The former POW's Senate career has been marked by his outspoken determination never to repeat Vietnam mistakes. So why does he support the Iraq war?

  • McCain's speech is meaningless

That's rubbish. One hates war (Vietnam) but fights another war (Iraq) to prevent a 'wider war.' Who believes who? Don't be a hypocrit. Tell the truth! This is the worst speech by a prospective US President.

As a Pol Sci Prof. I am ashamed of Sen McCain.

  • @ NRALIFER

    Mc Cain's Vietnam Obsession

I feel that there is need for us to be in Iraq. With Iran spouting off about nuclear weapons and constantly saying they want Israel destroyed I can see a disaster in the making. If Israel is pushed to the wall it will only be a matter of time until you see a mushroom cloud in the area.

I have always thought that if a nuclear war ever started it would be in that region.

Actually, the spouting off about Iran's nuclear intentions is coming from the neocons in power here who want another war in which they and theirs won't be fighting...and dying.

PS I happened to catch your comment in the thread on the new film 21 (thread now closed, thus this) in which you mentioned having been an AC casino Security Director, and I have to agree with you on the "bring a lot of money" and "card counting is not as easy as it looks" (it's easier: the math is a joke, but the concentration takes some practice). Ironically enough, the Suncoast here in Vegas banned me from their BJ tables 6+ years ago when I wasn't even counting...and I was losing (but varying my bets very roughly -- not actually keeping a count -- in accord with what I thought was left of the 2 decks)! So the next day, I went to the Gold Coast, a sister property, and won back the money I'd lost, and then some, by counting.

  • Living in the Present

You sit right there sonny and let granddad tell ya what it was like in them thar olden days. Yup, us kids, we never got nothin handed to us. No siree. In fact, Paw was always at the Pentagon and Maw, well, she would always stay late at the country club. You see, she and the tennis pro were … but that’s another story.

What you came to hear was intractable views on war as seen through the myopic lenses of a 72 year old Vietnam Era Fighter Pilot, POW and Genuiiine War Hero. War Is hell and I love, no, no, I hate the smell of Napalm in the morning. When you’re sittin in the cockpit of an A-4E Skyhawk at 40,000 feet, things can get pretty dicey let me tell you, especially when blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

This is the 21st century not the middle of the 20th.

The Vietnam conflict ended 33 years ago … It’s time to move on old timer.

  • But after the Initial Dumb decision?

After we made serious miscalculations about Vnam, lack of all the things the Powell Doctrine(sic) states, can we salvage the resulting mess? And how do we do that? That is what McCain hasn't told us except it may take 100 years.
