@ libertyson, part 2
And please, for the love of God, do not bring perceived sexism into your decision to try and charge or defend students against this as you have Hillary. Otherwise no male student at your college stands a chance. And they wonder why the youth vote is riled up against the same old politics as usual?
Male students failed and passed in my classes at exactly the same rate as female students if both groups refused to revise. Female students did seem more willing to do certain things: Rewrite, actually attend class, hand in writing assignments, be on time, come to morning classes sober enough to comprehend the lecture.
However, one can also say the same thing about older students. By far, the best students were over 25 even though they often had children and full time jobs. Too many 18 year olds, both male and female come to college to party. The assumption that being 18 makes one ready for college is a rather silly one.
Certain students will always have a tougher time: Single parents, the addicted, the mentally or physically disabled, those who were passed along in high school despite not meeting the requirements, remedial students, students with learning disabilities. Life is tough for lots of people.
To me, the main reason that people flunk out is that they are not college material in the first place. They seem have been passed along in high school despite not meeting the requirements. Sometimes a few years in the working world matures them and they are actually ready to do the work of college.
People are not guaranteed a college degree no matter how much money they have to attend college. Generally, in most colleges, they have to earn one. That is not abusive. That is not discriminatory. That is as it should be.

People don't like reality
We'll see who's right about what, if Obama does get elected.
Then we will see just what will and will not happen and how.
Then we will see what people think.

Judgement
I have the feeling his comments about judgement are going to come back to haunt him.

Villemar, you worship the water that Senator "Present" walks upon but that's not a reason to insult everyone who disagrees with you.
You hate bats too? You should learn how useful they were in the development of radar but there is so much for you to learn about practically everything that it would be daunting. You write about stirring up discord but all you do is slutter childish insults at anyone who doesn't share your opinion. I suppose you think you're "liberal".
-
Sorry Villemar
You can't silence the truth...The Obama campaign slogan should be changed to "We were misunderstood" Or "We're almost proud of America" or "Change you can borrow"...
-
I'm sorry...you're all right and I'm wrong.
You're right, I'm wrong. If Senator Obama wins the nomination without providing footnotes and academic citations in his every verbal utterance from now until the end of time, I'm going to start a bloody riot in Denver, and work to see that he is brought to the Hague for crimes against Humanity. We must stop this un-footnoted Antichrist!!
Say it with me:
NO FOOTNOTES, NO PEACE!!!!!!
NO FOOTNOTES, NO PEACE!!!!!!
NO FOOTNOTES, NO PEACE!!!!!!

double puh-lease!!
Anyone who has been paying attention to the American political process over the past decade knows that voters decide whom to vote for based on huge generalities rather than substantive knowledge about the candidates. Al Gore was 'stiff' and 'boring.' W was 'likable -- someone you'd wanna have a beer with.' John Kerry was 'too polished -- inaccessible.' Give me a break. As someone who takes my responsibility as a voter very seriously, and who reads about the candidates' proposed policies/legislative records, pardon me if I get supremely frustrated that most of the populace makes that decision based on superficially-considered, from-the-gut crap. (This is the same populace that celebrates and laughs about adults not being smarter than a 5th grader, BTW).
Which, upon deeper analysis, illuminates for me why I'm so passionate about all of this, having observed Hillary's run for president. If you think gender politics aren't alive and well in this election, and in the vilification of Hillary over the past decade, I cry b#^%$#t. You've been smokin the wacky tobacky. As an educated woman in her 30s, I've been shocked and appalled by the hatred -- and I have to use the word HATRED -- levied toward Hillary by a lot of the public and the political commentators (the doughy and unlikable Chris Matthews in particular, who licks his nasty chops every time he talks about her demise). What a depressing portrait of where we are as a country in terms of women and power. So unfair!!! So many men AND WOMEN are cruel in their interpretations of women in power (especially if it's not the 'right kind' of powerful.) This is one for a lot of couch sessions and good introspection for them, if you ask me. And even if it's not based on hatred, a lot of men AND WOMEN instinctively prefer to vote for a man.
I can appreciate how difficult it must be for Hillary to figure out how to position herself to win at this game. And politics is a game. Make NO mistake. The electorate and the media make it that. But while Hillary is vilified for being a 'stop-at-nothing, vicious, backroom-gameplaying shark,' Obama is considered to be as lofty as a God. Neither of these interpretations is true. Clinton is a genuinely passionate pubic servant who is trying to figure out how to model herself to be chosen in this game. Obama, while also a passionate public servant, is no political rube. The fact that he ran for the presidency after such a short time on the national scene shows a lot of gumption, and I think it's quite revealing about him. If you think extraordinary personal ambition doesn't have a lot to do with it, and that he's not working this game in his own brilliant way, you're crazy. Anyway. That's all I have to say for now.
BTW, that egg you invited me to suck on was good. Yum! Thanks!!!!

To Villemar
I am worried. Are you having a nervous breakdown? This is such a small thing. So Obama plagiarized a little. No one will put him in jail. Many will forgive him. Can't you forgive him yourself? Everyone needs forgiveness.
This need not be the end of his candidacy. I predict he will go on. Who knows? He might even win.
ZORRO
P.S. I think the footnotes will be unnecessary.
