When a person is one foot tall, he may call a two feet tall person a giant. Our nation in general and your party in particular has moved so far to the right, that any rational and modern political party who would be considered moderately right wing anywhere else in the world, like the democratic party, is laughably and comically considered by people like you as "Left". You probably believe that the universe is only a few thousand year old, so, just like labeling a moderately conservative party as leftist, you would undoubtedly label the notion of a 15 billion years old universe as crazy. The fact that you hold crazy and irrational views doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to voice them, but it doesn't mean that sane and rational people shouldn't roll their eyes either.

  • Consrvatives SHOULD stay away from Giuliani

if for no other reason than that the guy is a massive creep! So should everyone else. Underneath whatever persona he presents publicly is an individual deeply steeped in evil. No one, and I mean no one that deserves broad based public support would act as cruelly as he has acted toward those to whom he has sworn a solemn oath to stay with "till death do us part" and to his own children. What little evidence of his depravity that makes it's way into the public arena is just the telltale sign of vast reserves not seen. Those fools that think he is "generally a nice guy" are fools indeed. He is a monster's monster.

Does that even matter anymore? Just remember, he has no reason in the world to treat you more honorably than he has treated his own family. If it were a choice between him or Hillary (another monster), I would simply not vote.

  • Jingoistic Jesus Junta

Historically, the Left relies on revolutions; the Right relies on coups. That's because the latter represent entrenched power and interests -- power at or near the top of the hierarchy, who can dive-bomb the political sector; while the former will usually end up being disenfranchised people who rely on their numbers to bring about change -- power at or near the bottom, welling up from below.

There is no actual Left in America, but there is a very, very active Right wing. That's not even a point of debate, although from the Right's rhetoric, slugging away at strawmen and shadows, you'd never know it. Loopy as they are, they represent entrenched power and interests.

America is in no danger of a revolution, but I think it's in very real danger of a coup; maybe it already happened in 2000, maybe it'll happen again, as the Right finds itself unable to sufficiently sabotage the electoral system to ensure that it can forever win token elections without challenge -- the CNP and its advocates know where their interest lies: if democracy won't let them control the country, then democracy has to go.

We'll see where they go, what they do. The defining quality of the American right wing is how much extra-governmental support they have to protect themselves from the uncertainties of public life. Things like think tanks, ideological front groups and boilerplate universities, lobbying firms, and so on -- their ideal of privatization extends to the political and military arenas, making the public sphere private, and keeping it there, where they can control it.

The CNP's secretive, conspiratorial posturing is all part of the package -- wealthy ideologues looking to take over the country, by huckster's rook or by shepherd's crook.

  • This is a smokescreen.

It's the Republican Right meeting in a dark room to make sure the RNC knows that "their will be done." They'd never back a third party, too much disaster for them if a Democrat gets elected, but they want the RNC to know that they're willing to go "shopping" if Giuliani wins the nom. All tough talk from The Fundies. They know the RNC breads its butter, and vice versa. this is no more than a meeting from the mob: "suppose something unfortunate should happen..."

  • Guiliani's tightrope: Religious nutcases vs. Hillary haters

A split in the unstable four-way Rethug coalition is inevitable, and what few moderate Rethugs there are out there no doubt want one badly. If the right wingnuts go their own way into a third party the field is open for Guiliani to trounce Hillary. If Emperor Rudy moves too far to the right, to pander to Dobson etal, he will alienate this generation of Reagan Democrats who can't stand Hillary, but don't see themselves as Christianists.

The Rethugs have to write off the Christianists or risk becoming a permanent minority. The question is whether there are enough Hillary-hating conservative Democrats to make up for the loss of the lunatics controlled from Colorado Springs? That is Rudy's dilema.

The smart Rethug money (read corporate) would be on Rudy by encouraging a split now to create a more enduring centrist realignment. The other edge of the sword, however, is a split on the left, with the anti-war progressive/Dems, of which I am one, also breaking away to support their own candidate (hopefully not Nader). We are totally disgusted with with how the party has enabled Bush and his immoral war since taking over in Jan. 2007.

If significant portions of the left and right are alienated, and they are, a plurality president is assured, which is what Perot managed in '92 with his 19% of the vote. A four-way race is hard to handicap especially since the latest form of '08 Rethug voter fraud, and election manipulation in '08 won't be understood until afterwards, let alone countered by the Dim-Dems in advance.

  • The Religious Right a Joke

Mr Giuliani and Mr Fred Thompson are truely good candidates for the GOP and will receive more votes against the demorcratic candidate.....The Christian right will only be helping the demorcrate party, surely they are intelligent enough to know this! The antiabortion topic is old hat, enough is enough, get on with helping the GOP. RMA Kansas

  • Ha Ha!

This s great news! Nothing can stop the democrats if the wacko right wingers split their vote. All their stupidity will only get them a max of 40% of the vote... Our team wins!
