...my last post. I am feeding my neice. For my troubles I have mushy carrots all over sister's laptop. She is going to be so mad.
David Gergen observed after Thursday's debate that Hillary should change her message, because experience is a "leaden approach" that doesn't "get anybody excited."
Perhaps he's recalling Clinton I versus Bush I. Did you feel the same disdain re "flash over substance" when young Bill was running against an experienced incumbent?
Bill Clinton: We Need New Experience in Washington http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMlrSG1xb5k
Experience and qualifications should be the centerpiece of everyone's decision in who would be the best commander in chief.
Right out of the Republican playbook circa 1992. What I find interesting about this, however, is that Bush had an actual impressive resume, whereas Hillary is including a lot of reflected glory in hers. She and Obama and McCain have a similar lack of administrative experience, all being mere Senators.
You know what would be the most refreshing 'change?' If people stopped voting based on whom they'd rather have a beer with, and voted instead for the candidate who's the most substantively prepared to do the job.
I think a most refreshing change would be if people would start rejecting the type of oversimplified media crapola as that people voted for GWB because he was the type to "like to have a beer with". Was he indeed? I thought he was an overgrown frat boy, a son of privilege that had everything handed to him and when tested proved himself without the inner resources and ability to succeed -- and that was before he was anointed president.
Obama, on the other hand, impresses me with his success against long odds. This campaign is an obvious case in point. It's not about the speeches, it's about the man.
They're both senators, as is McCain. However, McCain and Obama were never married to a president. Is that a "qualification"?
You are truly going off your head when you call Hillary Clinton's supporters Nazi brawlers. I wouldn't go on too much about suicide bombers, Villemar, because HRC is not supported bay a dmestic bomber, Bill Ayers, a leading member of an underground revolutionary movement which attempted to bomb the Pentagon and was responsible for the deaths of American civilians. Obama is trying to distance himself from Ayers in the same way that he's pretending Tony Rezko was just a casual acquaintance but he will not be allowed to get away with this for much longer. Rove is smacking his lips.
...maybe the problem here is McCain supporters posing as Clinton "defenders". Online, nobody can see the color of your shirt!
Re: I wonder if the race would have turned out the same way that it has thus far if Obama were a black female and Hillary were a white male?"
Or what if Hillary were a highly qualified black man and Obama an unqualified white woman? If an unqualified white woman were running against a qualified black man, do you think Democratic party heavy weights like Ted Kennedy would endorse her? No way.
Women are over 50% of the population and underrepresented in all levels of government. Women have only had the vote since 1920. Hillary's candidacy is every bit as historic as Obama's, but the media try to play down that fact. Instead they make her seem like an incumbent, somebody who has already had her turn. Obama makes references to MLK in his speeches, but if Hillary quoted Gloria Steinem, Betty Freidan or Susan B. Anthony, all hell would break loose.
The media feeding frenzy on Hillary, calling her everything from a shrew to racist to a pimp, laughing when a heckler told her to "iron my shirts," criticizing her voice, her "fat ankles," saying that she only has her Senate seat not because she won two elections, but because her husband "messed around," calling her supporters little old ladies and racists, demanding since the New Hampshire primary that she drop out of the race, calling her "Billary" as though she's an appendage of her husband and not an individual, tells me that having a woman President is more threatening to the status quo than anything else.
They try to tell us that it's not about women, it's just Hillary. Nobody likes her. She's a B*tch. Well, guess what? Millions of voters across the country like her. And the media did the same thing to Geraldine Ferraro, trashing her in 1984 when she ran for VP.
And they tell us that Hillary is riding on her husband's coattails, as if any old former First Lady could be a viable candidate for President. And let's not forget all of the men who are second generation politicians like Dubya and Mitt Romney.
And why doesn't PBS ever show anything about how women got the right to vote? Why isn't there anything to commemorate it? This history isn't in any high school curriculum, that's for sure. And even in college, students won't learn about it unless they take a "women's studies" class, even though this is American history.
Sexism is alive and well and I don't see it going away any time because we aren't even allowed to have a discussion about it.
But I really don't care about hurting your widdle feelings when people like you pull Rovian scumbag shit like you've been doing. You're basically alleging that Barack Obama is a Weatherman sleeper agent, that Obama is a terrorist. (Not to mention that Bill Ayers never killed a soul).
Really, f&ck off. Rovian, Goebellesque, whatever you want to call it; it's disgusting. I ask you to please never vote for any Democrat ever again. We don't want your kind nor do we need you.
What country are you living in?
If Sen. Clinton were a true feminist she wouldn't be running on her husband's record. Then we would be left with:
-a certain amount of Democratic Party activism
-a failed attempt to pass health care reform as First Lady
-a not particularly distinguished record in the senate
Sorry, this doesn't do much for me.
One of them was Ayers girlfriend. Have you seen Ayers' mugshot yet. It's on the Internet but his appearance will have changed over the years. If you want to talk about Goebbels, why not, but it's you who's telling lies. Well, to give you the benefit of the doubt, maybe you just haven't a clue. His partner, Bernadine Dohrn, became a fugitive and was on the FBI's "most wanted" list. The Senator from Illinois has sure mixed in some strange company but maybe he was just "boneheaded". You're a very aggressive person but that does not help your cause.
