Letters to the Editor

You too, dataguyx & KateTex
Take the test I mentioned and let us know your results. No excuses, now :-).

The problem lies at the top of page two
The first letter on the second page. Read it.
An Open Letter To Those Who Need To Hear It:
Read that letter. The attitude expressed is what is wrong with the left, the Democratic party, far too many so-called "liberals", and a good chunk of alleged progressives, and may well be what costs Obama the general.
It is why a good chunk of America hates your guts. It is why Limbaugh and Michael Savage have such huge audiences. It is "What's the matter with Kansas?" It is why the Republicans have been able to make "liberal" the premier political epithet of our age.
I work in a university, in a technical field, not an academic. There are a thousand little shitbirds who float through here every year with exactly the same type of smug, dismissive attitude displayed in that letter. Some of my co-workers fit that demographic exactly - you might be able to substitute the exact religion - and they hate your fucking guts. Because you are an asshole. Because you look down your nose at them and their Yuengling drinking ways. (BTW, it's WAY better than Bud.) And they know it. And they hate you right back.
They might go bowling. Because they actually like bowling. Or maybe their friends bowl, and it's something to do and a chance to get out of the house on a Wednesday night. Not because, you know, it's like so cute and so retro and you thought it would be cool to go slumming in what you regard as an inferior culture by actually going BOWLING.
You are looking down your nose at them, and they are looking right back at you -- through an upraised middle finger.
You lost this election 20 years ago, you stupid fucks, by being a bunch of smug, know-it-all pricks. I hate you too.

hate to tell you this, red_gti2000
but any test that puts me in the same company as gandhi, mandela and the dalai lama is full of shit (and i don't even like those guys - too full of themselves - think obama is arrogant?) Oh yes, here are the numbers, red,
Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.85 -
red
neat test!
I loved it. I am now a confirmed left leaning libertarian...
Its pretty damned accurate!
-2.62 Economic Left/Right
-4.26 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian
(maybe it was my answers about the marijuana thingie...) LOL
I wish we had a dinky government whose only real job it was, was to guarantee cradle to grave health care, eduction through university bachelors level and a strong national defense.
But i think we're too far removed from it - it will never happen. And i'm not sure people can be trusted all the time to do what's right when GREED gets in the way. So i'm on the DEM wagon - hoping for health care reform and maybe even some educational changes. Something we'll never see from the Republicans.

I'm the Dalai Lama
In case anyone cares: I'm spot on where the Dalai Lama is, in the company of Gandhi and Mandela. Apparently, I should be voting for Nader (not on your life).
Econ left/right: -5.62
Social lib/authoritarian: -4.77
Thanks for the fun diversion from writing about local governance regimes.

@david s
True, true. Very interesting, though. I think that, since we are taking the same test, the built-in biases of the test are canceled out, giving a generally accurate view of our _relative_ positions vis-a-vis each other.
Which tells me that -- compared to me -- you're a DAMNED LEFTY!!!
Just kidding ;-)
-
Fester is in the "Ghandi" quadrant
Economic Left/Right: -3.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.46
I would also like to note that the survey has no option for "neutral", and that as always, a bunch of the questions were contrived. Not much attention was given to national sovreignty either, much more to matters of races and corporations.

@ red, et. al.
Economic: -7.12
Social: -7.13
Fwiw.

Republican parrot
"a huge gathering at Penn State University Sunday, the only one of its kind planned for the bus trip, drew an estimated 22,000 "screaming liberal sycophants," as one prominent Republican has dubbed Obama crowds."
Do you repeat these kind of unfair stereotypes (screaming liberal sycophants) in order to highlight the inanity of those commenters who try to belittle the people that are inspired to attend Obama rallies, or is this your backhanded way of implying something without having to use your own words? I think you should be more honest, drop the snark and try to be objective.
I also find it interesting that the media has latched onto the "Obama is bad at bowling" meme. The title of the article gets your message across - bowling is a sport associated with working-class whites - and Obama's lack of skill at it implies him being out of touch with that class of people. Have you considered his skill at another sport, Basketball? I'm sure he could beat you or me in it, but to tout his skills at this sport wouldn't fit in with your image of an effete liberal.

i don't know, red, i had a sort of negative impression of you
(are you a hillary supporter? that would explain it) but your post to me was disarmingly kind - so i like you. maybe i'm being overly influenced by my position on the chart!
-
Aaaaaargh.....
YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF LEFTIES!!!!
What am I doing here!!! I must be nutz!!!!
lol. ;-)
P.S. Thanks for making your results public. Maybe this will help us understand where everyone's coming from and we can have less heated conversations going forward :-).
Cheers...

Obama Is Nothing More Than a Socialist Demagogue. Of course, Hillary is too.
The core theme of Obamanomics is economic class warfare that is designed to soak the "rich" for the benefit of everyone else. In Obamaworld, the solution to every problem is a government program paid for by higher taxes on "rich" people who have unfairly accumulated their wealth at the expense of "poor" and "middle class" Americans.
Obama wants us to believe that these "rich" people have been getting unfair tax breaks at the expense of the "middle class" even though the top 25% of American wage earners have seen their share of total Federal personal income taxes INCREASE from 84% in 2000 to 86% after the Bush tax cuts.
Despite this already unfair reality, Obama wants to raise taxes on these "rich" people to pay for healthcare, education and hand outs for the "poor", tax cuts for the overburdened "middle class", balancing the federal budget, green energy initiatives, fixing "global warming", fixing the social security/Medicare mess, and full government benefits for the 20 million illegal aliens that he wants to make citizens and grateful voters that will insure democrat socialist government for generations.
Not only is this scheme unfair and financially impossible, it is nothing more than an unAmerican wealth redistribution scheme that is designed to get Obama votes at the expense of America's most educated and productive workers.
Vladimir Lenin pursued this exact same power accumulation scam a century ago in Russia and that is why Russian GDP is less than 10% of the USA's today. The Euros have tried it too, and that is why GDP per capita is 54% higher in the USA than in the European Union.
The proven fact is that socialism strangles innovation, productivity, economic progress and the human spirit to the great detriment of society, and yet this disastrous economic approach is Obama's vision for America. 12 generations of Americans have understood that free enterprise capitalism that rewards education, innovation and productivity is the engine of American prosperity. Will this generation be the first to embrace the false Siren's call of destructive socialism?
