Young and with a degree generally means we have somewhat better economic prospects.
Our major source of debt is student loans, and our earnings are higher than those of unskilled blue collar labour. Qualifications trump experience in wage negotiations.
Our earnings stability is also better, because a young person with an education is a more desirable employee than a person who hasn't got an education who is nearing retirement.
Further required skills have taken a much younger slant, with IT being something that has really taken off in the last 20 years. While a lot of older workers are fluent with computers, there is a general perception that younger workers are more likely to pick up newer programs more quickly.
Of course this is not about who is comparatively better off, or who is economically responsible. If it was the older generation would acknowledge that the greed is good culture of the Reagan years didn't exactly make their case for being more "responsible" than anyone else.
No this is about trying to deliver a slam on the same generation that will end up paying the debts the older generation is currently racking up. A generation that is willing to vote for a tax cut has no call talking to a generation that is going to end up paying for that tax cut about economic responsibility!
