Hillary at twilight

Was her campaign stop in an Ohio town called Hanging Rock a metaphor -- or a symbol of dogged defiance?

The letters thread is now closed.

@ My Dear Madame DeFarge

What makes you and all of Hillary's supporters think, that these issues won't come up in the fall?

Hillary opens the door to her past, every time she uses her WH experience, as a reason to vote for her. It wasn't all sweetness and light. In fact, it seems as though most supporters of HRC have an even worse memory than I do, and I can barely remember much of anything.

I supported the Clintons during the nineties a great personal cost. My extended family, literally imploded over Bill's impeachment. While he was under attack, I defended him to the max, but after it was all over and I began to reflect on it, and decided that I was ashamed of how I had allowed myself to defend a pretty sordid situation.

With hindsight, I'm even more appalled, both at the scandals, and at my willingness to give a pass to Bill's behavior.

For reasons both political and personal Madame Defarge, is so, my alter ego. Glad you approve.

I wouldn't be at all surprised by a demonstrated media bias against Clinton

The media was very biased against Gore and against Kerry (so it's not necessarily a gender issue). They generally liked Clinton-the-first, and Bush-the-second. There's a little pattern here with who becomes president. PEOPLE are biased - have likes and dislikes. The fact that the media seem to like Obama is a reason I support him now - it's an indication of how they will treat him in the fall, which is closely linked to his ability to win in November.

Fair shakes and the lack thereof

Can you understand how frustrating it is to favor Clinton but believe she absolutely can't get a fair hearing, simply because she is a Clinton (well, by marriage)?

I was a Dean supporter in '04. I feel your pain. But by the same token, Hillary would probably be a political footnote at best if she wasn't a Clinton by marriage. Her challenge was to capitalize on the good feelings from the Clinton administration and her own strengths, while sidestepping the pitfalls of sexism and Clinton hate. I don't think she's risen to that challenge.

Madame DeFarge and Professor

I accept HRC faults, not saying I like them, and simply do not accept what I perceive as Obama true thuggish personality under his smiley

face. I do Not buy into what he is selling.

I am amazed that because the media is giving Obama, and before

him GWBush, a free pass that the Professor supports him. For

crying out loud, look what we wound up with in Bush!

To each his own I guess.

@KateTex@10:26a.m.

You write:

"if you try to say, 'Well, where's the evidence of racism in the Clinton campaign?' you're accused of being a naïve shill for the Clintons."

My response is "if you try to provide Clinton supporters with evidence of [take your pick - the list is long], they dismiss it out of hand as propaganda from "Kool-Aid" drinking, delusional members of the Obama cult." And, I'd point out that that is much more insulting than being called a "naive shill" - naive implies, well, naive. Describing someone as a delusional, cult member implies that they are dangerous. Further, calling someone a "naive shill" says you are on the other side, calling someone delusional, etc. says that you are paranoid.

Of course, there is no overt racism coming from the Clinton camp - they are not stupid. I can, however, point to evidence:

1. How about the sub-text of what Bill said about the results of the S.C. primary. How is shrugging off the significance of Obama's win by pointing out that Jesse Jackson won S.C. (which, by the way, in political time is ancient history) not racist? Do you only see racism if it jumps up and bites you on the nose (i.e., when someone uses the "n")word? If you do not see the racism in his remarks, either you don't want to or you just don't get it.

2. As far as I know, the Clinton camp has not yet denied any involvement in the Obama "photo flap" (if they have I will withdraw this evidence with apologies). Moreover, they have stubbornly refused to acknowledge the sub-text of circulating this particular photo of Obama (and that has nothing to do with their involvement or non-involvement). Their position is that by taking offense to the photo's publication, the Obama camp are the ones who are implying that there's something shameful about being Muslim. They are wrong . The one and only purpose of circulating the photo was to feed the rumors that Obama is Muslim, and because he is Muslim people should neither trust nor vote for him. This is the subtext underlying circulation of this particular photo: Muslim = bad; Obama = Muslim; therefore, Obama = bad; therefore vote for his opponent. If you can't see that as racism you either don't want to or don't get it.

Not been a great year for the pundits

wrong there are a lot of pundits that all of a sudden are getting all the face time on tv they want all they have to do is write a hit piece on HRC.

There is a TV station that has to live up to Honesty in broadcasting rules that gives information about the honesty of BHO and all of our press rushes to kill the story, even tho it gives names and sources. A paper (NYT) which has already been shown to write lies if they help their politician, writes a piece filled with nothing but innuendos about McCain and everyone runs with it.

Give Hillary credit for believing that everyone even those of us in small towns deserve representation, as a constituent of Mr Obama I know personally that he doesn't believe that.

Happy Jack, Obama only hope for rescuing us. I don't need to be rescued just need a president that believes that this is a country of the people. Even those of us who live in small rural areas. My Senator Mr Obama doesn't believe that.

Soopergrover: Do you think he would be a candidate. didn't you read article Obama is ready for ascension.
