vote McCain over Obama."

@ baby boomerang

Yes, they are a bunch of children. But don't worry, it's pretty much the same twelve people over and over again on this thread. Can't be everybody, can it? Can it?

Something interesting to read, from Charles Pierce. Whyncha all STFU and listen to someone else for a while?

The relevance of SCOTUS in voters decisions

Little evidence, indeed. Where is yours WRT Inds, Unds, & SV'S? Speaking for myself (IND), the past 8 years inform my vote more than any Dem candidate's policy positions, and I want my Constitution back.

Please don't speak for me.

Dems obviously need INDs like me & the others on their side - and the current administration is enjoying the lowest approval ratings in history. So unless you have solid numbers to back up your claim that these voters won't lean Dem, or that SCOTUS nominations aren't important to us, you might want to reconsider whether the past 10 elections have any bearing on the present.

10 elections aren't evidence? By the way, When Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, his slogan wasn't "It's the Supreme Court, stupid". Which dovetails nicely with current polling, where voters say their number one issue is the economy.

By the way, I never claimed to speak for you, any more than I claimed that every person of a particular demographic votes with unanimity. And it's a tad disingenuous for you to say things like "Please don't speak for me" and then switch to first person plural.

But, by all means, extrapolate from your personal experience. From now until November, Obama only put out add about how his Supreme Court nominations would be better than McCain's.
