Oh please, can we really, really just get beyond this? And no offense, DeeperTruth, but others in this thread have done a much better job of impersonating Mrs. Schneider, my 9th Grade english period school teacher. She was badass.

I am interested in the quality of ideas, not the "ownership" of the ideas and the words used to expressed them. A lot of our best ideas have come from the Greeks, Romans, and the Enlightenment and homegrown folks like Emerson and MLK. Not from politicians.

The candidate that will get my vote is the candidate that has the best ideas and the best chance of executing them. Stealing ideas in my book means that a leader is open minded and doesn't consider themselves to be the fount of all knowledge and wisdom. This notion that you must own your own words is b.s. If true, 99%+ of politicians would be mute. I don't think I would be able to post either.

Meanwhile, the Obama campaign is not about Oration. From the debate:

The central premise of this campaign is that we can bring this country together, that we can push against the special interests that have come to dominate the agenda in Washington, that we can be straight with the American people about how we're going to solve these problems and enlist them in taking back their government.

DeeperTruth: "You mean - the Clintons have made money for writing books and being hired for speaking engagements?"

You're the one who brought up the speaking engagements. I just wanted to point out that Hillary got a huge amount of money for her book deal as well, since you made it sound as though their main source of income was Bill's speeches.

    DeeperTruth: "They are "so" evil?"

Why is the word "so" in quotes there? Anyway, I didn't make any statement about whether any of this was unethical. I only pointed out the facts of the matter.

DeeperTruth: "But - there is nothing more base and evil and bad and wrong than books and speeches."

    If you say so!

DeeperTruth: " And advancements - they never happen to anyone else."

An $8 million advance is record-breaking. But again, I didn't say anything else about it. I was just pointing out that Bill's speeches aren't the only place the Clintons have made their riches.

DeeperTruth: "Please, can you be more ridiculous?"

I have no interest in trying to top you.

  • @ Lucid

I am amazed that you think that Senator Clinton is running on a feminist platform. To me, it is completely obvious that she is not. Please offer evidence either from her own statements or her website that indicate any such thing. That women who are feminists have debated the significance of her candidancy and taken sides, some of them endorsing her and some endorsing Obama, is no indication that Clinton herself is running a feminist campaign.

  • I am a Hillary supporter

There, I even put it in my subject line.

Hutman, doesn't it make sense that if I am a Hillary supporter, my posts will reflect that?

    Hello?

The point about Obama's words is that they are just words. And anyone can say them. They don't show or prove that he can do anything, other than speak well.

I don't even care about the technicalities of plagarism.

This is about words vs. reality.

If he gets elected, I hope he will be able to do more than speak well, but so far, I haven't seen much proof.

And that's just the way it is.

I know this will make you Obama supporters mad, but I know that Hillary knows what she's talking about, and could govern our country and help our economy most efficiently and effectively at this time. I do not know that about Barack. I think his administration would be disorganized, inefficient, and falter, and take a long time to get on it's feet and get anything done.

We'll just see how it goes if he gets elected, remember I said this! You heard it here first!

    Now I have to go...

    Take Care and

    Goodnight ~

  • a deeper truth

your candidate is in deep shit.

  • @ Xrandadu Hutman: Feminism And Sexism

You are absolutely shameless. And you know perfectly well that we (you and I) have had these discussions before, Hutman, in which I pointed out specifics: derogatory names and comments, innuendo, denial, dismissal, and outright lies --- used over and over and over again against Sen. Hillary Clinton. If you want or need another example, look on the same page as your "comment" to me and AKA Smith. Yet another poster (manos99) refers to Sen. Clinton as a "bitch".

That you don't grasp or acknowledge this as sexism -- at its mildest and misogyny at its worst -- tells me that you know nothing about feminism; or, what you do know is about enough to fit inside a sperm cell.

How old are you, anyway? 16? That's how you act on these boards -- like a 16-year old teenager who lacks respect for anybody and anything other than your ideas and perceptions of reality and truth. And the minute, THE MINUTE somebody confronts you with it, you throw a temper tantrum, calling people names and telling them to F*** Off, among other things.

You can't even let a plagiarism issue go when somebody has explained it to you over and over and over again. That isn't even ignorance; it's sheer stupidity.

What exactly are you so worried about in your candidate -- Barack Obama -- that you can't seem to hold a rational conversation about him, without turning it into a name-calling contest? What exactly do you fear so much about the possibility of a Hillary Clinton Presidency that you go out of your way to vilify and crucify her.

THAT IS WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE TALK ABOUT SEXISM!

How long will it take before you fit this into the doughnut hole that seems to be your brain?

I'd love to be proved wrong about you, Hutman. But so far nothing I have seen in your commentary has given me hope that it will happen. And therein lies the problem.
