Surely that's a mistake. The antiChrist is left handed, everyone knows that.
"Lori Moschella-Keller, a nurse's assistant, is a registered Democrat who plans to vote for Clinton. Part of the reason: "I have a real problem with Obama saying on the news that his country is so important to him, but he can't put his hand on his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance."
Seriously, what hope does our democracy ever have if people can
a) believe such baloney
b) make it their primary rationale when deciding who to vote for.
Oh well. I still have hope. And I'm still voting for Obama.
Can you keep your hand over your heart while you have your head up your ass?
And I leave 2 words out as well.
I guess I'll never be president.(sniffle)
As an ex-Altoid of nearly 20 years in residence, I was feeling pretty good, and pretty amazed, at the attitudes expressed in the article. Then I got to Lori's comments - oh well, change comes slowly.
Tom Russo - if you're reading this by any chance, take it from an old colleague who enjoyed serving on the faculty with you - go to Obama's web site and check out his policies!
I've been Ayn Randed, nearly branded
Communist 'cos I'm lefthanded:
That's the hand they use, well, never mind!
Just saying, again. This thing is over in two weeks.
He looks okay. The positions of his body and his head are good. But I saw the video, and he did not follow through at all. His hand stayed right in that spot after he released the ball. More like a dart-thrower than a bowler.
Still, I might vote for him. And I definitely will run for President, because it would be wonderful to have a couple of bowling lanes right in my own house, in the White House.
Timbuktom will not bomb! Vote for Timbuk - Never upchuck! 2012! Nothing rhymes!
Isn't this the second story by Walter Shapiro on the awesome majesty of Obama bowling poorly? Maybe Walter should compose a few love sonnets or sing a couple of love ballads.
I am in awe of the riveting yet balanced political coverage by Salon.
and during a primary campaign, when you get to press the flesh with a small subset of the voting population, that goes a long way. I'm not surprised that PA is getting closer.
I do not think that an Obama win in PA will cause Clinton to drop out, though. This is her one and only chance to be president, and she will keep trying until he is introduced as the candidate at the convention.
Can reporters please stop repeating the "didn't have his hand over his heart during the pledge" garbage? You are reporters- you should know that it was during the Star Spangled Banner- and it is not the custom to do the hand over the heart for that.
You guys are pros- when you repeat falsehoods without comment, it looks like you are doing it on purpose.
I lost my harmonica, Albert...
If I looked half as good failing at bowling, I'd be City Council President by now.
"Spare votes"? Gag me. Obama will take PA with 58% of the vote.
...Jeremiah Wright?
While it's still a pretty big draw to people here in southeastern Wisconsin where there's still quite a few die-hards playing leagues 3 to 4 nites per week, the game seems almost forgotten in many areas throughout the country. While the mechanics of it are nowhere near as tough to pick up and refine compared to learning how to play golf or tennis, it's extremely tough for somebody who's well over 6 feet tall with long arms and legs to pick up a Brunswick after a 20 year hiatus and start racking up strikes in consecutive frames. Not that I'd ever want to be accused of "height discrimination", but Obama will just never have a low enough center of gravity to wing it at any bowling alley. With his long arms and legs, he'd be a better bet playing "Cricket" or "301" at the dart machines or shooting a few games of pool in the game room on the other end of the bowling alley.
But I give him credit for going out there and doing it while he knew full well the event would be mocked, lampooned and dissected to death by pundits and talk show hosts who probably coudn't bowl a spare much less a strike themselves. I kind of respect the fact that he's not afraid to participate in something that doesn't just come naturally to him in an age when so many of these photo-ops are obsessively micro-managed to the point where all authenticity is largely eradicated from the moment. After having to put up with almost 8 years of nothing but staged and pre-scripted hash publicity stunts from Bush in the never-ending attempt to portray himself as Steve Mcqueen, John Wayne, and the second coming of Jesus all rolled into one, I like Obama even more now than before bowling a 37. As long as Dukakis doesn't stop by in the tank to offer him a ride to the bowling alley, I'm fine with Obama even going back to finish the last few frames.
Heck if he can just pick up a strike and even one spare, his final score would at least beat Bush's IQ.
I like it that Obama bowled -- and that he kept bowling even after it must've been obvious he wasn't going to be a "natural." I admire anyone that comfortable and confident in himself.
And I never bowl. Can't stand the freaking game.
i kept sayin gto myself "Gotta beat Obama....gotta beat Obama..."
and I did. Woot.
Where a particular litany of issues relating to Obama is mandatory in every single article: bowling, Rev. Wright, Pledge of Allegiance, etc.? I'm sorry, Walter, but you missed "Hussein", didn't you?
I don't see the Keating Five allegations mentioned everytime there's an article about McCain. I won't even start with Hillary.
...as long as we don't have to end with Hillary.
