On a bus tour through Pennsylvania, Obama tries to impress blue-collar white voters. He'll need them to keep the state close in April -- or to win it in November.

  • Democrats lining up to endorse Obama

    From today's Wall Street Journal:

"WASHINGTON -- Slowly but steadily, a string of Democratic Party figures is taking Barack Obama's side in the presidential nominating race and raising the pressure on Hillary Clinton to give up.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota is expected to endorse Sen. Obama Monday, according to a Democrat familiar with her plans. Meanwhile, North Carolina's seven Democratic House members are poised to endorse Sen. Obama as a group -- just one has so far -- before that state's May 6 primary, several Democrats say."

  • With a candidate like John Kerry in 2004. I now understand how the Democrats lost the election

Foot-in-mouth John Kerry has been displaying his silliness once again and, as I saw it on YouTube, it's not only Americans that can wonder at his inanity. According to this former Presidential candidate, Barack Obama would be able to bridge the divide between extremists and moderates in the Muslim world because he is African-American, clarifying that by adding "a black man". Jordan and Egypt were also included in Kerry's gallimaufry. Does Kerry have the slightest inkling at all. The struggle in Iraq, now concentrated in Basra, is between Sunni and Shia Muslims, all Arabs and with no connection to African-Americans whose ancestral home was sub-Saharan Africa. Senator Kerry didn't bother to mention the Kurds of northern Iraq so their attitde to skin-colour must not have been deemed important. Skin-colour is not a priority in the Muslim world, although Kerry's daft observations would suggest that this is so. Benazir Bhutto would never have been mistaken for an African-American and Kerry's outlandish statement goes totally against the grain of Martin Luther King's aspirations for a colourblind America. People outside America were astonished when George W. Bush was elected for a second time but, with a candidate such as Kerry to oppose him, it is less mystifying. The Senator is a dreary dolt.

  • @juneausmog

juneausmog: "Not only does Tom Payne get a pass, but he gets an apologist to boot. XH has condoned his insulting, name-calling and sophomoric tone because if you sort through the BS there are good points, donchya know?"

To be honest I didn't pore through every example of Tom Payne's that KateTex posted. I didn't care. I skimmed a few and they were mostly semi-scatalogical references, or mentions of Hillary's "cackling." But don't worry, I don't make a habit of defending people who are insulting; in fact I usually try to encourage people to be more civil. When people have used gender-based terms, or made sexist statements, I've strongly suggested they stop. For what it's worth.

juneausmog: "Stop making "canyons out of differences" Obama fans. Hillary is a good Democrat and a good Progressive, as is Obama. You're sliding down a slippery slope that the right-wing ideologues have found themselves at the bottom of."

I think there is a case to be made that Hillary Clinton hasn't always been the best "progressive." Her Iraq vote is a prime example. Some of her behavior in this campaign stands out as well. Another problem I have with Hillary is that she's inexricably linked to the Bill Clinton era and everything it represents, including NAFTA, opening markets to China and other countries without reasonable safeguards or regulation, non-stop fighting with the right wing, and so on. I really would prefer not to return to those days, even symbolically, which is what Hillary Clinton offers. I've always said that if she became the candidate I would vote for her, but with low enthusiasm -- and getting lower by the week. No, I don't think Barack Obama is perfect, or Our Savior, or whatever, but I think he's the best of the candidates and I think he could handily beat McCain. I also think all the people who keep chanting that McCain would beat him are completely out of their minds, since all evidence and reason suggests Hillary would fare no better.

  • Obama Won Texas

Thanks to those posters for passing along the information. I was wondering when this information would be released.

I also wonder if Salon will publish any articles or discussions of the report of the Ohio results, or the Clinton camp's low resevoir of funds for this primary season that is intended to last for three more months, or their decision to put off paying bills to their vendors so as to keep on ticking. Just wondering. It's certainly being discussed on TV and on other sites.

  • @jacksmith

Thanks for copying and pasting propaganda in here. Are you related to lolcait? Will you be pasting Nigerian get-rich schemes next?

    -------------

jacksmith: "If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience."

Obama has over a decade of elected, legislative experience, plus many years of other politically relevant experience, teaching experience, legal experience, community organizing, etc. Hillary Clinton has 6+ years of Senate experience, 8 years in the White House, and then over a decade of experience on boards of corporations, plus assorted other legal work. Both of them have solid resumes. It's a myth that one has experience while the other does not -- a Clinton talking point that anybody with half a brain can see through.

jacksmith: "If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history."

Wait -- Hillary is running on her husband's experience now?

jacksmith: "If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton."

Yeah she's got such a proven track record there.

jacksmith: "If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton."

.....who helped get us into one of them.

First of all, you've completely taken Kerry out of context and then based your entire argument against him on your own misunderstanding of his point. That's pathetic.

Secondly, if you're going to come in here and spout nonsense about something somebody said in a YouTube video, at least have the generosity to provide people with a link to the video in question, so they don't have to waste time doing keyword searches just to find out how full of it you are.
