The '08 race has revealed the weird science of the Democratic primary system -- and the true problem with the long Obama-Clinton battle.

  • Ho hum

The biggest and dumbest obstacle in this entire political electioneering game is the LENGTH of the contest(sic.) I suggest that more people will be bored-and forgetful--over the long haul to November. May or June is about the time campaigning should be getting ready to begin. It takes nine months to bring a human infant to birth, who needs two+ years of campaigning for a presidential election?

I'm going to turn off the burner, unless something real happens.

  • to Mr. Shapiro

"Had Michigan and Florida worked hard and played by the (Democratic Party's) rules, it is likely that Hillary Clinton would be a lot closer to parity with Obama had these rogue states held valid primaries."

Ah, no, I think Obama would have taken Michigan, and Jennifer Granholm knows it.

Saying what is "likely" is just repeating Clinton campaign talking points. Florida? Maybe. But Michigan? No.

  • Isn't it fun when two egomaniacs

have at each other. I think some of you folks are forgetting that first and foremost, before any loyalty to God, family, country, YOU (especially you - you are nothing more than a voting machine button pusher to them), etc, Clinton and Obama are politicians. It is a uniquely dehumanising disease. Kind of like leprosy of the soul. I think the way H.L. Mencken describes politicians is pure genius:

"A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man. In order to get anywhere near high office he has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker."

And here you have two political whores in a cat fight. Kind of like a national Jerry Springer show. The sad realization that we will be screwed by one of these people (McCain, Clinton, or Obama) only comes later.

I will say this. We can't elect Obama. If we do, that would make us an obamanation :)

  • Why is Salon avoiding the obvious

For months Obama and Hillary "made nice" until Obama won 12 primaries in a row. Faced with losing, Hillary uttered her famous: "Shame on You Barack Obama" and her campaign went into full slime mode. Come November, we can all look back and see this was the moment that Hillary handed the White House to McCain.

Since her utterance, she has lied ("sniper fire was all around us as we rushed to the cars"- now we can see the footage where there was no sniper fire and no rushing... just smiling and waving); said that only she and McCain were qualified to be the President (being a former First Lady being her credentials); and said... well, Obama is not a Muslim... "as far as I know". (Lee Atwater must be smiling to see his strategies being used by a Democrat).

But what gets me is how Salon has stood by silently. Apparently afraid to offend paying customers, Salon makes no effort to point out the obvious:

Hillary had already lost the nomination before Ohio / Texas. She could not and cannot catch up with Obama. So she has been willing to do ANYTHING to avoid defeat.

Her only hope has been to tear down Obama and go after the Super Delegates. But this ain't going to work. Obama's followers are NOT going to vote for Hillary. The democrats cannot win without the African-American vote and they are not going to vote for Hillary. (You think they will vote for Hillary after she has slimed Obama the way she has?)

Salon? Are you paying attention? Does Bill call you each day to chat? Can't offend the Clintons. They're party royalty. Does the female editor find it painful to give up the dream of Hillary being the first female President? Does the loyalty to feminism outweigh loyalty to the country?

    Very, very sad.

  • the long race

I agree that this contest seems to be stuck to the party's own disadvantage, but the lengthy horse race does keep the public's interest alive, which may serve the party in the longer term. People eagerly attending events for both Clinton and Obama, asking detailed questions about the economy, health care, and Iraq will be harder to fool when the Republican attack machine kicks in this September.

  • Poco

Did the University you graduate from preach separatism of the races or was that just Bob Jones?

  • The System Reflects Reality

The voting pattern is reflecting the reality of America. Today I read that HRC was having a rally for "white working families" in Pennsylvania. These people have been left behind by the past 3 decades. They are the Invisible People who are not web-enabled or driving hybrids. At the same time, new arrivals are gaining in power and money. The demographics favor Obama -- if trended out for the next 30 years. The issue is that he's running now...and whether it's too soon for the Old Line to release the reins or not.

  • Hillary Has a Truth Problem!

More Clinton Hypocrisy & Distortion -- Goes to Heart of Credibility!

Hillary in Tuzla: The Tale of Bosnian Sniper Fire (TRAILER)-by JedReport ,Sun Mar 23, 2008,

Hillary in Tuzla. - It's an unbelievable tale of heroism. The Baltimore Sun calls it a "whopper." - "Four Pinocchios!" says the Washington Post. "Requires enormous suspension of disbelief" raves the Huffington Post.

Camp Clinton's current strategy is to try make Barack "unelectable" and will "say and do" anything to make themselves look "electable", like the above outrageous distortion. This is wrong. Too, what the main stream media are not telling you is that this Race would have been over, but certain Republicans, edged on by Rush Limbaugh, pushed Hillary over the top by 100,000.00 votes, if were not for that, Barack would have won. The Republicans also voted for him in Ohio and gave her a substantial margin. If you think this video makes the point, please spread the word, send it to friends, family, even superdelegates. Let's just get it out there. Let's seal the deal.

  • The media

The Press hasn't helped by being so biased for one candidate and against another. They know far more than they print. It appears this year more so than others they found someone who they have created into a mythical creature. When what we really needed were the facts the Press gives us their spin to sell papers. Had they not done so the race would be more clear cut. But the press is loving this fiasco.

Now as time gets closer to the general election things like Rev. Wright surface...things that the press knew about all along and which would have put a chink in the armor of one candidate. It and other things are bound to surface during the general election. It would have been nice if they were reported early on though. We still don't know enough about who or what Obama stands for. What we've learned is that he is pretty much a typical politician and not the Obamessiah that was created. It's all about spin, which has no place in something as important as electing a President.

We rely upon the Press to get to know a candidate and this time they really let us down. I do not recall ever seeing the bias of journalist like Tim Russert or Chris Matthews ever before having come into play the way it has. It isn't journalism, more op-ed or cheerleading.
