For some reason, Mike Huckabee is still running for president. Is he really auditioning for the No. 2 job -- or a show at Fox News?

  • Call?

I am not a Huckabee supporter. I'm for Obama. But does anyone consider that Mr. Huckabee feels he has a call to run? As in a religious call? People of faith from all political perspectives can respect that even when we don't agree with the policies.

  • Greed could be a good explanation

Just consider what Pat Robertson was able to milk out of his 1988 primary run.

I see a very lucrative future for Huck as the right wing religio-political intercessor in a field where the current stars are fading (Robertson, Dobson) or dying outright (Falwell).

  • Huckabee isn't helping Obama; he's helping McCain.

Posing as if the most fundamentalist element of the right is "holding out" on McCain helps pick up those independents that are leaning to him with Hillary out of the picture even the more so.

Once again moveon.nutz demonstrates an inability to see past their own emotional bigotry. Truly it's a pity they wasted all that money Soros gave them to lose elections instead of taking elementary logic courses for every last one of them.

  • What about the war on terrorists?

"As long as the race stays friendly, few Republicans see much harm in Huckabee's sticking it out a bit longer."

Mitt Romney's statement to CPAC that he dropped out because the US is "...In a time of war..." implied that sticking it out a bit longer in the race hampers the "War on Terror" and this country's safety.

Why don't many Republicans other than the few referred to above see harm in Huckabee hampering "the war effort" by staying in the race?

Of course Mitt is simply full of it. He was instructed by the Republican establishment to make his absurd "time of war" statement as the initial beating of the war drum, the means by which the Republicans once again plan to win the presidency. Expect a lot more fear mongering to come.

  • Yes, w're being soooo unfair to Huckabee....

Last time I checked "liberals" weren't the ones trying to change the constitution to deny our fellow Americans equality under the law!

  • What a waste of people's donations!

He admits he can't do the math. He's still likely counting on his miracle. Maybe he thinks before the convention God will call McCain "home". In such unfortunate event, the GOP would be wise to nominate Romney and leave Huck waaaaay off the ticket.

  • Time and convictions

Why is Mike still in the race? I can simply be this - there are people who conclude that he is still the best man in the race for the 2008 Republican Presidential primary.

As for Virginia, it can be argued that Mike ran out of time. Which is something that has been digested by the brain trust for the remaining 20 some States who hold a primary or caucus.

  • Miracles

"I didn't major in math, I majored in miracles"

Wow, I bet that really comes in handy in budget meetings.

  • Money First, Faux News or Religious TV Program

What the national media and most outsiders don't know is the huckster is a shill. He cares about nothing but money. If he could get it, obviously he'd take the VP slot but he knows he will not be asked. Next best thing is to become the next Tom Delay, et al for Faux news. Third best and most likely he hooks up with some good old time religious TV network. That is his best shot at priming the till without having to constantly explain all of his doofus remarks, plus it is much easier to hide from the IRS all those good time donations given by all those doofus lovers. It also puts him in the position to become the next big force for the religious right, in four years he could pull a lot of political weight or with a much more organized effort and cash run again. If you really want to gain a little perspective on this nitwit you should check out the Arkansas Blog on the Arkansas Times website.

  • There is no Mike Huckabee

My theory on Huckabee's candidacy: There is no "Mike Huckabee". He's actually just a character being played by Kevin Spacey (close your eyes and listen to him speak - you know it's true!), and the whole thing is being filmed for a mockumentary to be aired this fall on the Sundance channel. Like "Tanner '88" for those old enough to remember that gem. He will stay in the race until filming wraps. Then its back to cruising in London.

  • God works in mysterious ways...

Huckabee has a right to continue the fight. He is probably increasing the turnout at the Republican primaries.

Besides, what if God told him he would be President? God works in mysterious ways, as Huck knows very well. The idea somebody suggested in a prior posting is feasible: being the VP to an old and tired McCain could very well hand the Presidency to Huckabee.

That is one reason many of us, as much as we look forward to the day Bush is not longer president, have wished him health and a long life to finish his term.

  • I have some advice for Huckabee and all candidates in general

If you're not a supporter of marijuana law reform, then please STOP USING MUSIC THAT WAS WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY MARIJUANA USERS in your campaign.

It's sending a kind of weird, tortured message when you're trying to inspire Middle America to continue the war against weed but you can't inspire them without playing music that was written on weed.

Go out and find some popular music that was written by people who didn't use marijuana -- if you can, that is.

This country is so blind to itself, it's tragic.

  • Huckabee as long-term candidate

As Governor of Arkansas, Huckabee was known for his thin skin, refusal to work with the Legislature, streaks of pettiness, alacrity at stealing credit for the ideas of others, lack of interest in the hard work of governing, and ethical blindness in his willingness, even eagerness, to accept gifts. On the positive side, in spite of his recent personal repackaging as a conservative stalwart, he did managed to support legislation to pump money into education, health care for children, raise taxes, etc.

He is a smooth, sharp, and accomplished speaker, particularly if real content is irrelevant. He has a good wit when it doesn't dip to bathroom humor, something he often cannot resist. No candidate, not even Ronald Reagan, has been the performer/entertainer Huckabee is, media ready from the first day of office. We always said the most dangerous spot in America was to be between Mike Huckabee and a television camera. He's loving the attention--and it's also fueling his finances. He's having the time of his life. As long as others are willing to pay for it, he'll stay in. Though I'd hope McCain had better sense, VP would be the job of a lifetime for Huckabee--big house, few responsibilities, constant platform for personal attention.
