Will the votes get counted fairly?

Two things worry me about (1) Are the votes already submitted

going to be verified?

(2) How many Diebold machines are going to be used today?

I have a feeling that the votes already submitted are going to

favor the Clinton machine whether they were actually cast that

way or not. And as we've seen in NH, districts using Diebold

machines have a mysterious way of favoring the "in crowd".

You missed one

Hey, What about Alaska? We have at least one delegate up for grabs here today. Maybe that will be the one to put Obama and Ron Paul over the top.

Super Tuesday Question for you guys...

Let's say you're a Democrat (hypothetically, of course). Is there any reason in a state that doesn't require registration with a particular party to vote in the primaries (like, say, oh , I dunno...Virginia?) that you shouldn't vote in the REPUBLICAN primary if you care more about the outcome of that one than the Democratic primaries? Let's say you're fine with Obama or Clinton and don't care much either way, but you really don't want a President Huckabee.

Is there a compelling reason not to go to the Republican primaries and cast your vote accordingly?

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 11:55 AM

@SalilM

Yes, if you are Democrat, there is compelling reason not to vote in th Republican primary: BECAUSE YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT!

I don't want Republicans picking my nominee, why should have a say in picking theirs? There will be time for me to chime in about the GOP, in November.

Actually, this is a TIE

And, even more important, Obama will win in the fall. Latest poll, Washington Post reported Sunday had McCain beating Clinton, 49-46, and Obama beating McCain 49-46. That's a 6 point advantage for Obama. And his advantage will only increase as more voters get to know him.

Did you even look at the margins of error for those polls? What you have there is NOT a win for Obama, NOT a 6 point advantage. It's a three-way tie. Those six points are statistically insignificant, and what those polls says is that, as of today, the race in November is entirely up for grabs no matter which Democrat wins.

Super Tuesday

What happened to Missouri in your incredibly thorough appraisal.

Yes, Obama = Cotton Candy

Indeed, it's telling that he's getting all these JFK comparisons when JFK had no real substance either. What did Kennedy accomplish? The Peace Corps and getting a man on the moon (and sending more troops to Vietnam). LBJ, on the other hand, got Medicare, the Civil Rights Act, and the Voting Rights Act through Congress. You can say that JFK would've gotten a civil rights bill passed, but in fact, he did get one passed, the Civil Rights Act of 1962, and it was worthless. Kennedy's campaign promises were also just a bunch of glittering generalities. His campaign slogan was "getting America moving again," a phrase which he'd repeat ad nauseam in the debates and his stump speeches - as if America wasn't "moving" in the 50s, and as if he had any plans to get us "moving." It's the same with Obama. He talks about this massive change, and his policies are all incremental fixes.

Can someone please tell me why to vote for Obama?

I'd like to know what the hell he stands for, besides "hope."

He's the next Jimmy Carter and 4 years of Jimmy equaled 8 years of Reagan. Do we really want to go there?

Oh, and by the way, does he really think that endorsements from Oprah and Ted Kennedy help?

Oprah? Like I give a shit if some fat talk show host asshole who must have the stupidest people in the world as viewers likes him? Give me a break.

And Ted Kennedy? One word: Chappaquiddick.

And for all of you bashing the Clintons, why don't you save the anger for where it belongs. The Bush administration.

Hillary may be a centrist but I'll take half-measures over complete incompetence.

anyonymous, however much the clinton campaign pays you

its too much.

Tuesday, February 5, 2008 02:12 PM

I guess Missouri and New Mexico don't count...

And based on US Census information, 29% of Arizona is Latino, while 44% of New Mexico is Latino. But between this article and Farood's posting this afternoon, I guess NM doesn't count.

I hope that means my vote this afternoon isn't going to be wasted.

Farhad

Sorry for butchering your name, I get really frustrated when NM gets the shaft in Salon.

WAY TO DUCK THE QUESTION OBAMAITES

anyonymous, however much the clinton campaign pays you

its too much.

Thanks Dolores,

good answer. I ask you why I should vote for Obama and all you give me is a stupid comment. I guess stupid people make stupid comments and cast stupid votes.

So I'll ask someone else. Why vote for Obama? And PLEASE don't tell me why Clinton is bad - THAT'S JUST WHAT THE REPUBLICANS HAVE ALWAYS DONE YOU MORONS! - Tell why Obama is good. I'm willing to listen but all I hear from Mr. Oprah's candidates is why HRC is so bad.

Do you even know who is President?
