Dodd and Biden
Dodd and Biden are without a doubt statesmen who know whereof they speak. Obama could learn a lot from either of them.
However, I will pay closest attention to the candidate who addresses a plan to bring the boys home from Iraq and the domestic issues that face our country.
Let's not stray from the real issues.
This country needs help!

Not so clever, Ondelette
@Elephantman
What I think you're trying to say is that since the U.S. so conveniently eliminated Iran's biggest enemy, they no longer needed to have a nuclear deterrent, right?
Good point.
-- ondelette
Uh, negative on that one, Ondelette.
Iran's biggest enemy might have been Iraq, but Iran's biggest NUCLEAR enemy is Israel. Iran knows how Israel operates; quietly at first, then with F-15's.
And a free, democratic, western-oriented Iraq might just be a bigger threat to the mad mullahs in Iran than Saddam ever was. It won't be easy to establish a free, democratic western-oriented Iraq, but I can't imagine that eliminating Saddam wouldn't be the first step. Right? You got any better ideas on that? And don't you agree that the mad mullahs in Iran, and not the mostly American-loving citizenry of Iran, are worthy of being presured in every way possible?

Credit were credit is due
Biden in particullar has shown his foreign policy chops all along, but domestically he seems far less reliable. This is about a balance between the two, especially with the relationship between the economy and foreign policy. I hope he would accept a role in the new Administration, but like Clinton, odds are he would prefer to be a Senator.
BTW, John Edwards served a term in the Senate, remember, Walter?
I know you don't seem to take him seriously anyway. Clinton deserves no "experience" credit at all in the White House, as she had no direct responsibilty for her actions. Look what happened when she got that responsibility.

Good luck about hearing REPUBLICANS on NPR...
Frankly, I'm not surprised that "The leading Republican candidates cited scheduling conflicts and multiple debate requests from news and political party organizations...", per the NPR news release.
I doubt that any of them are up to that level or quality of questioning. Fave Bible verse, anyone?
-
Maybe you're asking the wrong question
Perhaps the great foreign policy expertise of Messrs. Biden and Dodd qualifies them not to be President, but rather Secretary of State, National Security Advisor, or Ambassador to the United Nations? The job of the President is leadership, not diplomacy. But it certainly argues in favor of electing a Democratic President who might appoint these intelligent and experienced men to such positions.
-
One however
"According to legend, the 5 o'clock-shadowed Richard Nixon won the first 1960 presidential debate against matinee idol John Kennedy among voters who only listened on radio."
There is no evidence to show this -- I mean, it could be true, but we have zero proof of it then or now.

My Guy Biden!
Oh, how I wish it were September and I could hope with any real optimism that Sen Biden had a chance of winning either Iowa or NH!
I wonder if the reason he and Sen. Dodd aren't seen as more viable candidates is because they are white men who look their age.
They are viable candidates for GOP right wing conservatives as well as thoughtful democrats. It is more difficult to toss word bombs at them than at a woman who is constantly villified and a black man with very little experience. I think that the GOP feels safer ignoring them.
Joe Biden is a well spoken, tempered man with the experience needed to be a great president. He isn't perfect but he is intelligent and understands foreign policy.
His son is serving in the National Guard and is either in Iraq or getting ready to serve. He has a vested interest in bringing our troops home!
Thank you so much for mentioning him, since I live in Michigan and the local Dems and national Dems have essentially ruined any chance for my vote to count in the primary, at least I get to tell the Salon readers: please check out Biden, he is such a great candidate that even my GOP friends think that he is a better choice than their GOP candidates!
Joe Biden is a Democrat who can cross party lines in a positive, vote getting way!

Iran
Iran's biggest enemy might have been Iraq, but Iran's biggest NUCLEAR enemy is Israel.
Anyone care about nuclear Pakistan?
No?
I seem to recall that one of those Arab countries (which one was it?) seemed to be literally selling nuclear tech right out in the open to any terrorist with a valid credit card.
Bush's response was to first do absolutely nothing, then deny it was happening, then to ask it to please stop -- and then go back to doing nothing. Oh wait! He did pose for a few photo ops at his ranch wearing a fannel shirt to show he was a "tough" hard working regular American. And then he went back to doing absolutely nothing.
Pakistan is basically arming any terrorist that comes knocking....so obviously Bush is getting ready to bomb Iran.
Wait....what?
Bush's gets irrefutable intel telling him, "Dude! You're a retard. Iran is NOT building a nuke! It's Pakistan that's the problem!"
Bush's brilliant response?
"I didn't know that. Had no clue. But it doesn't matter because I'm still going to give Pakistan a blank check, another 5 billion in cash and then bomb Iran anyway!"
So when our families die in a nuclear explosion we'll know it was because Bush refused to stop Pakistan!
Oh! And because a small army of mildly retard neocons supported Bush's moronic foreign policy.
Want a safer world?
Vote Biden!
-
"Good luck about hearing REPUBLICANS on NPR..." Uh, yeah.
I don't know how I should respond to that. "Amen" comes to mind. So does, "Damn straight." Either way, an "NPR/Republican Debate" sounds a lot to me like the mirror image of the "Fox News/Congressional Black Caucus Debate."
What does NPR host Michelle Norris' husband do, now that he is no longer working for the John Kerry campaign?
-
No big Biden fan but...
He sure gets an A+ for shooting down Hillary Clinton's bizarre rebuttal - her vote to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization actually put pressure on Iran baloney. Biden called her on it; good for him.
