What is with Salon's recent spate of carnivorous apologetics? I don't pay much attention to PETA and I don't know why they generate all this heat.
But wait; maybe I do. Perhaps all the fervid denunciations reflect some successfully pricked consciences.
Then too, some of PETA's more outré actions may be made to seem to justify a dismissal of vegetarianism in large. In other words, PETA furnishes a handy straw man, as "extremists" always do, for those who seek excuses to avoid examining their own choices in any way that might threaten to generate an impulse to change.
