VP
Am I the only one who thinks Bill Richardson would be a good VP for Obama? Foreign policy experience and Hispanic. Wouldn't that be a good combination?
-
@grape
Definitely!!!
That should be worth around 20 pcs of silver...
lol. couldn't resist. :P

Hear, hear, David!
Hear, hear.
It's something else indeed.

well red, you tried
first, when doing this sort of thing, you HAVE to "preview" and second, maybe you could get it to come out by using <-br-> - no, i see you must have. try it again. it's a nice drawing (even has a watch and ring). (and thanks for saying what you sent it for - it would be hard to know for what offense, there are so many (this one really (take my word for it) wasn't so bad - it was so over the top it just made me smile - read it again). and SkylarDexter "I'd rather have a President McCain; I'll support him in his moderate policies, and oppose him on his conservative ones." - i didn't know you were so powerful! that "H" in IMHO was really warranted this time! (usually it's just false modesty)

@sugarman
Good reply. I see that lately X. Hutman & Co. are in "reunification mode" -- now that Obama's won. lol. Pretty slick.
Not changing my mind, though. Will not reward bad behavior.
-
@SkylarDexter
Are you willing to let a President McCain appoint the "strict constructionist" judges he just promised the far right he will appoint, keeping in mind that Justice Stevens is 87 and Justice Ginsberg is a cancer survivor? Because Justice Scalia, one of those "strict constructionists" just said that torture isn't "cruel and unusual punishment" forbidden by the constitution because torture isn't "punishment." Which means, you, SkylarDexter, could be tortured if you are suspected of a crime, even if you are innocent.
And I don't know what your views are on abortion, but if you are pro-choice, the Court is one vote away from overturning Roe v. Wade, too.
Look, I think McCain is a decent man, but while he may be moderate in his approach, he is far to the right on the issues, and is moving even farther to the right to placate the ultra-conservatives.

We are all voting for President and Party
We're not justing choosing a President, we are choosing the Party that goes along with the President. The 2000 McCain is not the 2008 McCain. It's like XP turned into Vista. Vista McCain looks to be a continuation of all the Bush policies with the possible exception of Global warming. So if you don't want a shot at overturning the Imperial Presidency, wiretapping, restoration of the writ of Habaeus, go ahead and vote for McCain. Not to mention all the Executive appointments, the EPA, OSHA, and finally a few supreme court judges. The McCain economy strategy looks pretty pathetic right now, even worse than his foreign policy.
-
@Fester - Perfect
"Its like XP turned into Vista." Sums up McCain's unfortunate journey perfectly.
Of course, we all know Obama supporters are MACs, right?

red, try <blockquote> or <pre>
it really is too good a text-picture to belittle via url. your ASSIGNMENT (should you choose to accept), perfect "the flipping bird", then report.

Sham-a-lam-a-ding-dong!
It's over folks!

"Am I the only one who thinks Bill Richardson would be a good VP for Obama?"
You know, I think on paper he'd be a great choice, but he's a very weak campaigner. Unfortunately, that matters. He just disappeared when he was running himself. His background is great, but I just don't think personally he would resonate with the public.

Sorry to come late to the party
But Shawn, you don't know jack about Indiana demographics. You can visit CNN.com and see IN results by county; Obama won the major population centers with the exception of Evansville (Indianapolis, Gary/East Chicago, South Bend and Fort Wayne).
African Americans make up, I believe, roughly 12% of the population generally; Indianapolis and the northwest corner near Chicago are higher than that; but other areas Obama would have been about 12% black or lower--Allen County, with Ft. Wayne was about that, and probably St. Joseph County, with South Bend, but how do you explain Elkhart County, with demographics seemingly tailor-made for Clinton? White, working class...yet Obama carried it handily. Same with the suburban counties around Indianapolis.
You're entitled to dislike Obama for any reason you choose, and to express that. But if you want to be taken seriously, try not to pull things out of your ass so much.

@hhatchet & weeping
this "obamabot" working-class white woman at the edge of the clinton age-demographic couldn't agree with either of you more (some pages back). yes, we can. yes, we should! yes, we will.
thank you both for your eloquence at opening conceivable windows into my AA friends' & neighbors' souls & feelings. i hadn't quite seen it that way before, and it makes me deeply deeply sad & even angry.
It's how I've felt my whole life. I have to bend over backwards to contain my anger, lest I scare people and in the process discredit myself in their eyes.
A tall order indeed for a black man to be both fiery and sufficiently neutred.

Things to consider as you struggle to justify your support of HRC
1. A lot of HRC supporters cite the economic prosperity of the 90's as one of the main reasons they pledge their support. But even though Bill Clinton was able to balance the Federal Budget, emerging technology markets had roughly 99.9% to do with the surge in our economy. One could argue that fiscal and monetary policies administered under the Clinton cabinet hindered growth and fostered mismanagement during this period, causing the dotcom boom to bust prematurely. Remember it was during this time frame that Enron and similar parties were developing creative accounting practices that would only spiral to disaster at the outset of the Bush administration.
2. Some claim that HRC is more electable in the general election against McCain. There is data that conflicts on this point, as it is constantly revised being real-time data, and conditioned by the external factors, namely whatever controversy is bubbling at the time. What is most important to note is that any data collected today can prove what electability will look like in November when it counts. Rush Limbaugh, the long time anti-Clinton parasite who has spent his entire career to the Clinton family's mortal destruction, has also been Clinton's greatest source of rebound momentum in these last few state elections, and here is why. Because HRC is one of the most despised figures in the eyes of Republicans. I should know, I come from a large family (142 extended) all of which, with the exception of about 5 of us, are staunch southern Republicans. Nobody generates more venom and distaste in Republican circles and they are ever so patiently waiting to pull out the big guns.
For those of you sipping from the Rev. Wright Kool-Aid, astonished that black churches may not have the nicest things to say about white people or our government, I can only offer you extreme caution should Clinton gets the nod for nominee. Remember, the Fox Noise machine, AM radio, the Republican rise to all encompassing power - all of these Institutions were built at the expense of the Clintons. There are entire libraries dedicated to the careful documentation of their wrong doings, missteps, financial improprieties, and fibs. We will witness a 24 hour news cannibalism the likes of which will be unprecedented. Rush and Hannity know this all to well and just biding their time. What I cannot figure out is why some Democrats haven't clued into this but I suppose that is another topic.
3. Finally, and if for nothing else other than the integrity of our form of government, why should we consider electing a family who has already absorbed the 8 year limit of its Presidency. Billary is just that. An amalgam of two individuals who, interconnected by a (say what you will) long lasting marriage, have no doubt shared in the privilege of asserting considerable influence over the executive decisions facing this nation. I have heard this used as a rationale for how crucial "they" would be as our next president, in fact this is what she has predicated her experience on, but unfortunately that is not how our system of government works. We have had an obscene dynastic shroud disrupting the principle of cyclical powers now for going on two decades. By this rationale why not allow Republicans elect Bush again? For all his inept decisions and mishandling of both domestic and foreign affairs, you can make the argument that given the climate, he has the most experience for the job in a current environment.
At some point you have to throw in the towel, she gave O a run for his money but at the end of the race she came up short, and not even Florida or Michigan would help her beat the margin at this point. She can always come back in 4 years, and honestly she may have exceptional chances to do so. Though I am an Obama supporter, I fear that anyone stepping into the mess that Bush has left for them to clean up is going to be virtually impossible. I believe sincerely that Obama has the best chances of doing so, but we are as a party of Democrats not likely to reverse the impact of the last 8 years for decades to come.
