" He set about learning the lessons of the conflict in Southeast Asia soon after he got back to the United States."
John McCain knows less about the Vietnam War than most of us Americans who lived through it, not just the people who went there and fought, but also those of us who lived through it here at home.
For crying out loud, McCain was in prison in North Vietnam. He never saw how that war ripped the USA apart, back in the USA. And, he never saw the futile jungle-rot futility of our ground war against the Vietcong and the North Vietnamese. He was in prison., not sinking and taking fire in the swamps of Vietnam.
McCain had a great chance to be a good commander, and pull his guys, our guys, out of the irrelevant Iraq meatgrinder. He could have come out against Iraq, and EVERYBODY would have voted for him.
But he did not, because he does not have much real Vietnam wisdom, does not have a realistic idea about being a good commander, actually does not care about American troops, apparently.
McCain is nuts in a murderous way. Ten years ago, he might have been okay, maybe rational, but now he is evil. A good commander would save our Americans from their shameful mission in Iraq, would save their precious lives for a good cause. That is not John McCain.
