Letters to the Editor

Salon crunches the numbers -- what happens to the 2008 electoral map if a third-party social conservative enters the race, as threatened, against Giuliani and Clinton?
  • I take it back, Thomas Garman - I don't love you

The funny thing is that in my commentary I didn't explicitly make an argument for or against SCHIPs. I was simply making the observation that Democrats do have a discernible interest in passing an expansion in the program, since it can be expected to benefit their electoral prospects. So, whatever else you want to say, their actions are not merely lip-service. Clearly you didn't catch this because you were more interested in picking an ideological fight. Whatever you might think, it's really not all that difficult to comprehend the underlying "philosophy" behind the Republicans opposition to social programs (although for a minute there I really couldn't tell whether you were espousing this philosophy or merely parodying it) - I have heard this sort of conservative cant before countless times, and it doesn't become any more persuasive the more you hear it. In any event, I can tell that you're a person not worth arguing with, because you believe what you believe, and I'm sure I'm not going to change your entrenched views of the world.

I will say this for you, though: you do have a rich fantasy life.
