The Obama Candidacy Is Fatally Crippled
Now it's just a matter if we are stupid enough to proceed with it.
-
Richardson's endorsement
"What Richardson's blessing signified was that an ambitious politician with close ties to Bill Clinton (they watched the Super Bowl together) decided that his self-interest would be enhanced by choosing Obama rather than Hillary." Of course it's de facto out of the question that Richardson meant what he said when he said Obama is a "once-in-a-lifetime leader." This constant discrediting of those who feel passionately about Obama is getting harder and harder to take, especially from Salon, which I used to respect. Why is it so hard for you to believe that other people really can believe in the hope and promise of Obama's campaign?
-
UGH
It sure looks as though Senator Clinton has lost. It would be smart and kind of her and a favor to our country if she would just drop out now. Doesn't look like she will. Obama is the person this country needs now and Richardson will be a fine VP for him. Senator Clinton cannot overcome her three very wrong votes..the 10/11/02 vote, the Kyl/Lieberman and her non-support of the Levin amendment. She would do the country and the Democrats a big big favor by dropping out. Clinton as a nominee would energize the Republican base and we'd get President McCain. If Obama is the nominee a lot of those people, since they don't much like McCain, will stay in their easy chairs and not vote.
-
If there were no superdelegates NOW,
It would take about 1626 rank and file delegates to win. Per the NY Times, Obama already has 1418. That would mean he'd need 208 more delegates.
Even if the supercowards are too afraid of the Clintons to vote now, maybe they would at least be brave enough to vote themselves out of existence. I figure that would put Obama over the top by May 20, when Oregon and Kentucky vote.

Hillary is a monster!
There are so many things wrong with this article, I don't know where to begin.
First of all, aren't you the guy who wrote a piece for Salon after the Texas and Ohio primaries saying that a protracted battle was good for the Democratic party, that it would get them publicity and get McCain ignored therefore making them that much stronger? You were wrong then and you're still wrong.
Bill Richardson's endorsement was overdue and welcome. The real self-interested parties in this race are the superdelegates who have not made a committment yet. They are patiently waiting on the sidelines, hedging their bets, and hoping to play a juicy role as deal brokers at the 11th hour. What they don't realize is that in the meantime Hillary Clinton is going to piss away their chances of taking back the White House. She and her husband have all but endorsed McCain for president. Hillary's new motto is "If not me then McCain." Witness her husband's attempt to cast dispersions on Obama's "patriotism" this past weekend. Straight out of the Republican play book.
We all know Clinton has no way of pulling this off except the shady way and the fact that she's sticking with it in hopes that the American people simply won't mind or that we'll look the other way when that ugly moment comes--she's got another thing coming to her.
Why don't more superdelegates grow some balls and make a decision. The Democratic nominating system is screwed up but the party elders can use their influence and their votes to fix it if only they weren't such a bunch of panzies.
Let's put an end to this thing!

No it really just highlights a deeper problem
That Dems can never resist an opportunity to screw things up. All we're seeing is the elevation of personal zealotry above the need to elect someone. Dems are great at this - they closer they get to the election, the louder the calls for everyone's marginal issues to get included gets. I wonder if the circus parade of midgets, trannies, furries, Marxists will all get to the convention on time.
Obama, seeing he can't win on issues is using the biggest hammer he has in the toolbox: Race. So now the election is going to be about race. You're not a racist, are you? Hillary on the other hand can't argue personal charisma, because she has none. She can't argue 'experience' because she really doesn't have a great deal of that either. And apparently even the women of America aren't ready to get behind a female candidate and push real hard. Why? Because it's all about each micro agenda that the Dems pride themselves on. Handicapped Honduran Lesbian Fruit Pickers for Wicca!!!!!

Simpler and Quicker
I wish, I wish, I wish it all happened more quickly and simply. So many people began this with a feeling of preference but willingness to support any chosen Democratic candidate. I liked Clinton but felt good about Obama too at the start. Through this long process I've become more and more entrenched as a Clinton supporter. If Obama had won this early on it would have been easy for me to pull the lever for him in spite of my preference -- now it will scald my heart though I will most likely do it. I think the same probably holds true for his supporters.
Howard Dean's leadership seems to have done little more than cut off the Florida and Michigan noses to spite our face.
I would heartily support a national primary day, or regional primary voting and let that be an end to it.

You are Soooooo Correct
"What they don't realize is that in the meantime Hillary Clinton is going to piss away their chances of taking back the White House. She and her husband have all but endorsed McCain for president. Hillary's new motto is "If not me then McCain." Witness her husband's attempt to cast dispersions on Obama's "patriotism" this past weekend. Straight out of the Republican play book."
The Clintons and their handlers are the most despicable people to come into American politics since Nixon. Please God send them out to pasture or to the Moon but get rid of them......

What we hear about Obama, and don't hear about Clinton
"...after a week punctuated by Obama's right-stuff response to wrong-way Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Clinton's document dump of today-tea-was-served White House schedules, "
Also note what we hear about Rev. Wright, but we don't hear about Clinton's membership in "the Family," "the Fellowship," and other right-wing Bible study groups.
