This March 4th will be one of the most critical dates – ever. Hillary Rodham Clinton must win the plurality of delegates in both Ohio and Texas to recapture her momentum for the Democratic nomination for President.
Of the two candidates, Hillary Clinton has the only resume that is appropriate. The resume of Mr. Obama is no comparison. What Mr. Obama does have is a great gift of glowing rhetoric; but we are electing a President, someone to lead the Executive Branch of our government, not a preacher to take over for the legendary Reverend Billy Graham.
The people so far in this country who have voted so enthusiastically for Mr. Obama, are in my opinion being led along like a horde of "lemmings". Lemmings are small wild animals that are noted for mass migrations in which they all just follow each other in a wild and crazed dash, usually right off into mass drownings.
Mr. Obama means well, is a nice person and is not an evil person; but in my opinion is far too full of himself, and is bringing thousands along with him (so far) with his glowing hollow feel good rhetoric that in my opinion will lead to nothing but total disappointment and failure for the American people if he is the nominee and elected President. It will be George Bush and the year 2000 all over again.
Mr. Obama must be stopped here on March 4th in Ohio and Texas, and he can be.
To help me present my case, I will present some quotes here from some people far smarter than me.
Robert Samuelson; "The Obama Delusion", February 20, 2008, (Wash. Post). From the article: "Newcomer Obama is largely a stage presence defined mostly by his powerful rhetoric. The trouble is the huge and deceptive gap between his captivating oratory and his actual views". Continuing in the same article: "The contrast between his broad rhetoric and his narrow agenda is stark, and yet the media -- preoccupied with the political "horse race" -- have treated his invocation of "change" as a serious idea rather than a shallow campaign slogan. He seems to have hypnotized much of the media and the public with his eloquence and the symbolism of his life story. The result is a mass delusion that Obama is forthrightly engaging the nation's major problems when, so far, he isn't".
Bill Maxwell, “Obama’s Dangerous Halo”, Scripps Howard News Service, February 27, 2008. From the article: “There are those who suggest, only half-jokingly, that Obamamania has become something of a cult. Of course it is a cult, manifesting what writer James Wolcott refers to as “salvational fervor” and “pure euphoria.” Listen to what the Anointed One said in South Carolina at one of his rallies, which he alludes to as tent revivals: “At some point in the evening, a light is going to shine down and you will have an epiphany and you’ll say, ‘I have to vote for Barack!’ Something insidious is happening beneath this rapture. Because of the halo effect, too many people are afraid to sincerely criticize Obama for fear of being attacked and otherwise humiliated. Many white Democrats who do not support Obama are keeping their heads down and their mouths shut. They do not want to be denounced as racists for preferring Hillary Rodham Clinton for reasons that have nothing to do with race”.
Continuing in the article; “Even the networks’ latenight talk-show hosts and MSNBC’s prime-time troika of Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrams are swooning for Obama. Predictably, the people most negatively affected by Obamamania are blacks who have resisted the new, emerging black monolith by supporting Clinton. These poor souls are being excoriated by other blacks and sometimes labeled as self-loathing Uncle Toms. The irony is that at the beginning of the campaign, conventional wisdom held that Obama was “not black enough.” He had to prove his black bona fides. After all, his mother was a white Kansan, his father a Kenyan. He was born too late for the civil rights movement. Now the tables have turned. Obama is on top, with the overwhelming majority of blacks zealously supporting him. That support is the new litmus test for being “authentically” black.”
“The attacks against ordinary blacks who do not support the Haloed One are nasty enough, but they pale in comparison to the abuse being absorbed by famous blacks, especially members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Many decent, hardworking blacks who have done exemplary public work for a generation are portrayed as villains”.
NOTE: Bill Maxwell’s status as one of the country's preeminent black journalists is unquestioned. Mr. Maxwell writes a twice-weekly column for the St. Petersburg Times, and is syndicated by the New York Times News Service and by Scripps-Howard. His columns appear in 200 newspapers worldwide.
Let me close with the following exact quote from Tom Buffenbarger, President of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, who is supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton. “Barack Obama is no Muhammad Ali. He took a walk every time there was a tough vote in the Illinois state senate. He took a walk more than 130 times. That’s what a shadow boxer does. All the right moves. All the right combinations. All the right footwork. But he never steps into the ring.”
Ladies and Gentlemen in Ohio and Texas, please vote on Tuesday March 4th for Hillary Rodham Clinton. IT’S URGENT! She is the only candidate with the resume to do the job. And remember, this election is not about race. It’s about the most qualified person to take on the work to be done starting in January 2009.
