Breaking the Democratic deadlock

If Obama wants to secure the nomination next week, he'll need to recapture the working-class voters who helped him rout Clinton in Wisconsin.

The letters thread is now closed.

Still think he's bought and paid for by the GOP.

He does not know who he is, or what he wants. He does not know who America is, and what she wants. And most importantly, he does not know what she needs. In a broader sense, Obama does not know how the world works, his place in it, and how important being President of the USA is. Until he figures this out, he should not have thrown his hat in the race.

PS - I still think he's bought and paid for by the GOP and corporate America (which is let's face it, the same thing). He's followed Rove's playbook to the letter. And let's face it, his entire past consists of using government to gain personal wealth better than anyone since Bush's father, Howard Baker, and VP Cheney. Cause let's face it, in Chicago, Obama consistently sided with sleazy businessmen and corps over his constituents every last time.

I totally expect after his big loss to find out that he's got a huge amount of unexplained personal wealth. The equiv of Jefferson being found with a freezer full of cash. The same kind of self-serving, unapologetic low-life.

The Truth vs Barack Obama

http://savagepolitics.com/?p=317

I saw this today, and HAD to share it with everyone. It is just a brilliantly researched and written list of inconsistencies with several of Obama's stories. I think it should be done for ALL three candidates, but I guess this is a good way to start at finally looking at the candidates with some honesty.

Gas Tax

How is a gas tax holiday worse or better than the IRS just handing out checks for $600 as it is right now? Everyone seems to think the $600 per person is a good idea. What's the relevant difference?

Thursday, May 1, 2008 01:58 PM

@luckycat

i think the big differences are that the gas tax "rebate" is much smaller - about a tenth as much and it is specifically for repair of the roads, so, unless there are more appropriations, cash will be missing. no one really thinks that's a good idea. the roads would then start to look like the bridges. but really, they are more similar, than different, i think.

Obama picks up Indiana superdelegate

Today Obama picked up Indiana superdelegate and former head of the Democratic National Committee Joe Andrew.

Andrew, who had been one of the superdelegates pledged to Clinton, today switched his support to Barack Obama.

An excerpt of his statement:

"I have been inspired.

Today I am announcing my support for Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States of America. I am changing my support from Senator Clinton to Senator Obama, and calling for my fellow Democrats across my home State of Indiana, and my fellow super delegates across the nation, to heal the rift in our Party and unite behind Barack Obama."

Two links to where you can find the story: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/05/the-andrew-lett.html#more

http://thepage.time.com/

Obama also picked up four other superdelegates today, making his net sum a +5.

Again I would argue we are already starting to see a small bit of the border state scenario in Indiana. I would expect to see more of these before next Tuesday.

Also the Quinnipac numbers now show Obama beating McCain handily and by almost as much as Clinton in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania: Clinton 51, McCain 37; Obama 47, McCain 38

Same link: http://thepage.time.com/

There is some good news for Clinton supporters, she picked up four superdelegates today, although you have to remember since Joe Andrew LEFT her camp today, she's really only netting 3 additional ones. All of hers are from New York.

Also an RCP poll shows her pulling ahead in North Carolina. I think it's an outlier, but it's there.

The point is, anyone claiming they know FOR SURE which of these candidates is the stronger one is lying. We'll just have to wait and see. There is ample evidence, on both sides, that their candidate is the stronger one.

Personally, everyone knows, I think it's Obama. I also think Hillary has what everyone KNOWS she has which is a 45-47% ceiling. She just can't get above this margin in a general, so she can't win. I also think the fact Obama's won the most states, the most number of elected delegates and the popular vote matter A LOT. But I understand there are arguments the other way.

Tuesday will provide another hint about where we're headed. It probably won't finish it, one or the other. She's not quitting even if he does win Indiana and North Carolina, I bet. But it'll give us a hint.

@elsylee

That savagepolitics.com site you keep shilling for is fucking awesome!!! I agree with Michael Savage 1000%. He's one of the few voices for Real Heartland Americans like me. I'm addition for his call on a War against All Muslims, which is completely correct and justified, he is rightly calling on us to ware the clear and present danger that Black Osama poses against America. He recently called Black Osama's philosophy "Afro-Leninism." This seems about right. Although that might go over the heads of Real Heartland Americans like me. I personally prefer to call Black Osama a "Latte Nigger." Keep on keepin' on, fellow Hillary supporters!

Never,Never,Never

Obama is never going to get the White Middle Class vote. We are too smart for that disaster. You see we remember W. Bush talking about change in 2000 and he has just about destroyed this country. Obama is just like him all talk and no substance.

THe Premise of this Article is Completely False

With Drudge and Rush telling every Republican to vote for Hillary to keep things screwed up, the numbers are seriously skewed.

In Pennsylvania, Democrats got 2,306,664 votes, McCain got 587,210, just over 39.2% of what the combined Dems did. In addition, Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee got 219,913, so things are a little scary in Republican-land.

I’ll bet anything that McCain does better than 600,000 votes in Pennsylvania in the general election and a lot of the extra votes will come from Republicans who voted for Hillary in the primary. Why on earth would the Republicans vote for and have so many wonderful things to say about Hillary, including Rupert Murdoch and Richard Mellon Scaife, certainly two charter members in the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy?

First off, which two of the three Senators running for President voted to give Smirky a blank check to invade and occupy Iraq? Hint, it wasn’t Obama. Also, I’m sure these guys are just waiting to pull out all the dredge that made Clinton I so unbearable to the entire country. How fast can you say Ward Hubble and the Rose Lawfirm Billing Records? Can you imagine the national titillation if Bill Clinton’s sex tapes with Monica Lewinsky ever came out? We’ve seen what these guys have done in the last eight years, why not pull out all the stops. They have everything to lose if a Democrat gets back into the White House. They have created a modern dictatorship with the signing statements and the rubber stamp congress (both Republicans and Democrats). Also, if a real Justice Department ever takes over, hundreds or thousands of people will most certainly be going to jail, starting with Karl Rove.

For me the three most important votes of the last 45 years, a litmus test, if you will are 1) the Tonkin Gulf Resolution, 2) the votes to impeach or convict Bill Clinton for being a sexual omnivore and then lying about it and 3) the vote to give Bush a green light to invade Iraq. I held my nose and voted for Kerry. I don’t want to have to vote for another person who voted for it and has never groveled and asked forgiveness for such an appallingly stupid move, as John Edwards, who also voted in favor, has done.

Also, in Hillary’s 35 years of service, for 6 of those years she sat on the board of one of the most anti-union companies in the history of the world, WalMart. Did she fight their woeful practice and do it completely ineffectively, or did she just go along and get along? Whichever it was, as a union member for much of my life, I find it horrendous when union leaders support her.

Obama was not my first choice, but he is so superior to the other two that he has my fervant support, whether or not he captures the poor white votes, many of whom are Republicans sent by Limbaugh to try to destroy the Democratic party by voting for Hillary.
