Time may be on Clinton's side
As time goes on, more and more questionable aspects of Obama's candidacy are coming to light. The Rezko trial is underway and the latest reports are that Obama is far, far more implicated in Dirty Politics Chicago Style than has been heretofore disclosed. Perhaps the Clinton campaign is banking on such disclosures continuing to come forth. Not that the MSM will be any rush to publicize the latter, but the Internet is already buzzing with reports from the Rezko trial which put Obama in an extremely unflattering light. And perhaps Clinton is hoping for a miracle: unbiased coverage of both Democratic candidates, the lack of which has not exactly gone unnoticed by the American public.
At any rate, the Democrats are in the unenviable position of being saddled with a deeply flawed, slightly frontrunning candidate who almost certainly cannot win the general election, assuming he wins the nomination. Yes, Groundhog Day is here, folks, and Punxatawney Phil likely won't re-emerge until McCain wins in November. Congratulations on another self-imposed Democratic train wreck.

Hillary's swan song
will be PA. The good people in PA will decide to run out hillary once and for all. Obama has already narrowed the gap. This weekend of hillary whoppers and Penn Columbia connections will drive the last nail in hillary's coffin. May we bury both the Clintons from politics and forever. Let them enjoy their windfall gains for the rest of their sleazy lives.

Fads Fade
Obama is an empty suit, a fad for teenyboppers and easily impressed and overly emotional college kids. The longer a fad like BO hangs around, the more it bores.
Democrats better hope Shapiro is right and it proves impossible for BO to end this race before it becomes painfully obvious to everyone that the vacuous BO and the "God Damn America" preacher he rode in on are sure losers in a general election.
Fifty-six percent of NC Hillary Clinton supporters said they will not vote for BO in a general election. Twenty-eight percent at large said the same. BO can't win.

Howard Dean is a Failure
Dean and the party establishment should have run Obama out of the race months ago, forseeing that a weak candidate can easily become competitive if he can draw all of the African-American support and win some caucuses in red states Democrats can never win. Such a weak candidate can weaken a strong one throughout the primary, but it won't change the fact that only the strong one can compete come November.
If Obama is nominated, Obama will lose to McCain. If Clinton is nominated, Clinton will likely beat McCain. There are too many people like myself for whom BO is simply not an option, and who will vote only for Clinton or McCain.

Impossible For Clinton To Win?
I say ...not.
For one thing, Hillary Clinton is behind by about 130 delegates (+/-). In 1980 Ted Kennedy was behind by about 500 delegates at this time in the race; and in 1984, Gary Hart was behind by 1,000+ delegates at this time in the race.
What is the matter with you -- and every other intelligent "journalist" (a term I use loosely these days), and particularly those in the rabid blogosphere?
The whole "This is hurting the Democratic Party, blah, blah, blah" smacks of good old fashioned FEAR - but not of losing in November. I can't quite put my finger on it yet, but it seems to have more to do with your chosen candidate than what might happen in November. (And as you point out, Democratic voter registrations are up all over the country). What you fail to mention is that both candidates are holding their own in GE matchups, although Clinton IS doing much better than Obama in PA, OH and FL - all states that Dems will need to take the WH.
If you weren't so invested in Obama - and hadn't backed this horse before you knew more about him - this FEAR might not be so palpable.
But it is. And it has a strong, bad smell.

Mark Penn
Mark Penn is gone, it won't be long before Hillary throws in the towel too.

Reality
So far, the pro-Clinton comments on this board seem, like Clinton's campaign itself, to partake of an alternate reality. There is no way she can win, and if she did it would be a shame. Obama certainly isn't perfect--who is?--but overall he seems like a fine man with a great deal of substance and a set of personal qualities that would serve this country, and the world, very well in the White House. He has an expansively open mind in thinking about the world; a strong intellect and calm demeanor in assessing situations; a useful set of experiences as a community organizer, elected official at two levels, and citizen of the world; and a streak of integrity that, while not pristine, strikes me as much stronger than that of the average joe, and a quantum leap beyond that of Clinton. It's a shame that Clinton is drawing this out in a slimy manner, thus damaging the party's chances and her own prospects for playing a positive political role in the future. Huckabee drew it out, too, but in a much more constructive manner. Who would've thought I'd be more impressed with his campaign (though certainly not his positions) than with Clinton's? A sad thing indeed.

Whether the end is in PA, tommorow, or today, the end for Clinton is not far away.

Now Mr. Shapiro, Please Share The Weather Report With Your Boss in the Windowless Office, Joan Walsh...
because she too, is in a state of suspended animation. As her blog posts make quite evident, she still thinks that Hillary is trustworthy (despite her tendency to "misremember), and a feminist symbol who deserves to be nominated because she's the victim of more sexism than Obama is racism, and is getting a harder deal from the media than Obama -- in her opinion, of course.
It's not only "Hillary Clinton desperately praying for the political winds to propel her out of the doldrums..." -- it's your head-in-the-sand boss lady.
Yes, you're correct -- "the weather reports are all Obama." Thankfully, for this long-time Obama supporter.
Now will you or someone from Salon please go down to the windowless bunker where Joan seems to reside, and share your weather report with her, please.
