  • @KateTex

No apologies needed for the "Nixonian touch." It is is quite apropos. Speaking of Nixon, I'm surprised we haven't heard the Clinton camp complaining about the "nattering nabobs of negativity," a la Spiro Agnew.

  • Hillary Rodham Clinton

Hillary is going to kick Obama in the butt come March 4, so keep your hopes up, Walter.

  • "Salon Fan" Thank you for your great post

I hope that Hillary supporters who are parroting Hillary's ridiculing and mocking Obama supporters, will take time to read your post. That should lay to rest the stale and pungent argument that somehow former Hillary supporters have been hypnotized and hijacked by the Obama choir into lalaland and total annhilation.

KateTex and her ilk should also stop to consider why no Obama supporters are moving over to the Clinton nursery. The movement so far has been pretty one sided - from Hillary to Obama and NOT vice versa. Could it be that more Hillary dirty tricks are being washed in public. Could it be that Hillary is being exposed as an irate school teacher who has lost control over her brood, hence the finger pointing, finger wagging and specious ads on television reminiscent of the final solution in a mushroom cloud used against Barry Goldwater. Thinking back to the '60s folks, I can tell you that Barry Goldwater's politics were left of what Hillary is now preaching. Also know, that Hillary was a Barry Goldwater girl and came into the Democratic kicking and screaming, which she is still doing.

The much ballyhooed "experienced" Hillary has bodies of a lot of committed Democrats in her stinky closet. She is nothing more than an opportunist (why would she stay in a marriage where her husband cheated throughout their married life together, if not to ride on his coattails? This is not love folks, but blind ambition). All her friendships are opportunistic. Look up how she treated the much respected and revered women such as Lani Guineer, Joycelene Elders and Marian Edelman. Many many of former Clinton operatives are now running the Obama campaign. Why? They talk openly about Clinton fatigue and the constant fighting within the administration and their constant fight with the media. Yes. There is a Clinton bias in the media and that will not go away if Hillary is elected. We will have 4 more years of Clinton vs the media. The media will stay on her butt and scrutinize her every move whether rightly or wrongly. This is Clinton fatigue and frankly American citizens are sick and tired of their dysfunctions played out in the public arena.

  • a little bias, sure

I am a thinking Obama supporter but I do agree that Hillary has had a bit of a tough time in the press recently.

She started as a front runner, with no one thinking she could be beat. Up pops Obama (one of the underdogs). It's sad but what we're seeing is the irresistible entertainment combination: the rise of the underdog and the simultaneous fall from grace of the most powerful.

Before you lambaste me, I'm NOT suggesting the race is over. Hillary is still in the race at this point. I am mere stating that the media is an extension (albeit one that can be very powerful) of American tastes.

(Which is why people are elated when the underdog wins the Superbowl and why we're secretly intrigued watching poor Britney's latest psychotic break).

TV loves this classic arrangement and this Democratic primary is more than they can resist.

    SAD BUT TRUE.

I don't however, think that it is the primary factor in her campaign problems. Her primary problem is a poorly run campaign that:

a - didn't really recognize what's in the hearts of real people rights now (clue: we're sick of partisan politics as usual and want the return of our government to ourselves - and some leaders with common sense to boot).

b - they didn't plan on a contended race (never a good idea)

c - they never nailed down her message and were slow to make adjustments as needed

d - failure to organize at a grass roots level

Her campaign is what is doing her in and now that it seems she's figured it out, it may MAY be too late.

The costume drama was no the first time that the Clinton camp tried using the Muslim card. Former Senator Bob Kerry (and long time friend of Bill) played it back in mid December.

    From the Times:

Kerrey continued: “It’s probably not something that appeals to him, but I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim and that his paternal grandmother is a Muslim. There’s a billion people on the planet that are Muslims, and I think that experience is a big deal.”

....So today, CNN’s correspondent John King asked Mr. Kerrey in the SitRoom about those comments:

Mr. King: Now, senator, you say that at a time when Barack Obama has to go out from time to time in his events and tell people “I’m a Christian. I’m a Christian,” because he thinks there’s a smear campaign going on under the radar about who he is, trying to maybe peel some people away who might get worried about a guy named Barack Hussein Obama.

So some would say this is cynical — a new Hillary Clinton supporter doing this to try to stir this up again.

    ......

    Appalling stuff.

  • Was her campaign stop in an Ohio town called Hanging Rock a metaphor ...

...or a symbol of dogged defiance?

    Huh?

I used to see metaphors, "signs" and alot of other stuff in street names, fence posts, house numbers, clouds and all kinds of stuff, but I was on shrooms then.

Walt I think is trying to get in on Maureen Dowds territory of seeing things that are not there. Remember the color of Gores jackets were pretty meaningful once too.

As Walt is probably aware, neither candidate will have enough delegates to get them over the 2025 delegates required for nomination even if ALL superdelegates went one way or the other. So straight numbers help no-one according to party rules. The nomination will be decided on pure politics and based on that, Hillary does not even have to consider a decision until Pennsylvania is done.
