A vote for Hillary is no surer a bet than a vote for Obama.
In fact it is the far dumber bet - you are betting that America is less sexist than racist, and that Clinton's high negatives with the young, the old, the conservatives and the liberals will be somehow better than the negatives Obama arouses amongst the white sheet crowd.
A Hillary-Obama ticket.
The option? The Super Delegates would be smart to align with the candidate that has the highest popular delegate count absent extraordinary circumstances that could be sold to the voters. I don't think such extraordinary circumstances would exist here given that both are good general election candidates.
As an Obama supported, generally speaking, I dunna like some of what I am reading; it is true that, to me, the article paints Obama supporters as race-obsessed lunatics.
Saying the Clinton's brought race up is catagorically wrong. As I previously had said, JJackson Jr was out early saying the most ridiculous and overt of race baiting things (e.g. Hillary didn't cry at Katrina, which needs to be looked at 'in light of South Carolina' and it 45% black voting populace). Moreover, one quote suggested Clinton was scapegoating latinos and trying to pit them against each other. Now, WHY would HClinton want to scapegoat latinos, given that she is, according to the talking heads and / or stereotype, winning by a big margin among this Cali population. And even if she WAS, how would this help her win any votes from Obama. It doesn't make any sense and is clearly the byproduct of a warped mind.
If I didn't know any better, I dare say parts of this could close in on a hatchet piece for Obama. Joan, why the fixation on race? While I know this is a topic much on your mind, does it not seem a tad overblown? It reminds me of the SC primary. I had ben napping and came to as the pundits sat discussing how they, the media, may have played up race in the election. The conversation ended with an admission of guilt.... amazingly follwed with a county by county breakdown of racial make-up.
Disgusting. I am not against an acknowledgement of race... but truly disgusting.
The whole superdelegate (SD) system creeps me out, since it is basically a kill switch or emergency brake on the election process within the party meant to stop insurgent candidacies from winning. "Whoa, too much democracy -- superdelegates, save us from our voters!!!"
I think the Democratic Party leadership should be largely pilloried for their capitulations over the years, and for watering down and gutting the Democratic Party platform, leaving poor-, working-, and middle-class Americans without real representation in DC. If the SDs try to derail Obama, what a disaster for the Democratic Party! Then again, they'll get what they deserve if they do it, because they'll lose, and the Democratic Party will suffer an ironic finish.
As for Clinton, Hillary Clinton should really be in the Supreme Court -- there, insulated from popular opinion, her brilliant legal mind could be put best to work, and in the company of the RATS (Roberts, Alito, Thomas, and Scalia) Clinton can appear a flaming liberal. It would be a good place for her, where charisma and popularity wouldn't matter, and where her intellect and determination would reap big dividends for the country. Hell, get Bill Clinton in there, too. With a Democratic majority in Congress, and Obama in the White House, it could be done.
We have to get the Florida and Michigan delegates seated, regardless of what was agreed to beforehand.
Dear Anonymous:
Okay, so now we have an anonymous hint about "Keith." Since I don't watch network news anymore, why be so coy about it? Spit it out. Did Obama shoot-up with Keith? (Obama has denied heroin I recall. He has admitted to pot and I believe some "blow" which I translate to cocaine)Did he deal Keith? What year(s) are we talking about it?
Hillary claims to be vetted. Okay, vet Obama, vet him now. Tomorrow may be too late. Had he been "vetted" earlier and its as bad as you say, my candidate (Edwards) might still be in the race.
My late oldest brother (by 15 years) was an Air Force officer. From about 1950 to 1960, he tried to convince his kid brother that we had to attack the USSR before the USSR attacked us. He knew things he couldn't tell me. In 1960, I got a "Secret" security clearance and it's about that time the preventive war stuff stopped. During the Cuban Missile crisis in 1962, Curt LeMay tried to instigate World War III by flying SAC planes straight for USSR and then pulling back at the last minute.
If you have an atom bomb on Obama, drop it. If you don't have an atom bomb, drop it. Either way, drop it. You owe it to Salon readers not to be coy.
Otherwise, you can get crossed-off as just another Hillary flunkie trying to dirty Obama by innuendo. Is your last name Penn, anonymous? Why do you prefer to dish dirt anonymously?

Joan,
Thanks for a wonderful summary of both campaigns and for your keep observations. I do think the most ironic and iconic photo of the whole campaign is Obama with Oprah, the plutocrat, and the two Shriver aristocrats. This I guess is the new populism. The Hamptons crowd telling us how to vote, and somehow it has been twisted to be multicultural populism.
Man, my old lefty bones are creaking. I am with Bob Dylan: " You got to serve somebody."
We're not hearing anything at all about lesbian support for Hillary Clinton, in California or anywhere else. Is there ANY doubt that lesbians support their princess 100%? No. But we don't hear anything about the lesbian vote because gay women are practically INVISIBLE.
Democratic machine politics aside, the progressive, non-violent and independent wings of the party support Obama. Unless you happen to be lesbian. In that case, bring on the 1990s.
