I know that this is now an emotional issue and not a rational one, and I don't imagine that there is anything I can say that will change your mind. However, there is just no evidence to support the theory that Obama will lose against McCain. None. Nadda. Zip. In fact most polling indicates that Obama beats McCain and Hillary doesn't. You can see for yourself here:

One exception is Rassmussen which has McCain beating Obama by 3% points and beating Hillary by 4% points:

It is illogical to suggest that because Obama lost the primaries in CA, NY, NJ and MA that he will not carry those traditionally Democratic states in the general election. Even if every single primary voter who voted for Clinton stays home. Obama won more votes in most of these primaries than McCain, Romney and Huckabee combined. There is no reason and no evidence to suggest that the majority of voters in these traditionally Democratic states will not vote for Obama simply because he is not Hillary. The idea that Democratic voters in these states would rather vote for, pro-war, anti-abortion, anti-health care reform, pro-Hagee, McCain just flies in the face of reason.
If you have some evidence or actual historical references to support this argument, I'd love to hear them. I think there are a lot of reasons to vote for Hillary, so I don't begrudge you your choice. These aren't some of them though.
I'm sorry, but this petition is an outrageously low tactic, seeing as how there are two MAJOR primary elections next Tuesday, in which Hillary Clinton is still a very viable candidate. It's tactics like this which are increasingly alienating her supporters from Obama. Your arrogance is simply astounding.
If the California primaries were held today, Hillary would lose to Obama by 5-10 points. The same would be true for most states she won on Super Tuesday. She would even struggle to win her present home state of NY. Obama may very well lose to McCain, although I doubt that very much, but Hillary woule get trounced by him. She's doing terribly among independents and young voters, and not that well among many other groups . To make matters worse, many Democrats are so mad at her Iraq war vote, they consider her as bad as McCain and wouldn't bother to vote in November. It's simple, with Obama we have a fair chance to win, with Hillary no chance whatsoever. Another point her supporters should consider very seriously-if she is being trounced among Democrats by a young and inexperienced candidate to whom she managed to squander a huge lead she held in every public opinion poll only a couple momths ago, if she's being booed by Democrats during debates because of her anger and self-pity while Obama drwas massive crowds an immense enthusaism among diverse voting groups, how in the world can she be a viable candidate in the general elections?
YOUR arrogance IS quite astounding.
Ummmm - hate to quibble but McCain beats Obama or Obama beats McCain is not history - history happens in the past this will happen in the future.
I am an Obama supporter and this petition stinks. You know, there IS a series of primaries on Tuesday. I would like to see how it plays out. Frankly i agree with one earlier poster that i really don't see any problem with this going to the convention, if necessary.
You know, at the end of the day, we had better realize that we are fighting against MCCAIN and his ilk who want us to spend another 100 years in the middle east with our big guns and zipped lips, exhausting our troops, their families and our countries financial resources. THEY think its 1942...or 1972.
We had better realize THAT'S what we're fighting. However this primary race ends, I am committed to seeing to it that either Obama or Hillary take the place of the horrible Bush administration and those who would seek to continue its legacy.
And the TRUTH is, if we all had (and displayed) that same level of commitment, even as we cast our primary votes, NO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE WOULD BE ABLE TO WIN. PERIOD.
(Imagine for a moment the FEAR the republican party would feel if they heard us ALL saying that we plan to vote the party no matter who is nominated? Imagine as YOU cast your vote for Hillary and I for Obama we BOTH agree - and let them KNOW - we're voting democrat in November. Just imagine their fear and hopelessness they'd feel! We've had 5 times their turnout in the primaries. We can't be beaten if we WAKE UP).
P.S. You want to pass around a petition? How about you pass around something effective? Encourage people to pledge their support to the DEMOCRAT in the general election, no matter who they so ardently support. Do something worthwhile.
You are acting as if this is her political doom. I doubt it. She will return to the Senate and possibly become Senate Majority Leader, a job for which she is hugely suited given her ability to work with Republicans and her excellent grasp of issues. She will shine at that job and she will be able to pass a lot of legislation that matters to her and the rest of us.
She is not going to hide under a rock and she is playing her cards brilliantly. If Obama wins the Presidency, and he probably will given McCain's negatives, he will need her cooperation. She will be in a very, very strong position.
She has been a wonderful Senator for my state and I am proud of her.
You say: "It's tactics like this which are increasingly alienating her supporters from Obama." Uh, aren't her supporters already alienated from Obama?
The petition is not a low tactic and those who began it are well within their rights to circulate it. Many people believe that Clinton can't win the nomination. Others disagree. Those who think she can't win are suggesting that she withdraw because her continued presence in the race is damaging to the Dems prospects for gaining the White House in November. No one realistically expects her to withdraw from the Tuesday primaries. But the reality is that she does have to win very impressive victories on Tuesday to remain viable. This petition is simply an appeal to Clinton's better angels - please think of the good of the party and of the nation. Do not put your ambitions above the more important task of getting the Republicans out of the White House. Clinton does not have to withdraw, no one can make her but is it not the very essence of public service that one puts the public good first, ahead of one's personal desires and ambitions?
