Where do all those little-guy donations go? Ask top strategist Mark Penn, as he exits with millions in consulting fees.

  • @Not: Ability to Govern

Sounds like McCain or Nader can best answer that question.

Not entirely clear what you point is, but I would mention that while I think Hillary has overpaid for Penn, she loaned $5M of her own money to her campaign.

Meanwhile, when McCain was broke, he borrowed $3M collaterialized with public funds, despite his large fortune. I understand Lobbyists are working for free on his campaign. What's the quid pro quo there?

I'd rather take Hillary, despite Mark Penn, over McCain.

  • political donations-wahoo someone is brave enough to talk about it...

Actions speak louder than words. Is this really what we want in the White House? Clinton - Corruption is thy name!

  • Lying or greedy?

If I were a zillionaire like Clinton and people were skipping meals and medications to help fund my campaign, I'd be mighty embarrassed about it, to the point where I'd hide it, not flaunt it.

So I'm thinking, either those millions of dollars coming from the pitiful impoverished is a lie, or Hillary Clinton is shockingly cold-hearted to take their money instead of spending her own.

Color me unimpressed by either scenario.

  • *ahem*

Like Mark Penn, I've also been working my butt off to make sure that Obama beats Hillary in the primary. Where's my big-ass check?

  • It's 3am and I can't fall asleep!

No wonder HIlary is up at 3am, worrying about how much money she has wasted. If this is how she will run the country, we really have something to worry about if she becomes the President.

  • Clinton's dark strategy

Clinton must know that her chances are shot to

hell now, especially with the Mark Penn sleaze; she'll be banking on winning PENNsylvania - probably only

by a narrow margin at this stage. That'll be the

moment she cashes in her chips - with ostensible

magnanimity but with her beady reptilian eye on 2012

(when they'll likely wait to assassinate Obama,

after he's worn himself out setting the economy and

the USA's international reputation somehow vaguely

    back on track).

Call me cynical, but that's what's in the tea-leaves.

  • Bill Clinton's Ties To Colombia Trade Deal Stronger Than Even Penn's

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/08/bill-clintons-ties-to-col_n_95651.html

On Sunday evening, Sen. Hillary Clinton's chief campaign strategist, Mark Penn, resigned from his post after it was revealed he was working (on the side) for the passage of a Colombia Free Trade Agreement that his candidate opposed.

But within the Clinton campaign, Penn is not the highest-ranking adviser with financial ties to groups and individuals supporting the passage of the measure.

Former President Bill Clinton has earned hundreds of thousands of dollars speaking on behalf of a Colombia-based group pushing the trade pact, and representatives of that organization tell The Huffington Post that the former president shared their sentiment.

  • it's nice to know the online publications are as useless as the ones that tear down all those trees..

Silly me. I thought I was reading Salon.com, but it turns out i'm really reading Political Consumer Reports.com. It isn't bad enough that candidates are marketed, positioned and branded...now salon has to waste its time and mine "reporting" on how they waste their money on advertising. frankly, i like "karen" (i hope i got the name right). i don't know whether you can fault Hillary on the issues, or Obama or McCain for that matter. I don't know because no one is reporting on the issues. Instead they're doing their little insider stories about money spent and consultants hired and fired and whether or not the media is doing a good job reporting this campaign. the ultimate insult to readers: the media is now gazing upon itself. what wonders to behold. not much to say about Diebold (except they may be related to some consultants - so now we can get family trees with our reporting). not much to say about any issues of any substance...the only sensible article in this whole publication is by sean Wilentz. At least he's looking at an important issue - how the democrats are choosing their candidate -- and the implications and potential impact of that selection process. instead of reporting about campaign finance reform, let's report about consultants. brilliant. maybe mike madden should hire out as a consultant. he's probably make a lot more money and he'd be just as helpful to the process.

  • Get over the Campaign Costs !!!

My $100 bucks already given does NOT entitle me to a say in the day-to-day campaign operation... NOR does my next $10,000.

2007 US gross domestic product (GDP) was estimated as $13.8 trillion. As of June 2007, the gross U.S. external debt was $12 trillion, US Federal budget FY 2008 - $2.90 trillion. US spent on advertising reached $155 billion in 2006.

We are choosing someone to run the US franchise for the next four years.... it is expected that 800 million will be spent choosing. This nearly billion dollars is a "staggering percentage":

    0.00580% of US GDP

    0.00667% of US foreign debt

    0.02759% of US Federal Budget

    0.51613% of US Advertising

A Wall Street Hostile-Takeover experts would love to gain control over our public assets for those mere pittances... Oh Yes, they did that in 2000 & 2004.... and our Social Security Trust will be run dry paying for the last 8 years.

Whomever spends wisely, NOT MISERLY, will win.... And that what we need is a President who makes good choices and spends wisely...

Ralph Nader will run a very spartan campaign... but you'd get a "Hoover-like" economy...

  • Hillary pays her staff top dallars but doesn't pay her bills owed to universities

Hillary seems to be able to pay her staff but not her bills. UC Davis is giving the Hillary campaign one month to pay her bills.

UC Davis spokesman Mitchel Benson said they've contacted the Clinton campaign three times seeking payment. If the money doesn't show up within the next month, "it will go to a collection agency," Benson said.

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/04/06/BAAU1006M1.DTL

UC Santa Barbara is owed $11,112, UC Davis is owed $5,486, Cal State Northridge in L.A. County is waiting for $13,611, and San Diego State, $10,000 - all for the use of halls for Clinton rallies.

A very sad state for the Hillary campaign

  • Cashing in on the Clinton campaign

I am always amused how all negative stories about campaigns are that of Hillary Clinton. We take Obama's word for what he pays his chair and co-chair and his campaign manager. I doubt Tom Daschle would leave his job for a small fee. That needs to be scrutinized to the same degree the Clinton campaign has.

The double standard and negative stories about Hillary Clinton have cast doubt on her campaign and has diminished her chances to get the nomination. I hope the good people of PA come out for her, and Puerto rico. Rich in delegates Latinos are Hillary's core voters. Puerto rico has 55 delegates which I pray are hers as a reward for having to deal with everything Obama gets away with. I hope we can see equal respect for the female candidate and start holding the black candidate accountable. Why have we avoided holding Obama's feet to the fire? Is it race? We have all but fried the female, and bias is unacceptable. Hillary can pay whatever she wishes to whomever she wishes.
