I'm confused
If Briana Waters is really a terrorist, then shouldn't we be renditioning her to Uzbekistan so that she can be boiled alive in hot oil? Forget thirty years! Why should she get preferential treatment over all the terrorists at Guantanamo? If we're gonna fight terror, we gotta fight terror, right?

Is there anybody...
... over the age of 15 left on this thread? Thought not!

Reply to Amity on "who's a terrorist?"
How do you arrive at that interpretation? The stated, and indicated, goal of most criminal activism of this sort is to stop the activities that the activists wish to see an end to.
Someone already replied very articulately, but I'll respond as well. The ideological objective she was trying to achieve was getting Toby Bradshaw to stop participating in genetic research for the timber industry. Clearly, they weren't stupid enough to believe that burning down his lab would somehow destroy his knowledge and disable his ability to do genetic research. This isn't a 1970s James Bond movie. Researchers don't keep all their "life's work" in isolated file cabinets. Briana and her friends were sending a message. They were trying to intimidate Bradshaw by destroying property associated with him. That's terrorism.

Terrorist - YES!
Briana Waters is a terrorist. Those who think she is not a terrorist just because no one was killed should consider this scenario: If someone burned down your home while no one was home, would you want police to ignore the crime just because no one was killed? Also, fire responders put their lives on the line fighting fires set by these terrorists. Are Briana's sympathizers discounting the safety and lives of the brave fireman and police who are forced to respond and react to blantant terrorist activities like this? The definition of terrorism is "The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological." Sounds like this fits.

most i know do. Besides work that's already published, and thus available at any academic library, all their current research is at their lab. they are often forbidden from taking work home due to security issues. Remember the nuclear lab dude who took the laptop home and lost it? Theri computers are offline, again, for security issues. My sister has to go down the hall to get on an online computer to email me, all her daily work is done on a secure computer with NO connections.

the real enemy
Hello! Wake up! This is part of what 9/11 was all about. One of the neo conmen said 'Now we can do things we've wanted to do for years.' To these fanatics the real enemy has always been American liberals and dissidents and 9/11 gave them the legal ability to go after them as never before. Why do you think they let the top Taliban they had in Guantanamo Bay go and kept people like photographers, journalists, taxi drivers
and teenagers too young to be charged as adults in the normal legal system? The last thing they want is to put anyone on trial who actually knows anything about 9/11. How messy. And why do you think former inmates of Guantanamo Bay said that when they were tortured they only wanted them to admit one thing: that they were members of Al Qaida. Considering that the torturers knew they weren't, this is very strange behaviour. I wonder how many more people's lives are going to be ruined by these thugs before Americans say enough is enough. In a way they are worse than the Nazis who carried out their crimes in a dictatorship. These criminals operate in what is ostensibly a democracy, meaning this could happen to any democratic country given the right circumstances. Their war with progress never ends and that's what lies behind the 'war on terror' which they say (naturally enough) will also never end. They are a threat to the law, to the constitution and to every citizen. The answer: don't elect the bastards. If George Bush II hadn't been re-elected America would already be out of Iraq and a lot of dirty laundry would already have been washed and maybe some people who actually deserve to be in jail would already be there.

Brianna Waters is a Heroine. The gov't is the terrorist
Bring Brianna Home and sit her on a throne.
The currency of our times is no longer money; it is fesh water, clean air, beautiful land where wildlife lives in PEACE. Nothing else really matters in the long run unless drinking $ollars, looking at $ollars and sitting in a pile of $ollars is your dream. Do it but LEAVE MY DREAM and Brianna's dream for us all intact. Is this a "free" country? Do I have a voice when it comes to protecting my desires of purity to the environment. I feel completely stampeded and trodden upon by all those PROFITEERS who till the land for their own profit.
When we preserve the forests, is it so hunters can go in and cause fear, anguish, harm, despair, mutilation and death for their own PLEASURE?? Think Dick-creep Cheney and buddies havin' a good ole time shooting animals and each other. Think loggers going in to log the trees preserved by multitudes of groups hard work. We do NOT NEED more things. We need more space. It's the opposite of the supposed American Ideal. We the average American is a thoughtless Goliath just abusing everything for the almighty buck and I wish that were the male deer or that we could buck the buck and save our truly last hope for survival - NATURE, the environment, stopping cruelty and animal abuse.
Who are the truly good people on this Earth; those trying to save it or those obliterating it for gain, pleasure and sheer stupidity. Leaders like these; step down. Your time to "Rule" is over. We need a compassion for our Earth not destructiveness under the guise of Capitalism? Makes me ill in more ways than I dare say.
