juneausmog: "Not only does Tom Payne get a pass, but he gets an apologist to boot. XH has condoned his insulting, name-calling and sophomoric tone because if you sort through the BS there are good points, donchya know?"
To be honest I didn't pore through every example of Tom Payne's that KateTex posted. I didn't care. I skimmed a few and they were mostly semi-scatalogical references, or mentions of Hillary's "cackling." But don't worry, I don't make a habit of defending people who are insulting; in fact I usually try to encourage people to be more civil. When people have used gender-based terms, or made sexist statements, I've strongly suggested they stop. For what it's worth.
juneausmog: "Stop making "canyons out of differences" Obama fans. Hillary is a good Democrat and a good Progressive, as is Obama. You're sliding down a slippery slope that the right-wing ideologues have found themselves at the bottom of."
I think there is a case to be made that Hillary Clinton hasn't always been the best "progressive." Her Iraq vote is a prime example. Some of her behavior in this campaign stands out as well. Another problem I have with Hillary is that she's inexricably linked to the Bill Clinton era and everything it represents, including NAFTA, opening markets to China and other countries without reasonable safeguards or regulation, non-stop fighting with the right wing, and so on. I really would prefer not to return to those days, even symbolically, which is what Hillary Clinton offers. I've always said that if she became the candidate I would vote for her, but with low enthusiasm -- and getting lower by the week. No, I don't think Barack Obama is perfect, or Our Savior, or whatever, but I think he's the best of the candidates and I think he could handily beat McCain. I also think all the people who keep chanting that McCain would beat him are completely out of their minds, since all evidence and reason suggests Hillary would fare no better.
