Her campaign is nervously optimistic, but she faces a daunting delegate map -- and perhaps forces beyond her control -- in the race against Obama.

  • "But if there is an Obama rhapsody in the air, the 66-year-old Strickland insists that he cannot hear it. "

    Walter's implication: that's because he's soooooooo old.

  • But the buck never stops with Clinton

Strange pun, it might work a bit better if one of the candidates was from Ohio, was a "Buckeye."

Harry Truman's phrase meant "I take responsibility, I can't pass the buck." Clinton never takes responsibility--not for her war vote or NAFTA. The buck just never stops with her, someone else is always to blame.

Maybe she's gotten the campaign that suits her. Penn and company all blame others for the defeats and problems. The buck never stops with them either. It's the media's fault she's losing, doncha know.

But this week the media, from SNL to the outlets, have given Clinton scads of free advertising and positive coverage. If she can't win this week, particularly in Ohio, you've got to wonder how she can ever win again.

Not that losing would be her fault, mind you.

  • Scorched-earth HRC won't drop out anyway

Even if she loses all 4 states tomorrow, according to Reuters. So, it's down with the party altogether if she doesn't get her way, apparently. How unlike her!

You see, children, it makes a "possible win" against McCain in 2012 much more likely, though; and don't kid yourself--that's what she's concerned about. Screw the people. This is supposed to be her time! Don't you idiots know that?

She'll show you! She'll show us all.

    Jesus.

  • What an asshat

"I have had friends say to me, 'I just have this feeling, literally. I have this feeling.' And I think, 'I'm not sure that's healthy.' We're not trying to choose the next winner of "American Idol." We're engaged in the serious work of electing the next president."

Yet another Clinton supporter compares Obama to a contestant on "American Idol," insultingly invalidating anybody who likes Obama based on having good feelings about him.

You know, I am pretty sure there are a lot of Clinton supporters who base their preference on their feelings too, like the numerous people I've seen in Salon's message boards who have written "I feel in my gut she is the right person to vote for," etc.

Support who you want to support. Don't mock other people for making a different choice than you do. Don't demean Obama supporters by assuming they are voting for cheap reasons that you're projecting onto them. Many Obama supporters have quite legitimate reasons for appreciating and prefering him. At the very least you have to grant us that.

  • Hillary

I hate to break this to you, but the VOTERS will pick the nominee, not the media. The primary season lasts until June, and Hillary has every right to remain in the race until somebody gets 2025 delegates.

  • Stay in to win, Hillary

If Hillary stays in the race and the superdelegates decide, good.

After the last several weeks of Obama's media coronation and outspending her four to one, Obama still can't put her away. Why? Because a hell of a lot of Democratic voters won't vote for Obama. Some of them won't vote at all if Obama is nominated and some will defect to McCain.

How many? Obama will lose Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, and a new poll in New Jersey shows him losing by 2 to McCain (Hillary wins by 11).

Stay as long as it takes, Hillary. Obama can't win in November.

  • Tim Strickland, you, a shrink support Hillary?

You should seriously have your head examined.

  • Nafta and Rezco

Are American Democrats insane? Obama sends a top economic advisor to a foreign government. The guy makes secret comments about Obama's intentions on NAFTA and was surprised this was a big deal. Don't worry, Obama initially denied it then later admitted it but said it was not serious. Oh, I forgot...In a new political reality created by Obama, going to a foreign government unprepared and shooting off your mouth is no big deal with no possiblity of real consequences. The Syrian criminal Rezco and his billionaire Iraqi businessman buddy have given Obmama upwards of 200,000 dollars (for his campaigns)and a sweet house deal and no on in the press has asked what did Obama do for them or promise to them to get such major support. I wonder if Obama's speech against the war in 2002 when he was running for Illinois senate had anything to do with his support from Rezco and his Iraqui friend. The Green Day song "American Idiot" speaks to me about Obama supporters, I just get this feeling.... Obama should not even be on the list of possible people being considered for the Democratic Nomination.

  • "You see, children, it makes a "possible win" against McCain in 2012"

She's finished after this. The Democrats won't touch her in 2012 and her doners will be gone. I'm sure she has her sights set on 2012, and that's her gane plan, but she'll be kicked out of the game after this ugly fiasco.

Hopefully tomorrow won't be kind to her, but I have a bad feeling she'll win both Texas and Ohio and she won't stop untill she's fractured the Democratic party.

  • Hey fact check...

REALLY check your "facts," and them file them where the sun don't shine.

  • Giving Credence to Kitchen Table Issues

Clinton's campaign may be "nervously optimistic" about Ohio and Texas, but I believe that working-class Democrats of whatever age represent what will continue to drive this nomination process and the election in November: kitchen table issues.

Working-class Democrats are the real "heart and soul" of the Democratic Party. They walk the talk every day across the country, particularly in the Northeast, but also in southern Texas, in some Gulf Coast communities, and in the port cities of California and Washington State.

While the Iraq War still has traction, the economy is slipping into recession. That, combined with a weak dollar, the amount of debt now owned by foreign countries, gasoline prices on the rise and, of course, the spider-webbing housing and mortgage crisis, are "forces" of their own that actually help Hillary Clinton tomorrow and in the longer term.

  • Stop writing her off. Stop writing all of us off.

Millions of people voted for Clinton. There is a process in place to select Democratic candidates. Let it happen. In the past, we haven't had enough of a contest to make a difference. One candidate has been so far in the lead that it was pointless to go to the convention. But this year we actually have two candidates that are close enough to matter. What is the point of having primaries in late voting states if we're going to try to pressure candidates in second place to drop out of the race before they even vote? Why bother having a nominating convention at all? If this is really Clinton's "last stand", then all of those states that haven't voted yet should simply cancel their elections and not schedule more. Saying that the election doesn't matter if "X" happens is an insult to everybody who voted, and to everybody who has ever voted in a late primary.

I know that Clinton has very, very little chance of winning the primary at this point. But I want to see her go to the convention. I want those who haven't voted to have their say. Please let it happen - tell the story instead of trying to form the story.
