Kerry didn't fight them. Obama will be lofty too. Hillary's got brass knuckles.
Grow a pair.
Yes, CA as well as every other state has been adding Independents and DTS (declines to state) voters at a rapid pace. I wonder how many of those are due to Lou Dobbs urging people to re-register as Indy's and what that might mean for the vote in CA and nationwide?
"Grow a pair?" "The republicans are pussies?"
You really seem to be obsessed with genital imagery as it pertains to strength. You might want to see somebody about that.
Let me put it this way, you don't play into your enemies' hands by giving them the conflict that they want. You fight the battle on your terms, maximizing your advantages while minimizing their strengths.
If GW Bush had actually paid attention to this rather simple strategic idea, we would not have helped Bin Laden recruit a whole new generation of extremists by giving him exactly the fight he wanted.
GROW A PAIR.
A young sweet talking "uniter". Let's "woo" people. Let's tip-toe around their base.
Give me this much. If that doesn't work we put Hillary up next time and fight.
When I spoke to [Newsom] at the Orpheum in San Francisco on Friday, he zeroed in on healthcare and Obama's refusal to mandate that everyone somehow acquire health insurance. "'Universal' healthcare is crucial, and that's what makes it universal -- that's just fundamental," Newsom said.
Anyone who has been following California's health care reform bill might note an irony here. One of the real sticking points has been whether to force the uninsured to pay, and how. What are you going to do? Garnish poor people's wages on behalf of the insurance industry? Put a lien on their houses? Send them to jail? As Obama points out, people WANT insurance, but they can't afford it. Those of us without insurance choose our risks as best we can with limited resources. Many programs designed to expand availability, like COBRA, are often too costly to be attainable. So, we takes our chances. Rent versus premium.
Newsom and Clinton are more wrong than Obama here. By "more wrong" I mean that I agree that eventually we have to cobble together a system that does have some sort of mandate for individual coverage for everyone--including the healthy-wealthy. But as California is finding out, the tendency right now is to protect the insurance industry, protect employers and give them incentives, because they have the power-lobbies on this issue. An individual mandate in these conditions, without a single government payer, is pointed directly at those of us on the bottom. It would simply be a program to take money (particularly) from the lower-middle-class and give it to corporations and the wealthy.
"Hillary may win the nomination due to some chicanery with Michigan, Florida and the Super Delegates however this will only dampen those democratic voters who are already on the fence about her and completely reaffirm what the independents and moderate republicans think about her."
Wait just a minute. What happens if she wins without what you refer to as "chicanery?" And when push comes to shove, I don't think the DNC or the RNC will penalize Florida - not unless they want to lose. Remember, the popular vote gets you nothing. Most Democratic voters I know will vote for the nominee - even if they have to hold their noses. (I've done it my whole life.)
As for independents and moderate republicans - they don't count in red or blue states. And we don't know how they'll vote in a state such as OH and FL. And let's not forget, McCain has his own baggage. Keating Five. Drug embezzling wife. Adultery with female subordinates while on active duty. Ignorance on the economy. Mentally unstable. Volcanic temper. The list is long.
I am thinking that you don't have a pair and this bothers you. Just a guess.
Anyway, I will put the GOP record up on presidential elections and their record against Hillary (how's that health care reform that she got through working for you there, W.E.S. Ohhhhh that;s right, she didn't get it done did she) up against the democrats any day. I mean they got a functionally retarded guy elected to the presidency - twice!
So I am not saying we have to be nicer. I am just saying we have to be smarter.
Person we got.
Too.
Since you mentioned the joy you got from Hillary's initial shot at health care being rejected.........How are we now from that? Better or worse?
Oh if Hillary wins fair and square so be it. Personally, I don't think she can get elected dog catcher in half this country (including Ohio and Florida) but if she's the nominee then I will vote for her just like I voted for Dukakis in 88. Mmmmmmm Dukakis, now there was a good idea.
I think the issue with McCain will have exactly the opposite of Hillary's problem. The GOP base will not turn out for him unless there is a giant reason to (i.e. Hillary). Hell, the crazies are actively campaigning against him already.
As far as his issues, he has actually done a pretty good job of dealing with them but lets look:
1. Keating 5 - He fessed up and did his straight talk thing. And this is what he owes his devotion to campaign finance reform.
2. His wife - Personally, if she has a problem with addiction, I am not sure going after her would be the smart thing to do. She might cry and get the women's vote.
3. His adultery - If Hillary is the nominee, you'd best stay the hell away from this one for obvious reasons.
Where you hit McCain is on his tax policies. The GOP folks hate him because he voted against GW II's insane tax cuts in a time of war. The Dems hate him because now, in order to get elected, he is saying that he wants to extend them.
And you hit him on the war and his stated belief that we could be there for another 100 years. One simple question:
"where are the troops coming from" and Once simple answer: "a draft" and McCain is toast.
Even if he says he would not support a draft he still has to explain where the troops are coming from and once you raise the spector he is done.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
