Doesn't your neck hurt, what with your head turned 180' toward the (often distant) past when making these desperate arguments? Yes, you probably will have to "pull down my old CSIS papers on the subject." Very old, apparently. Yellowed.

While everyone is going around chirping variations on the "Those who fail to learn history are bound to repeat it" canard, they are, at the very same time, condemning themselves to repeating it because they have learned it so well they cannot see the Here and Now nor the future. That blade cuts both ways.

Looking forward once in a while might be painful, but your neck would thank you for it, not to mention the rest of the thinking world.

Thank you. It means a lot to know it's not the amount of mud thrown at the wall but what sticks that matters. You and others here (who are not generally named anonymous) give me hope for the future, which is where we are actually headed, and we might just get there if we don't keep looking backward.

Bush may not launch a military strike -- but Israel will

While Bush may have been hampered in his quest for war, no such constraints apply to the rogue state of Israel.

Wanna bet that they launch strikes of thier own? They've pretty much stated that they will. Once they do, the spineless AIPAC-controlled Congress will be falling all over themselves to justify it. Of course, this action will have the same effect as would Bush pulling the trigger -- a wider regional war.

WWIII will proceed as scheduled.

Strawmen of anonymity

Anonymous' latest scrawling:

Yes let's toss non proliferation out the window because....because....because.... well because the Jews have the Bomb. Yes yes better we should heavily arm the whole world to protect us from those people. That will make everything better. Uh OK there's a rational PoV.

Fortunately, no one ever suggested anything like this. Seriously, Anonymous, rather than making up strawman arguments that you can go after Don Quixote style, you'd do much better to address things that people actually say. And in so doing, you won't look so foolish, thus doing your worldview a disservice by letting it be associated with such idiocy.

Start this way: What is your actual point? You seem to be suggesting that we need to go to war against Iran no matter what, and if you disagree it means that you thirst for the blood of Jews. Is that basically it? Please confirm, and in so doing, explain the mechanics that takes one from a distaste for unnecessary violence (which is what a war against Iran would be) to a desire for a holocaust against Jews. Please show this step-by-step.

Or don't. You can always continue the idiot tactic you've been using up until now.

Iran has no need for nuclear energy because it has oil?

Give me a break. I am sick of this canard. Canada has the second largest proven oil reserves in the world. Yes, that's right Canada. Yet Canada has 18 nuclear reactors. Is this because they want to "wipe Israel from the map?" No. Some countries realise that oil, no matter how much it has, will not last forever. So they quite wisely plan for the future.

Another good reason for Iran to have nuclear energy is that this allows them sell oil they would otherwise use themselves. This makes good economic sense.

Nonetheless, America will still attack Iran as all this talk about bombs is just a red herring. The real goal is the same as it ever was, total domination of the world's oil and the protection of Israel from it's many self-created enemies.

Even if Iran has a bomb, this is meaningless, or almost so. Pakistan has many - sitting on missiles. Why is no one talking about bombing them? Especially as they are only 1 bullet away from an Islamic democracy? What exactly would Iran do with a bomb besides commit national suicide? The destruction of Iran is a certainty if Israel were to be attacked with nukes, no matter their origin. Iran knows that.

The long game is to deny China the oil. If Bush does not attack and dominate the Middle East then his successor will. The American project for global hegemony must continue.

PS No one ever said they wanted to wipe Israel from the map. That is a lie.

PPS The NIE is just a bump in the road for the bush/cheney junta. They are routing around the damage even as write this.

@ Anon 12:05 PM

"All I want for Christmas is a holocaust" You mean an Iranian holocaust correct? Oh, sorry I forgot, there can be only one..

@ Anon 12:05 PM

Sorry I misquoted you, "All I want for Christmas is holacaust". (sic)

That little red line under a word means you misspelled that word. Too bad they don't have a way of drawing a line under bigoted statements.
