Breaking the Democratic deadlock

If Obama wants to secure the nomination next week, he'll need to recapture the working-class voters who helped him rout Clinton in Wisconsin.

Read it and weep, KcM, read it and weep

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/05/pew_obama_losing_white_working.php

Barack Obama is suffering a serious erosion in his support among white working class Dem primary voters, the new Pew Research poll finds.

A month ago, Hillary held a 50%-40% advantage among white Democratic voters with a high school degree or less. Today, after the Pennsylvania result and the latest flare-up by Jeremiah Wright, it's a 65%-25% win for Hillary among this same group.

Among white Dems making less than $50,000 per year, Hillary leads 58%-34%, up from a 47%-45% lead a month ago.

Pew still has Obama ahead in a statistical dead heat with a 47%-45% lead, but that's down from his 49%-39% lead last month. (Sample size: 651 Democratic voters and Dem-leaners. Margin of error: ±4.5%)

You're kidding, right, Cythera?

If you're going to try to scare me with a TPM post everyone's already seen, at least do the courtesy of posting the whole thing:

"On the other hand, this poll has another piece of information that would show Obama to be at least as strong a general-election candidate as Hillary: He wins 52% of independents against John McCain, while she wins only 44%. The actual top-lines are very similar."

So, we're talking about working-class whites in the PRIMARY only. And, while you seem unable to internalize this, Sen. Obama has had the Democratic primary sown up since Wisconsin.

KcM, it is YOU who are clueless

I am DELIGHTED that Obama will be the Dem candidate given how he's now poison for white working class voters, who will race to McCain. It is GLORIOUS news! Let's hope the Dems don't get some sense and give the nomination to Clinton!

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:08 PM

By the way, YOU should post the rest too

"This runs counter to earlier polls from Fox News and the Associated Press, which showed Hillary doing better than Obama against McCain among independents."

The poll you're hanging your hat on is an outlier. Obama is DONE. Wright has crucified him. HOORAY!

More great polling news, just for KcM

http://www.theindychannel.com/news/16106143/detail.html

On the first day of the survey, Clinton held a 2 percent lead -- 45 percent to 43 percent, despite a 20-point lead for Obama among male respondents. Each day, more respondents supported Clinton.

By the last day of polling, Clinton took 4 percent lead among men -- 45 percent to 41 percent -- representing a staggering 24-point swing.

Over the four days in which the survey was conducted, the controversy involving the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's former pastor, swelled.

"In that window, he dominated all the political news in the presidential race," said Jeff Lewis, TeleResearch CEO. "In that period of time, Obama's lead among men went from a 20 point lead on Friday ... to a four point lead for Sen. Clinton."

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:12 PM

Uh...

"The poll you're hanging your hat on is an outlier."

The poll *I'M* hanging my hat on. Weren't you the one who posted it as some sort of silver bullet?

At any rate, as I've already said, white working-class defections in the primary have no utility whatsoever in the general. Besides, I have every confidence that both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton could win in November, as could my neighbor's three-legged dog, against John McCain.

Keep trollin'.

ShawnWM

I love how you just ignored the point I made. You are saying that the most faithful groups of Democrats in this country are not Democrats at all. I don't see you lumping big groups of working-class rural white people together who voted for Obama in mainly white states like Iowa, Wisconsin and Nebraska as being ruinous to the Democratic party. If all Obama got was black voters, he'd be losing.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:13 PM

Oh, KcM, I know how you must be suffering

to watch your favored candidate imploding so horribly. But I must admit, I find it so sweet.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:13 PM

Wrong on Iraq. Wrong on the Gas Tax. Wrong on Bosnia Snipers.

Yes, Hillary Clinton is too self-absorbed to be our President.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:16 PM

Oh, and did you eat your neighbor's dog's leg?

Better get him ready to run against McCain given how Hillary and Obama are bloodying each other up. Neither may be left standing soon. It's really priceless. Only the Dems could figure out how to screw up this election, but they have, they have...

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:16 PM

Strange.

Yes, Obama is "imploding so horribly" that Clinton supers are defecting to him.

Enjoy your stay in Fantasyland. Don't drink the water.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:19 PM

KcM, all the Dem superdels are proving

is that the Dem Party is full of idiots--like you, who think a super-liberal radical black man can be elected president. Bye bye Dems! Seeya, Obama!

Still layin' down your venereal jive?

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:21 PM

Sigh.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light, Cythera.

It will avail you none come November, when that black man you so despise is elected the 44th president of these United States.

On the bright side, you can start stockpiling your sad, sick vituperation for his 2012 re-election bid.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:21 PM

hello, manless69

Still as dumb as ever I see. No little jingle for us today? Has your tiny brain run out already?

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:22 PM

Oh, KcM, denial denial I understand

You can't admit the truth--that Obama is toast. And of course he is, as anyone but a crazed koolaid drinking liberal can see. To watch him go down in flames will be one of the highlights of the year. You Dems deserve it for nominating such a moronic candidate.

What's for dinner?

I think I speak for Hillary supporters everywhere when I say I just don't trust Obama. Cythera knows what this is about, I've heard her say it. She's on board. Us regular people know what being an American means. A real American. It means regular clothes, not fancy suits. Regular names, not weird terrorist sounding stuff. And most of all regular food. Meat and potatoes. And I've heard that Obama doesn't eat regular food. He eats some kinda african stuff, or maybe indonesian. With mangoes. Well mangoes are not American! Why haven't these fancy wine-sipping news media types investigated? What's for dinner at the Obama house? Why the conspiracy to keep us little guys in the dark? Kepp America American! Vote Hillary!

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:23 PM

Riiiight.

Well, we shall see.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:24 PM

Meet you here on Tuesday, KcM, when you can explain to me

how a frontrunner with all the advantages (money, delegate lead) could lose Indiana by double digits and only squeak out a 4 point win in NC. Until then, keep on sipping the koolaid. You need it bad.

Thursday, May 1, 2008 03:25 PM

I sure hope I'm "Manless"

I wouldn't want you to give him the clap.

The Trouble With Transcending Race

By Marjorie Valbrun | TheRoot.com

Why the Double O's are standing on shaky ground.

May 1, 2008 -- They both have unique names and amazing life stories. They have legions of adoring fans who find them inspiring. They have sold millions of books and can fill stadiums like rock stars.

Few black Americans have occupied the rarified status of Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama, two "racially transcendent" blacks whom white admirers find appealing and admirable. But it seems the pedestals on which the "Double-O's" have been perched are very wobbly these days. Pennsylvania shined an ugly light on Obama's very real problem with white working-class voters. And, since she endorsed him, Oprah's approval ratings with her adoring white public have dipped, too.

Could it be that because of unpleasant and race-loaded issues like the "scary" and "angry" Rev. Jeremiah Wright (Oprah went to his church, too), flag pins and uppity comments about "bitter" white voters, that Oprah and Obama no longer seem so special or different from, you know, other black people? Are they starting to seem kind of ordinary black?

LOL. You can read the rest at the URL in the subject line.
