The Penn is truly mightier....
...a mighty swine he truly is, cos being a greasey pig is his full time biz.
-
Penn's still there so article is pointless .. great work!
After yesterday's travesty with the Wilentz "column" now your main feature is a "story" about Penn's leaving - while every other media outlet is reporting he didn't really leave. Another embarrassment for Salon as it continues its downhill slide under Joan Walsh.

There Is Probably a Very Good Reason She Is Keeping Him On...
Mark Penn has known the Clinton's for ten years I believe. I'm sure he REALLY knows the Clinton's...(feel my elbow in your ribs??)
That is why he was not fired. (Me thinks).
There are books to be written, stories to tell. More!! money to be made!
Stop the planet! I want to get off!!!

This speaks to...
...this speaks to Hillary Clinton's ineffectiveness as a candidate and why her candidacy is doomed. I remember her husband's trouble finding an attorney general--which Hillary spearheaded. Ms. Clinton has no clue how to manage--management his the hallmark of an effective executive.
Karenn22 mentiioned you can't fault Hillary on policy (although I would fault her on flag burning) but let's use the Clinton Campaign's own logice regarding effective politics: The Voting Rights Act--sure, they tell us, MLK haad the dream, but it took LBJ to get it done. Sure, Hillary has the dream of healthcare (apparently the only thing her advocates can say positive about their candidate) but it requires an effective politician to get it into law--that hardly describes Ms. Clinton. She loses money like a sieve, has to switch staffers because she has terrible judgment, has no clue how to implement an effective strategy that would transfer an advantage in October into a nomination in June, she has trouble with details, misspeaks (see lies) about accomplishments and whatnot because she feels a compulsion to. Woe is the country if she ever has the presidency.
Barack Obama, conversely, has demonstrated that he possesses the qualities that make for an effective executive. Penn is just another example of Hillary Clinton's poor judgment. We cannot afford another such president.

UMMM... MARK PENN STILL WORKS FOR CLINTON
This whole article, while informative, is pretty misleading.
Mark Penn has not gone anywhere. He has not exited the campaign nor been fired. In a PR move, he simply resigned as chief strategist. He'll still be polling for and advising the campaign at high levels. In other words, he'll still be getting paid. And if you think that Hillary would completely cut ties to the person who produced that noxious 3AM ad, I've got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

Lipstick on a pig
I'm with the other posters. Incompetence and corruption, by any other name, are still incompetence and corruption.
Trying to attack David Axelrod or David Plouffe has nothing to do with the issue at hand. They didn't go to Colombia and try glad-handing the government. They also seem to be worth the money Obama is paying them unlike Clinton's team.
Every time someone in the Hillary campaign makes a mistake her supporters try to defend them. That's a mistake. It just guarantees a continuation of this inept, failing campaign that she is running. It's fine to be a fighter but you've got to be smart, too. Until you learn this you're always going to lose to the Obama team.

Obama's Campaign Staff
Though they may not come cheap, they're a bargain compared to Clinton's staff. To me, the most glaring difference is in their respective communications advisers. Obama's Gibbs makes under $150,000/year. Clinton's Wolfson makes over $250,000/MONTH.
Who would YOU trust with the nation's purse strings???

thanks for pointing out the obvious
This was all pretty obvious a couple of months ago. Right around the time that the Clintons loaned themselves money to continue to pay this clown. When this is over, I expect someone
to write a book titled Pigs At The Trough: How Poor, Underinsured and Needy Americans Were Once Again Fooled Into Making Scammers Rich

I'm a Clinton donor....
...which will come as no surprise to anyone who has read any of my posts to Salon this past year.
I gave the money with the assumption that I would have NO control or say on how the money was spent. I knew that it would include everything from high priced consultants to high priced hair cuts (and by the way, I just love Hillary's hair -- I think she spent the money well in that regard). I knew some of the money would be wasted -- it's a wild and crazy presidential campaign, no one is pinching pennies and these people like staying at the Four Seasons rather than Motel 6 -- I accept that.
I knew that my candiate might lose, so that my gamble could be a complete waste of money other than the enjoyment I received at feeling like I did something more than just spout empty platitudes in Salon posts.
And, at the end of the day, I can well afford to lose the entire contribution and not think about it again.
Anyone who can't make all of the above statements with respect to a presidential campaign contribution has NO business making one. So please don't try to get me to pity the small donor...

Old Boys
Hilary keep running on the "gender" issue she has surrounded herself with the "old boys club" advisers.
-
same whorehouse, different room
Penn's dipping in a new inkwell down the hall. His advice has been perfect: wrong every time. You go, Mark. Or, rather, stay. Sit. Roll over. Play dead. Good doggie. The dead part won't be playing shortly when billary goes belly up.
-
Yeah, that money should have gone to big media for ads!
If it wasn't for all that money, Hillary wouldn't be the front runner.
How much do you suppose he would be getting from Obama's campaign?

The Real Story
"As for Penn himself, he isn't even really departing. He may be out as chief strategist, but reportedly he'll keep providing polls and advice to Clinton.
For a fee, of course."
The fact that Penn has clients that present conflicts of interest remains the same regardless of the well publicized non-fact that Penn has quit Hillary or was fired is the real story. Its all for appearance, and tells the American people that the Clinton campaign believes we are a collective population of idiots.

Campaign Spending as a Measure of their Ability to Govern.
As the CEO of their campaign, a candidate can choose to spend, overspend, or squander, however they see fit.
But when they do, ask yourself; If they win, what are they going to do with my money?
Sounds like McCain or Nader can best answer that question.
