If Clinton beats the odds and wins the Democratic nomination, Republicans will say she stole it. And then they'll try to give voters a 1990s flashback.

  • who knows more about stealing elections

    than republicans LOL

    can you say hypocrisy?

  • You Don't Have To Reach Out To Me

If Obama is the nominee I'll vote for him.

  • And this is supposed to HURT her...

    ...how, exactly?

No Republican will win election until they come up with a real moderate. In about thirty years. America has seen enough of their bullshit in the last seven. Make that 27.

  • @ singout

    Well said.

I share your frustration and basic analysis of the Clinton MO.

The Carville thing is so, so revealing.

It's not about the fact that Carville said a mean thing about Richardson, but about the ethos the remark reveals.

Is it not indicative of the same type of cronyism against which Hillary herself has railed in the Bush administration?

This is a very dangerous ethos in a president, if you ask me.

The idea that Richardson's loyalty is owed to the Clintons is profoundly odious.

  • @ W.E.S.

    Thanks for your response, WES.

No, I didn't mean I was reaching out as a partisan, but as a human being, as an engage citizen in the democratic process.

    I'm not here to shill.

I'm an Obama supporter, but I'm not here to win converts, but to discuss the issues in a forthright and intelligent way.

The real enemy, to me, is unreasoned discourse.

And shouting one another down and failing to listen to and consider one another's arguments and be willing to change our minds as evidence and reason dictate.

I'm trying to develop ties of trust.

Again, I apologize for lashing out at you and I thank you for responding with civility.

  • Some Frankness About Whitewater

I simply reacting to the assertion that "the Whitewater investigation never produced enough evidence to file criminal charges."

For the record, the special prosecutor filed charges and obtained convictions against eleven people including several close friends and partners of the Clintons -- Robert Palmer, Web Hubbell, Christopher Wade, Neal Ainley, Stephen Smith, Larry Kuca, Jim Guy Tucker, James McDougal, Susan McDougal, William Marks and John Haley.

A parallel prosecution obtained convictions against four additional individuals -- David Hale, Eugene Fitzhugh, Charles Matthews and John Latham.

The Clintons were never charged largely because Susan McDougal refused to answer questions directed to her as to whether then President Clinton perjured himself during her trial. She was held in contempt of court by federal Judge Susan Webber Wright for refusing to answer these questions.

Susan McDougal, Robert Palmer, Stephen Smith and Christopher Wade all received presidential pardons from Mr. Clinton during his last hours in office. At the same time, Mr. Clinton agreed to a five year suspension of his law license for making statements Judge Wright found "intentionally false" in the Paula Jones matter. As part of that agreement, the special prosecutor agreed to terminate his investigation.

  • I Hope

sveltri isn't one of the Obama people accusing the Clintons of being like the GOP..........Whitewater? Jesus.

  • GOP attack plan

GOP does not need an attack plan if Hillary wins the nomination.

Why attack a dead horse. For Hillary wo win the primary now would be suicide for her and the democratic party.

The attack the GOP needs to ready itself for is drug addiction.

John McCain dumped his first wife for Miss Politically Connected Money Bags whose fathe made his fortune creating addictions. Karma brought that addiction right to his fron door. Court order treatment rarely works for addicts, Sure as hell between now and November, when McCain gets under pressur, Cindy Lou is going to go loopity loop. Now, think about it, if one cannot get employment with WalMart without a urine screen, how can we even begin to suggest a first lady with dirty urine.

  • Hillary Can Survive the Republican Attack Machine -- Maybe -- Obama Can't.

There's a sentiment abroad that Obama has earned this nomination somehow and Hillary should withdraw out of party loyalty or some such. Obama has not won the nomination, nor should he. If the Dems want any chance to win in November, they have to nominate Hillary.

As for Republican attacks, they will be vicious as usual against either Hillary or Obama. The difference is the relative vulnerability to the attacks. There are many things that can be used agaist either one, and some of them may stick. But Obama's record with Pastor Wright exposes him to a devastating nuclear blow from the Republicans. It will defeat him in a general election contest. Hillary has baggage, for sure, but nothing even close to the Wright problem. She has a chance against McCain; he doesn't. If Obama supporters would wipe the stars from their eyes and recognize this, we'd all be better off.

  • There is so much middle ground for Hillary

I don't get why everyone always says there's no middle ground with Clinton and that you "either love her or hate her." I'm an Obama supporter, and no great fan of the campaign Clinton's running. But mostly, well, as Obama put it, I guess "she's likable enough" ( I might add: "In a pinch, like if it were her v. McCain and his bloodlust for Iran"). This doesn't undermine the central argument of the article--it might even strengthen it insofar as the real dynamic might be you either think she's likable enough or you hate her. . . Most of the people I talk to her are pretty lukewarm about her, from the liberals who think she's always gotten an unfair rap to the conservatives who really did hate her a decade ago.

In fact, I wonder if there's mostly middle ground with Clinton, at least among ordinary voters. Do any of these positive/negative perception polls include "ho-hum" as a response. They really should.

  • @ Mickey

" Hillary has baggage, for sure, but nothing even close to the Wright problem. "

Do you have evidence for this?

    It's quite a bold claim.

    How would you substantiate it?

  • Waiting For Their Savior

The Republicans are only half the problem unfortunately. The other half are disloyal Democrats, so-called liberals, and third party advocates who insist the Republicans are right about Hillary and conceed to them.

Worse are those who feel it is their duty to "protect" the electorate with their revelation so we won't waste our vote on her. Or they threaten us by promising to vote for McCain if she's nominated. That'll teach everybody a lesson.

Who are they? What is it about her that makes them so certain? Clinton's prosecution at the hands of the right only confirm their view. They swear it has nothing to do with her sex or husband's problem. It's nothing personal, it's her vote on the war, etc. but they lie and it's becoming obvious.

The Clintons don't get to be victims of anybody--after all--they knew too many people--their asses belong to the Demon Beltway. They were in authority way too long--and that alone makes them suspect.

The new political prophets have spoken on TV and here in cyberland--why don't the rest of us admit defeat? It's more understandable in blacks. They have a new hero and now they see more clearly than ever the fate of anyone who goes against the ruling class, but for the middle-class pretending to be something they are not Hillary dissing is an exercise in pretense and adolescent hubris, regardless of their age.

There is nothing HRC did so bad as to merit their "reaction" but they'll find something in the speech she gave in Rotterdam in 1978, or the latest overly enthusiastic gaff. They're basically rejecting the political process as it exists and installing their own fantasy.

They mark the return of the naive ideologues from the sixties who ran away from the political process after Nixon was elected and handed the country over to the forces that led to Bush. And still they are whining and waiting for their savior. They won't make peace with America until they are dead.
