All the remaining 2008 contenders -- except Barack Obama -- indulge in an artery-busting blue-collar orgy of fried fish, bratwurst and cheese.

  • Serious question for HRC supporters

Not trying to be an a-hole, I am genuinely looking for an answer to this question:

What are Hillary Clinton's signature achievements in government?

This is a simple question, I'd appreciate a frank answer. I keep hearing how she's the "experienced" candidate and that while Obama can talk about change, "she's actually done it." But I can't think of a single significant bill she introduced or sponsored or was a major advocate for during her time in the Senate.

I know she was able to survive a rabid Republican attack machine while First Lady (no small feat, certainly), but I can't recall anything she actually achieved in that role beyond just surviving.

Am I missing something? I feel like I must be, because everyone seems to take the "proven" and "experienced" stuff at face value.

AnaHadWolves: "The bottom line about Obama? In the opinion of many, he's simply not ready for the job."

So who's paying you to write this lame stuff? "In the opinion of many..." You do realize that you're just ascribing thoughts and opinions to a bunch of unattributed phantoms?

I think Obama is more than ready for the job. I think Hillary Clinton is not nearly as ready for the job as her supporters like to claim she is.

There seems to be this assumption among Clinton supporters that the presidency should be hers because she got in line first. It's like people are angry that Obama "cut" in line. It's ridiculous.

AnaHadWolves: "He's too inexperienced, too naive and too unrealistic about the world, the nation and the situation we face in the years to come."

Actually if you listen to him speak at length about foreign policy issues, the economy and all sorts of other issues, you realize he's got a keen grasp on the difficult realities of many real-world problems, and he also has very good ideas about how to approach them productively. You might actually listen to the guy talk instead of holding your hands over your ears and then running home to crib Hillary campaign talking points so you can repetitively spew them all over Salon.

AnaHadWolves: "While I don't like the Republican choice(s), at least I feel like a grown-up would be in charge, should they win."

Who's your daddy? You actually think McCain is more of a "grown up" because he's old? The guy who thinks it's OK to joke around and sing "bomb Iran" is a grown up? You have strange standards for what constitutes maturity.

AnaHadWolves: "And, I repeat: the constant nasty and negative drum-beat against Hillary by the Obama supporters is turning many/most of us off."

Yet by any objective assessment of these message boards, the vast majority of the negative stuff is coming from the Clinton supporters. You are a prime example. Every single message you write is a bunch of attacks on Obama. How is that not a negative drum beat? This is your tactic: First you do X, then you accuse the others of doing X. I think/hope/pray most people are too smart to fall for your tactic there.

AnaHadWolves: "Referring to those of who don't care for Obama as "racists" isn't helping your cause, either."

Nobody refered to "those of who [sic] don't care for Obama as 'racists'." You brought up racism to begin with. Then you claimed people were calling other people "Uncle Toms." This is all your own doing. You WANT to bring racism accusations into the conversation to make things uglier. That is YOUR motive.

AnaHadWolves: "I'm obviously not the only one who feels this way; yesterday, I received a "Democrats For McCain" solicitation spam e-mail. Go figure."

Yeah really -- go figure that the person who is unleashing the most spam propaganda nonsense on Salon (now that Cythera45 was kicked off for incredibly nasty pro-Hillary messages) is also karmically receiving spam in his/her own email.

AnaHadWolves: "I'd say you have a lot of fence-mending to do, should your candidate win the nomination...but, I don't believe there's enough wood available to accomplish that task."

Ha, so clever. Obama is actually striving very hard to be a fence-mender in his approach. Most of the fence-kicking seems to be coming from his opponents.
