Obama Supporters - Question Authority
Salon became relevant during the hey day of the Clinton impeachment trials from Bills dalliance with Monica Lewinsky. While the MSM was having field days with the sex scandal, Salon was one of the few e-magazines to repudiate the GOP hypocrisy, as when they outed Henry Hyde and other GOP philanderers who were the prime movers and shakers in getting Clinton out of office. Character was always an issue that the GOP hung their hats on. People like Sydney Blumenthal and Joe Conason dug into the history of the Clintons in Arkansas and provided a counter narrative to how the GOP was continuing Clinton fatigue to overtake the media.
Salon was built on the foundation of that counter narrative, and so the faithfuls like Joe Conason and Joan Walsh find it unimaginable to be even slightly disloyal to their makers.
Loyalty is a very fascist concept, because it prevents us from speaking out and question authority. It prevents us from coming out of our haze of denial about the Clinton lies and hypocrisies. This is not what democracy is all about. Democracy must question all authority and make them accountable for the trust we bestow on them. Free speech and a free press are the cornerstones of all Democracies. It is unfortunate that Salon is speaking more as a mouthpiece for the Clintons than acting as a free press.
High marks must go to people like Robert Reich, Bill Richardson, Marian and Peter Edelman, and most other former Clinton loyalists who have come out against the Clinton tactics and have endorsed Obama. Maybe Salon could shake off the chains of loyalty and do the right thing.

I will not support Hillary Clinton for president - Molly Ivins - January 20, 2006
I will not support Hillary Clinton for president - Molly Ivins
January 20, 2006
AUSTIN, Texas --- I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.
Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges.

So when Hillary invoked Anne Richards in her Texas debate and Richards' children called on her bluff, here is the proof that Richards would never have supported Hillary's bid for the White House. Molly Ivins and Anne Richards were joined at the hip, two stalwart women from Texas who fought patriarchy and sexism till the day they died.

The response is mostly ridiculous but funny...
The same dozen or so hardcore Obama supporters spamming the latest or old spin over and over again. Well, at least they are energetic.

I Do Know You, Rufus, and I'm Glad I Do
When I was saying to Baloo that we need to keep the discourse sane and whatever else it was I said, I was referring to the general conversation (especially here on Salon, where once upon a time that was the rule rather than the exception); in the case of the paid propagandists, however, I couldn't agree with you more, and you are one of the footsoldiers of Operation Shut the Hell Up. More power to you! The lying, rich-ass, say-for-pay propagandists who start the crazy bullshit rolling on a daily basis deserve to be taken down by any means necessary. I'm not sure I see Limbaugh/Hannity/Savage/Beck/ Etc. as human, even, let alone as serving a useful purpose in the scheme of things. Pull the plug! Hell, I'm still trying to get used to the almost human face of Pat Buchannan, as he slowly drifts toward the center of things. It's hard to see a genuine one-time bully (from my childhood and wild youth) act nearly human. I still don't trust him, because he helped create the whole "bully" paradigm for me in real life back in the day, in DC, back before he was anybody other than an upper middle class punk.
No, these characters do have to pay it all back, and I believe they will. If you and those like you can help bring that about sooner than later, then you will have earned your place in the pantheon of heroic activists. Those guys (oh, and Ann Coulter -- almost forgot what may be the most evil of all of them, and I sure don't want to make it a Boy's Club; that would be so wrong) don't deserve any sympathy and the sooner they start whining for it the better a place the world will be.
I am with you on unplugging the hate machine any time, any where, any way. I'm not surprised your actions don't always match up with your knowlege of K's wisdom: it's easier by far to know it than it is to work it into one's life; it's also not easy to stand by those teachings when you've been beaten to the ground by idiots, "Pecked to Death by Ducks", for years and years. No need to apologize for the disparity. It's human.
I do know you, and I feel you. Hang in there, stay strong, and say and do what you find effective and necessary. I know where you're heart's at, and that's what matters.
Peace on you. Just keep on being you.
