Hillary at twilight

Was her campaign stop in an Ohio town called Hanging Rock a metaphor -- or a symbol of dogged defiance?

The Shameful Actions of The Obama Campaign Disenfranchised Over ½ Million Alabama Voters

The Shameful Actions of The Obama Campaign Disenfranchised Over ½ Million Alabama Voters

In a move that resembles the classic “business as usual” Washington, D.C. politics, Senator Obama Campaign disenfranchised over a half-million voters who voted in the Alabama Democrat Primary by throwing out the half-million ballots which selected fifty delegate candidates on Super Tuesday. At the state Democrat Party meeting this past Saturday, the Obama Camp selected all twelve delegates to the convention without a single vote being cased. People went to the polls in record numbers and cased their votes and expected their voices to be heard. The Obama Camp move ignored their voices.

How can a candidate, who runs a campaign about empowering voters, take such an action, that disenfranchised so many, and contradict the central principal of his entire campaign? The Obama Camp talks about changing the way Washington dose business, but it is just business as usual for them. Their action just serves as evidence that the Camp Obama has played us all for fools. His campaign is a fake. He is just another Washington politician selling a pipe dream that his own campaign is not even living up too. This is shameful. Shame on the Obama Campaign. You should practice what you preach. In your own words, you should “say what you mean, and mean what you say.”

cecilbeanie and the vast doc-wing conspiracy??

what a bizarre post. where did all that conspiracy theory come from?? I can restate yet again why the "conversion" interests me: this was a person who went very far in her denunciations of Senator Obama, and then read some anti-Hillary articles written by her enemies and critics, and suddenly, inexplicably (to me) began an unending stream of anti-Clinton invective. And, nota bene, without really explaining what it is she now likes about Obama.

Maybe it shows how susceptible some supporters of Obama are to what the press tells them. Maybe it demonstrates that for some at least the attachment to Obama is little more than an aversion to Hillary. Maybe it says something more universal, as I suggested in my story of my own cousin--converts are the biggest fanatics, whether in politics or religion or some other area of life.

It sure doesn't have anything to do with "conspiracies", for heaven's sake!

As I said, how bizarre.

@WTEblog: Spam, Spam, Spam

I don't see need to spam what looks to be the same exact post across several letter threads. We were getting into quite a thoughtful dustup without it.

Bizarre?

What gets me as bizarre is how anybody could want a pants suit clad war hawk to be their fist woman president. Today Iraq, tommorow Iran! What furthers boggles the brain as completely insane, is the fact that anybody would want a Clinton Mach III dynasty, with Bill as co-president, while I guess Chelsea will be groomed for the succesion to the throne. Yeah, that's the kind of injection of new blood and perspective that gets me all excited going to polls. Man Doc, I'd vote for Adlai Stevenson too if I was you. Given a choice between Clinton and the dead guy, the dead guy gets my vote every time.

ah, manos, the with-it guy

Just wondering, manos, if you "got" my post about Adlai or not. Being as hip and with it as you are, the not-so-subtle allegoroy surely wasn't missed, right?

what's that phrase again? a pants-suited war hawk? you do have a way with words. if only you had a way with logic or common sense, you'd be unbeatable.

oops, is that another analogy??

manos, sorry I didn't proofread

that's "allegory."

Thats, alright doc,

I don't really give a shit.

@doc5467: Adlai then and now

Doc, I was too young to be aware of Adlai Stevenson; though I found his book, Present at the Creation quite the read. There do seem some parallels between then and now, but also some differences. Since you were actually around, I'd be interested in your take. My Thoughts:

McCain is no Eisenhower. Eisenhower, for all his other faults, was probably the only candidate in recent times really ready to be C-in-C on day one. He was a leading general in the shared experience of WWII in a way that McCain or anyone else from the VietNam era will never be. His contemporary stature as a leader and "reluctant" politician is quite different from McCain.

This time around, a different party owns responsibility for an unpopular war. Back then, it was Truman and Korea. Now it is Bush and Iraq (always seem to keep forgetting about Afghanistan). Back then the cold war was raging; to date the Neocons have failed to paint their war as the new cold war despite attempts to equate the Terrorists to the USSR. Back in '52 the red-scare fear card was waxing and played very effectively. Now it seems like the fear card in 2008 has been played out, at least for now. Are we closer to '52 or to '60 or even '68?

And the young will vote as the young always do. It'll be over before they know it.

Finally, regarding those "...interests" he'll fight against if elected, I probably shouldn't hold my breath for an explanation about why Sen. Obama has taken $91,646,221 from some of the largest Wall Street firms, financial institutions and lobbyists.

Why? "Because that's where the money is".The amount of money it takes to run for President is appalling and revolting.

"Discussing the issue of campaign finance reform, Obama said, 'The argument is not that I'm pristine, because I'm swimming in the same muddy water," but he added, 'The argument is that I know it's muddy and I want to clean it up.'" http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7008228952

I haven't fallen under his spell but it must be really something, given that so many "smart" people buy and believe every single thing he says. Some of us would call that either magical thinking...or denial.

What about this young man? Would you say he's thinking magically, or is he in denial?

Obama at Dawn

We need policy people, but we also need imagination and courage to implement policy. Madeline Albright was a sharp lady but in the eyes of the Middle East was considered an"old hag," and was sorely resented.The Sheiks will smile and salaam when visiting the White House but there will be an underlying resentment in having to deal with a woman in a pantsuit whom they will assume, regardless of the verisimilitude, that big boy Bill is behind the curtain calling the shots. There will be a much better simpatico with a strong man; half black, half white, half Muslim, half Christian, half American, half African, whose roots came from their part of the world. It's a perfect combination, and the dawning of a new foreign policy. Put yourself in their place...
