Letters to the Editor

This letter is associated with the following article:
The former POW's Senate career has been marked by his outspoken determination never to repeat Vietnam mistakes. So why does he support the Iraq war?
  • Presidential material?

Here are some very reasonable questions itemized in the article that should be answered before we go into any war:

" Is there a vital national security interest at stake?

Is there a clear and attainable goal?

    Have nonviolent efforts been exhausted?

Is there a viable exit strategy?

Do the American people support the action?

Is there broad international support? "

Can you even remotely suggest that Sen. McCain thoughtfully addressed these questions before we invaded Iraq? Heavens no.

Would he consider these questions if we were confronted with a decision to invade another "evil" country? Who knows. This gentleman's actions range from marginally reasonable to confused and counter productive. He is one unpredictable statesman. Thank god he's not running for president or we could be in real trouble....Oops! Really?
