Hillary Clinton's Texas-size moment

All that mattered about the showdown in Austin was whether she could stop Barack Obama's momentum. Were her powerful closing words a magic bullet?

The letters thread is now closed.

Nader is a perfect choice for a screeching hate-filled miltitant ideologue Leninist. Why not go for the original?

Good luck!

Villemar - "hate-filled miltitant ideologue(s)"

Sounds like a bunch of Obama supporters or "friends" of Obama...Bill Ayers anyone?

smoking gun...not

“Sen. Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence,” said Obama’s press secretary, Bill Burton. “But he was an 8-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost 40 years ago is ridiculous.”

Try again, Villemar!.. You're trying to create a fog and failing miserably

Nobody has to go back to l983 to find out about Obama's sleazy connections. His property deals with Tony Rezko were most obvious in 2005 when Barack and Michelle got themselves a sweetheart deal from the Rezkos, who were political patrons of saintly Barack. Tony's trial begins in the first week of March. Why don't you keep up with the real news? All that incense wafting around Barack's picture can stir up a perfumed fog but it's only temporary. Maybe you've been to Katmandu or even Kalamazoo but it doesn't really matter because hard facts are nipping at your beloved right now. Why, 2005 is less than three years ago, Obama was elected to the US Senate in 2004 and, for a man with such lofty ambitions, a mansion was essential. Tony, his long-time buddy, took care of that and I hope Barack is grateful enough to send him flowers. It must be dreary being in jail and Barack owes Tony plenty.

try again anon

There have been no allegations that Obama, whose political fortunes are soaring as he mulls a run for president, broke the law or committed any ethics violations. He said he has done no government business with Rezko, who is facing charges in two unrelated criminal cases.

Arrogance

Even after Newsweek states that the quotes attributed to Hilary were false, Obama and his talking heads conitnue to use them in mailers against her. Is this the "Change" you're looking for? So Villemar, is Newsweek wrong here or just "misunderstood". Thanks for your advice but i'm actually looking for a thesis on hating honkies and your country. Know where I can find one?

John Anderson

It's not "government business" we're discussing here...Obama and Tony cooked up a crooked "personal" real estate deal that benefited "Obama and Michelle" directly...Nice to see Tony would do this without expecting anything in return...

hey anon here are your "facts"

all the Sturm und Drang you could hope for:

crooked personal real estate deal?

no ethics violations...no laws broken by Obama.

Are we all Karl Rove now?

All it seems to take is a quick link to a sleazy site and we all can personally swift-boat anyone we choose. And deny responsibility. After all WE didn't write it.

Fortunately, the capacity to critically evaluate these charges is also growing- we can quickly access and evaluate all the materials in question.

It seems to me that the question now if we can use our collective judgment to drag ourselves out of the sewer of swift boat innuendo and sleaze and toward substantiative discussion.

While this Salon forum is a bit discouraging, I pray that as we as a species can ultimately develop ethically to the point that we can actually use chat rooms constructively.

Fatal Attraction?

Jill Buton explains that Barack Obama was only 8 years old when Bill Ayers and his Weathermen were bombin and rioting. That's perfectly true and he was not even on the American mainland at the time. BUT the Harvard graduate, Barack Obama, was in his twenties when he decided Chicago would be a place where his career would prospe. A young lawyer such as he was at that time had to know about Bill Ayers and his violent past so what was it between these two (not forgetting Bernadine D) which made them get along so well that Ayers supported Obama for the State Senate? Obama was untouched by the Vietnam War because women were not drafted and his mother was an only child. The war scarred and destroyed many lives and the average age of the draftees was l9. It must have been nice for them to know, in the heat and gore of South-East Asia, that there was a pampered "intellectual" back home preparing bombs to kill other Americans. That pampered guy is Bill Ayers who now has a cushy university position and has been involved in the launch of Obama's career. Hillary Clinton shouldn't be surprised at the attempt to throw her under the bus because all she had to do was to find out how Barack and his supporters did it to Alice Palmer, who had been an active member of the Civil Rights movement in the 60s. Barack ticked all the boxes with Bill and Bernadine.

Ayers, Rezko....All "boneheaded"? What an admission for a clever lawyer and presidential candidate to make!

Regarding the Hillary Speech

To John Anderson - I did not watch that before thanks for posting it.

------------------------

Wow, "aid and comfort", "Karl Rove", "enough with the speeches and the rallies"..."meet me in Ohio..." and finally, shame shame shame...

Yeah, enough with those effective speeches and rallies, come onto my turf because I don't have any turf of my own...

I wouldn't blame Obama for cancelling the next debate. His wins came on his own, he owes Clinton nothing and it could turn into a very uncomfortable spectacle. It's not like she is some elder stateswoman of the Democratic Party, she is Bill Clinton's Wife.

That is the woman whose campaign claims, is all battled tested and vetted, and the Right Wing Machine is just All Tuckered Out by Ms. Clinton, Plum Exhuasted, and can't Possibly come up with any more mud to throw at her, the mud holes are empty. They are now ready to accept her into the Fraternity of Republican Brothers due to the sheer respect they hold for Ms. Clinton as she never gives up, never surrenders.

It's Fellow DEMOCRATS we need to watch out for!

You would think this is Ms. Teflon, the woman nothing stuck to.

It's almost painful to watch.
