They were worse. Patrick suggested using those lines to Obama, and its well know each has allowed the other to pick up snippets from each others speeches. Patrick used lines from Obama's famouse 2004 convention speech. (aside: I'm an Obama supporter and I think its fine if these two are friends and do this, but I feel both should always reference the other when its done).
This wasn't the first time Hillary Clinton has stolen John Edwards debate material. Last night was particularly unforgivable since she made that snide "Change you can Zerx" remark and continued to make an issue of Obama's srior speech.
And I do find the maudlin story about visiting the wounded vets tasteless considering she voted for this hideous war, voted for Kyl/Lieberman and has never publically admitted her Iraq vote was a mistake. She wants it every which way.
I've just waded through the morass of meaningless words and wonder when the Americans lost their sense of humour as they argue relentlessly about an everyday expression such as "We'll be fine", as though John Edwards had copyright. I've just come up with a brilliant idea, although it's immodest to boast about my mental acuity. Americans will understand that bragging about great speeches, facility with words, Ivy League education leaves someone wide open to derision but I still want to try this one out on you. The British Royal Family lives in considerable style but the Royal coffers are always ready for new infusions of lucre. The Americans have arrogated English to themselves and quite shamelessly pretend that they invnted it, although its root is Germanic with an intertwining of French after the Norman Conquest. Standard English is regally described as "the Queen's English" and you should count yourselves lucky that she's never thought of suing you for mass plagiarism. Hillary's problem is that she's too serious; instead of saying "We'll be fine" or whatever version of that is regarded as a rare linguistic gem, she could have broken into that old Beatles number "I'm in love with him and I feel fine". When you quit arguing about the uniqueness of "We'll be fine", you should consider doing the decent thing and compensate Queen Elizabeth 11 for using and abusing her language. The fact that the Founding Fathers were English is neither here nor there as their United States is a far cry from today's where trivialities preoccupy the public discourse. The American embassy in Belgrade was attacked and burned by Serbs yesterday as a reaction to what they regard as American interference in Eastern Europe but the NYT flaunts suggestions about John McCain's "alleged" intimate relationship with a lobbyist. Can we now expect another "bimbo eruption" while real political eruptions are occurring elsewhere? President Musharaff's defeat in Pakistan's Presidential election does have ramifications for the US which are of far more important than semantic squabbles. "A soft day, thank God, a wind from the south with a honeyed mouth, the scent of drenching leaves..."No, I didn't copy that from John Edwards or Deval Patrick; I learned it in primary school.
I can't decide if it's karma or just irony that Hillary is losing to a candidate whose only appeal is giving convincing speeches about change. One thing's for sure: Bush Sr. is probably laughing so hard he's fallen out of his rocker.

Thanks for the link. It would do anyone who doubts that Obama is "just a talker" good to read this.
I am slightly favoring Obama, but don't expect huge change in the Whitehouse no matter who is elected. McCain will give us more of Bush. Obama and Clinton will give slightly less of Bush, but not much different from each other in policy.
The TONE of the Whitehouse is what may change with Obama, and that's why I favor him. "I'm not talking to Cuba unless they change first." (Clinton) This is sheer stupidity. Where would our labor negotiations go if conversations started this way?
Whoever posted this link --

Everybody should read this one.

.....oh man, Hillary is toast!
You should forward that link to everybody you know!
What a hypocrite!
Once again, that's:

Obama says the super delegates should reflect the will of the voters.
Clinton say "that will sort itself out."
Hmmm
Maureen, I've been following your posts here in Salon. Whenever I read one of them I smile, shake my head and am reminded of the phrase "Pearls before Swine". You obviously care a lot, but don't take these people too seriously. Most of these posters have probably never even been out of the country except maybe for the random week-end stay in the proverbial Caribbean Resort, tossing down tequilas. One of the earlier posts said something to the effect of "...move over Boomers, the Xers are taking over." Scary stuff. Methinks it's time to dust off my EU passport.
Cheers.
That was just so very obvious to me, knowing that she'd voted to send those soldiers to Iraq and has ceaselessly pandered to the hawks to shore up her "toughness" element. I do admit that it probably scored big points with people who are vulnerable to such brazen manipulation.
I just wish Obama would just come out and address what I happen to think is the most salient reason NOT to vote for the Clintons (PLURAL), and that is that she would absolutely guarantee another four years of gridlock. SHE IS MORBIDLY DIVISIVE. Seriously: think about it. We'd have deja vu all over again, with so many people - both Rebublican AND Democratic - not just refusing to work with her but actually sabotaging anything SHE wants. The very thought makes me nauseous.
All those people who deride the "Obamabots" are missing the point here. Putting the Clintons back in the White House would be a disaster. Bill would NOT be able to be reined in and it would be a nightmare of he said-she said and who's on first. Although I'm not swooning over Obama as so many of his detractors would like to think, I do believe he is the better choice by a mile.
