The former POW's Senate career has been marked by his outspoken determination never to repeat Vietnam mistakes. So why does he support the Iraq war?
  • President-elect Eisenhower

When Eisenhower got elected. he promptly went to Korea and put a stop to the fighting. It was generally thought that Communism was a cancer taking over the world. I well remember the growing blobs of red on global maps.

However, Eisenhower had the wisdom to say, "No land wars in Asia." Then having no active war on his hands he had saved enough to build the Interstate highway system.

Eisenhower was followed by John F Kennedy who made the mistake of sending troops to Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson blew this way out of reason.

Later, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. The first President Bush made the mistake of cutting this too short and not finishing the job when we had worldwide support.

President Clinton had poor intelligence gathering but Bush # 2 used it to go it alone (except for the UK) to go after Iraq. Sen McCain intends to continue this. Both Democrats want out.

Presumably, Hillary would just bail out but Obama seems to be capable of negotiating a real end to the hostilities. In the Mid East, a white woman has the cards stacked against her. Unfair, but that's the way of the Muslim world. Hillary polls better in England but Iran is where the danger is located.
