Ali used the rope-a-dope strategy against the younger and ferociously powerful George Foreman in a championship fight 2 or 3 decades ago.

Ali laid on the ropes, his arms and boxing gloves covering his face, and allowed Foreman to pummel away at his body for 2 1/2 minutes of the 3 minute rounds. In the last thirty seconds of the round, Ali turned aggressor and landed significant blows to his arm weary opponent until in round eight, with less than thirty seconds remaining (if memory serves me), the older, shrewder Ali landed a viscious right cross to the chin of the exhausted Foreman and knocked him out. (Foreman later called himself the "dope" in the rope-a-dope strategy of Ali.)

The questions with Rudy's use of this strategy are (1) has he thrown any punches at all in the earlier rounds to show the judges (voters) that he's still in the fight and (2) does he have a knock-out punch left in him to win Florida.

So far, he has not shown in any way that he has the Greatness and the mental and physical firepower of the Champion Ali.

His only hope, it seems, is that his other two opponents knock each other out.

Aside from that, I am one of those New Yorkers who can't stomach Rudy or Judi. I lived for eight years under his reign. The drop in crime during his administration was due to many things -- William Bratton's ComStat for one thing; the legalization of abortion in the 1970s and NY's decision to allow Medicaid to pay for abortions is another reason, but you're not allowed to talk about that abortion thingy. It squicks out both the left and the right.

One of the letterwriters said that Giuliani was despised in five boroughs, but that's not true. Staten Island loved Rudy and gave him his second term. They still love him there. There are pockets of Brooklyn and Queens where he is popular, but Staten Island is a bastion of RudyLove. Lawn Guylanders love Rudy too -- I had to move here a few years ago and have been continually amazed at the extent of Lawn Guyland Rudy worship. Who knows, maybe he could have taken a close second in New York.

I wholeheartedly agree that McCain is the man to beat in this election.

Giuliani, is a jerk and I have no problem seeing his campaign go down in flames. Still, in one sense it is unfortunate his primary strategy didn't work. If he won in Florida, the entire GOP primaries would be essentially restarted, putting a dent in the exalted status of the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primaries. Why two such small and homogeneous states should have such clout in choosing a president for the entire country has always baffled and annoyed me.

I recognize you've been spewing your anti-HRC vitriol wherever you can put it, but I beg to differ with you on your most incorrect comparison of HRC's abandonment of Goldwater GOP politics with Rudy's abandonment of Democratic politics.

It would have been far far easier for both HRC and WJC after all to have gone GOP - it was the trend of the south and it would have saved them the merciless huntings of their presidency we are all so well familiar with (and of which continues on HRC). That she converted to, and remained Democratic states far more about her principles thus, than those who degrade her.

As a black New Yorker who lived through the ghoul's Bull Connor days where he showed nothing but hatred and contempt for black people, I'll be dancing in the streets when this evil bastard goes does in flames in sunny Florida! He refused to meet with the Manhattan Borough President and the state comptroller because they were black. The only Black persons he hired and could deal with for a time were two men named Rudy: Rudy Crew and Rudy Washington. How pathetically deranged is that?!! This man led a race riot of white policemen against Mayor Dinkins, a black man, where Guiliani shouted barnyard epithets while some white cops carried placards referring to Mayor Dinkins as a "washroom attendant." They jumped on cars and peed in the streets in front of City Hall while being goaded on by the ghoul.

To top it all off, he paraded his mistress in front of the press and announced he was leaving his wife, before telling his wife, the mother of his children!! And he wants that (rhymes with dollop) to be the First Lady!! Would anyone consider having Monica Lewinsky as First Lady?!! There's no difference, they were both (rhymes with brewing) married men who were still living at home with their wives!!

And the vilest of all: turning 9/11 into a personal cash cow making tons of money off the ashes of those victims! Disgusting!! I'd vote for a klansman in full regalia before I'd vote for Rudolph "Nosferatu" Guiliani!
