With all due respect, I don't think the Obama camp is trying to ressurect the plagiarism issue - it appears as if they're trying to end the conversation once and for all. Like in a "see? you can make the argument that Hillary just plagiarized...it's stupid, but you could. Let's move on now"
I kind of get that this plagiarism thing is a big deal for you, but I don't think it has much widespread traction. Much like how my distaste for Clinton really solidified over her treatment of Kerry with his "get (us) sent to Iraq" joke and how she demanded he apologize to the troops blah blah blah. Remember how she fell right in line with the Right Wing noise machine (who were trying to make it a wedge issue before the mid-terms) in order to not look weak on the military (or something...who knows). For me it showed a total disregard for Party Loyalty (and yes, I realize that America has a very different conception of Party than we do here in Canada...but it still seemed awfully self-serving)
I've mentioned this event a couple of times on these message boards, and nobody seems to have picked up on it (ie nobody has repeated it)...which I guess means it also has no traction (actually it means it has even less traction than the plagiarism story...but I digress). I guess my point is, we all have moments that crystallize our stances...it appears as if this one is yours, but you probably shouldn't think you can convince others of this.
cheers
Its amusing to read all the anonymous posts. They have so much to say and no intelligent way to say it. Now its gotten to the point there are SO MANY ANONS that they can't even be identified amongst each other!?? How's that for being under the sheet? If we removed the anons we'd have, like, 4 pages of posts!
HEY! STFU unless you have some balls and post without a cloak. Jeez.
"Then, with the careful geographical precision that is one of her political strengths, Clinton ended this riff by describing a wrenching visit to wounded soldiers at the Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio." Walter Shapiro
I don't want to get accused of plagiarism so props to you Mr.Shapiro.
When I listened to Hillary spout off this carefully rehearsed statement as if she had the questions ahead of time. I can only say, I hope, as she was watching the wounded she acknowledges she and most of congress are personally responsible for every wounded and dead soldier. I cringed just to hear it.
Asking someone to define their terms is a time-honored aspect of discourse. When people keep saying plagiarism, but they clearly have no idea what it is, then what is one to think.
Would you care to address my post about four pages back to saintzak in which I gave two sentences and asked him to tell me if the second is a plagiarism of the first?
Why do you think the Obama campaign wants to first declare a "silly season" and then keep the plagiarism issue going. To rational people, this would only seem to hurt Obama. You would think the less said the better. Therefore, in mentioning the Hillary "instance," it can only mean that the Obama campaign is perfectly willing to pander to the ignorance of supporters whom they depend upon to spread this particularly manipulative, cold, calculating falsehood.
This would lead logical people to assume that at least many Obama supporters are (pick one):
1. Ignorant.
2. Cynically willing to support their guy even when they know he is being cynically manipulative.
3. Entranced.
If it is the latter, I suspect the cure is coming. It always does.
give me your home numer so I can discuss my new "Handle" with you or should I look up MaddieP in the phonebook...
You sound a lot like I did the LAST time the left was doing this; foisting an unviable candidate on us to lose big while the GOP snickers.
I'm tired of it. I'm not voting. I dislike Obama's campaign, his rabid and ignorant supporters and if he somehow DID get elected, which he won't, it would STILL be a disaster. He'd be so ineffective that the right would run againt him for the next 20 years like they did Carter.
I mean it's great really, to talk about how you'll give 4000 bucks to a college student (is that even books and two classes at a state university anymore) in exchange for 2 years of pubic service (somethng tells me there won't be too many takers) but if you can't possibly get it passed in a split congress and can't get it in the budget than it amounts to a pipedream. His entirey candidacy is a pipe dream of pie in the sky without any regard for the reality of how Washington works.
And I don't do pipedreams anymore.
will there be a "present" option on the ballot this year?
or should I look up MaddieP in the phonebook...
LOL too funny. I always find the sacrosanctimonious demands for full disclosure from people posting under alias like magpie and grasshopper and socialistwigs to be just hysterical!!!
Am I the only one who's completely amazed that Hillary, of all people, would be wielding charges of plagiarism against anyone? I mean, first of all Patrick gave the line to Obama and encouraged him to use it - it's not like it was stolen. Hard to see how that's "plagiarism", especially since politicians use speechwriters, um, every single freaking day. I mean, do you think Reagan came up with that shining city on the hill crap? No, that was Peggy Noonan, and she was nicely paid for her efforts.
Beyond that though, Hillary hired a ghost writer to produce her book "It Takes A Village", then took credit for the finished work herself. The woman who wrote it even got paid over $100,000, but Hillary refused to share any credit. So Hillary puts her name on an entire freaking BOOK that was ghostwritten, then turns around and has the nerve to jump on Obama's case for using a couple of phrases GIVEN to him by his friend Patrick?
This woman and her circle of sleezebag corporate advisers represents everything that is wrong with politics in America today, as much as Bill O'Reilly, Karl Rove, Ann Coulter and all the other nutbag noisebags. Now, instead of talking about real issues which impact real Americans, we're all talking about some bullsh*t some hack in the Clinton campaign just made up.
