Clinton gets her party started

Wins in Massachusetts, California and other big states, plus an uncommonly good speech by their candidate, made a New York Super Tuesday crowd very happy.

The letters thread is now closed.

one more thing...

To the guy trumpting Obama's great win in Missouri I have a couple of points to make. One percent is not a landslide,Missouri got it wrong when Eisenhower beat Adali Stevenson and if you look at the map Obama won the urban centers and the University towns but Hillary swept ALL of the rural counties.I never thought I would live to see the day that good ole boys were happily supporting a woman and they turned out in big numbers!

The Czarina

Hey, I happen to think Obama would make a better president than Hillary, in part because I am a gamer and therefore view her as being something of a fool after the Hot-Coffee controversy, in part because I don't respect Hillary's decision on Iran, in part because I feel that a president who accuses other countries' leaders of being soulless is not going to work very well at getting those other countries to cooperate without the threat of violence.

That said, I don't think "Don't vote Hillary she can't win." The same thing can be said of any other candidate, as the old song goes "Every hand is a winner, and every hand is a loser."

I second (or third) Jaben's post...

"If You Folks Do Nothing Else Today, Read --Jaben's Post Here

Wow!

Both Clinton and Obama are lawyers. But the Editor of the Harvard Law Review (Obama) those 15 or so years ago is a heavyweight legislator. By contrast we see a lightweight legislator in Hillary Rodham Clinton.

My God, what a contrast!

-- Ron Smith"

The "unsettling" thing for me about Hillary (to borrow other Hillaryites) since the 1st. day she took office as senator has been this snow-job she's been laying on us about her "experience" over other candidates. She's a lightweight in the senate compared to Obama.

Since we are talking about defining moments, I'll give you mine own moment in regards to Hillary: on the day of 9/11 during a press conference on the footsteps of the Capitol Building, she just about started running for cover just as the other Congressmen/women and Senators started singing God Bless America (or some shit)...so then she slowly creeped back into the picture...and started singing along. Which kinda looked cowardly to me, at a time when we didn't need to see that in our politicians.

Okay, so you probably all think this is pretty minor or pointless as a reason for voting for Obama. And true, it's not like GWB was any less cowardly, or half of DC for that matter...but it kinda tainted my image of her, and she hasn't really recovered it since then...seeing as how she voted for the war and all...

And Christ, if somebody is going to vote for Hillary because Obama isn't saying anything about the Jews in Israel (see article), then I think my reason for voting AGAINST Hillary is certain not any less petty.

BTW, I'm VERY disappointed in Salon's fawning coverage over Hillary as opposed to Obama...Rebecca's "article" is proof of the one-sided-ness of Salon's support for Hillary. And if that keeps me from getting a neat little red star by my post, then so be it!

the only numbers you need to know

11 million to 6 million.

that's the number of democrats that voted yesterday compared to the republicans. and if you think there's so many more because of clinton, you're fooling yourself.

show me

the "Omen" - I just wanted to make the point that out of

the last 26 times the "Show me State" Missouri 25 times picked the winner of the Democrats isn't that a great "Omen" for

Obama!

NOWHERE did I say that HRC can't win in the general election

What I am saying is that she will have to switch gears running against McCain since she can't honestly say she has more experience than him. It's just not true, it's been her big calling card, and she'll need something else this fall. It can't be Iraq or immigration, because he'll trump her in both cases. It has to be the economy---she better come up with something dynamite soon.

Another concern for me is that while the Dem race is great and exciting and good for those of us who want a choice, it is going to go on for quite a bit longer. In that time, McCain will start running for the fall, building a war chest, and enjoying the dog fight. Whoever wins will have to hit the ground running big time. And they're both pretty damn tired right now.

Furthermore Jaben -- you're not being honest

Furthermore, you do what other Obama-ites do, which is fudge Obama's "legislative" history. He was in a state senate, not the U.S. Senate till recently. Senator Clinton was a junior senator, representing her state and did just that.

I for one am in mourning because I don't see how HRC pulls it out. But I'm celebrating big loss for Kennedy's (Edward, Patrick, Caroline, Shriver) who did all they could to steal Massachusetts and California and failed. My favorite side of the Kennedy family -- Bobby's -- was right there. (Though of course the other side may have helped boost Obama's momentum, and no one has mentioned the Edwards factor, how that might have played to obama's favor.)

I agree with Honor Moore...

I think things are so complicated and unpleasant that the idea of an inspiring leader who can erase all these conflicts, rather than go through and deal with them, is very appealing," she said. "It's a way of blanking all the problems out. It's a wonderful idea, but it just doesn't work.

Honor is exactly right. The Democratic Party, by nature, is about flight, not fight. Hillary Clinton by her very presence in this race (after 16 years of being a Republican punching bag) represents America's ability to embrace a fight.

So America has a bunch of problems, and there are people who think that by his very existence that Obama is going to end racial inequality, partisianship, and get schooled by his advisors on the rest.

Like I said before, Obama is a rockstar, a celebrity, a preacher, and the Great Black Hope all rolled up into one. Once before folks voted for a cowboy, an airforce pilot, and the guy we could have a beer with, and we now see how bad the results were of that.

Clinton does not invoke warm fuzzies, but she's a sure thing. At this point America can't afford to gamble.
