Hillary Clinton's Texas-size moment

All that mattered about the showdown in Austin was whether she could stop Barack Obama's momentum. Were her powerful closing words a magic bullet?

The letters thread is now closed.

@DAYONE -- and by the way, Congratulations to DAYONE on her very first post!

DAYONE is a brand new poster on Salon! What do you know! She just showed up spontaneously and dove right in! Well, bless her heart!

Hey, DAYONE? Please read the following article and get back to us:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/201332/807/36/458633

Then be sure to explain how Obama is so much less qualified than Hillary Clinton.

LOL

Dayone,

cute name. I see this is your first letter. Congratulations on picking Hillary's slogan as your tag. You know, Barack has plans to spend his first day in office just playing Nintendo, so it's a good thing Hillary's all ready to go.

Since you're new, and since your letter breathlessly repeats every single one of the Hillary campaign's latest talking points and tag lines, I'm going to guess that you are actually a campaign worker or volunteer, or a 52-year-old Omaha housewife who's decided to take things into her own hands.

Anyhow, it's too late, because Hillary is going to concede on March 5. Enjoy spamming on the Salon boards till then, Dayone, and remember to ask Hillary's people to pay you in cash, because she's been stiffing vendors all over the country!

Dear morons,

Dear morons,

Nice job trying to associate Obama with terrorists. Keep up the propagandic work, you pathetic scumbags.

Oh by the way, did anybody know that Hillary Clinton eats live babies? It's true! I read it on Wikipedia!

Anonymous at 5:57 a.m. You need to change your p.j.s as all that spittle is soaking through

The audacity of anyone who associates Obama with terrorists! I see what you're getting at. Domestic terrorists such as Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn were only pranksters but their victims didn't know that. Since nobody has mentioned the Binman (ObL) or any foreign influence, you are implicitly accepting that the "terrorist" in question is Bill Ayers. I'm sure that as you're blown to pieces by a bomb it doesn't really matter to you whether the terrorist is home-grown or not. Associating with Obama? Anonymous (you or other) stated that Obama and Ayers had dinner together but I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that Obama did'nt eat the dinner because he kept on thinking of all those mangled bodies. If Bernardine cooked it, she must have been very disappointed. The contribution to Obama's campaign was a nice gesture, I'm sure you'll agree.

Anonymous @ 5:06 a.m. I took your advice and did my own research. Bill Baar's West Side blog is interesting. I just googled Alice Palmer and it's that easy

Poor Alice was thrown under the bus by Senator Smoothy who was cultivating more important people in Illinois. He didn't see Alice any more after getting his place in the Illinois Senate although she had been his mentor, introducing him to Bill Ayer and Ms. Dohrn of Hyde Park. He had time to meet Tony Rezko and once again food was involved when they met twice a year. It sure is amazing that Obama can stay so slim with all these dinners.

Salon Editors: You should be ashamed

Why are you not monitoring this board?

These letters do not constitute intelligent discourse and do not contribute to anything but the promotion of hate and fear. This kind of debate festers and grows, as we've seen over the past few weeks when articles are published on the Democratic campaign.

And to those letter writers engaging in this uncivil debate, please harness your energy for something good. Go out and volunteer in your communities or use your voices to write to Congress. Anything is better than this war of words.

"THIE IS ALL WE KNOW AND ALL WE NEED TO KNOW / WILL WE HAVE / AMERICAN PRESIDENT: HILLARY / OR / ANERCAN IDOL: OBAMA"

what does this even mean?

you put down obama as "american idol" for the sin of inspiring tons of people to like him?

god forbid a lot of people should like the president and be moved to action.

bog forbid there would be 2X the turnout at democratic primaries as there is at republican primaries

god forbid anybody should think that obama would make a better president than "no we can't get a healthcare system" hillary, also known as "sure i'll authorize your vote to kill people in iraq, mr. bush, anything you want, mr. bush"

god forbid peole should make an intelligent decision based on facts and reasons that make sense

vote obama 2008

I ask again...

...I don't begrudge those of you who support Clinton the freedom to make your choice. However, I am irritated by the comparisons that laud her while diminishing the credibility of Obama. If one were to make a choice based on how effective they have managed their campaigns, Obama is clearly the better candidate. Clinton has run her campaign into the ground. If she couldn't manage the overwhelming advantage she enjoyed two months ago, or her finainces and staff, how can one assume she's be an effective president. She is obviously very bright and informed, but she has trouble organizing, planning, anticipating, responding well to the unexpected, picking out the best advice and advisors--it's like her healthcare disaster 15 years ago. She may be "experienced," but so was Nixon. If I decide to go with Mr. Obama, it is because of a clearheaded analysis of the two, not because I am swooning 'cuz he is tall and a good lookin' dude.

After March 4th, Hillary = Ralph Nader

You Hillary shills can post all your petulant and hysterical drivel all you want over the next week and a half. You can play Six Degrees of Separation with Obama and Vlad the Impaler all you want. Whatever, knock yourselves out.

But if your candidate doesn't win Texas and Ohio then it is over, whether you like it or not. Even Bill Clinton says its over if this happens. If she continues at that point, then she becomes Ralph Nader. Her whole campaign at that point becomes a suicide bombing of the Democratic Party.

If you think we're nasty now just wait and see what happens if she tries that. However, I feel she'll do the right thing, concede gracefully, and fight like hell to get an Obama victory in November. I think she's much more saner and practical than her scumbag strategists and her legion of online brownshirts.
