the real reason is obvious ...
... to anyone who has been paying attention. Everyone who advocated increasing U.S. troop strength before the surge suggested significantly more than 30,000 to have any net influence on the situation in Iraq. The relatively insignificant number that actually comprised the surge was symbolic, so they could use the term "surge" as if it meant there was a plan, and so there will be some troops to symbolically bring back in several months when they'll want to use terms like "phased withdrawal" and "initial drawdown" as a meager 5000 soldiers get to come home ... meanwhile, they didn't really bolster US military presence or initiate a new strategy or REDUCE military presence, but they get to say they did all three.

More than 30 Americans have died in Iraq this month in the "surge" and the best outrage we can muster is "big deal, Bush is lying again."

How could I be right?
You know, I'm a high-school drop out. ex-navy, no experience in diplomacy, foreign relations, national security or history. Yet when the surge was first announced I said he'll raise the troop level, then reduce it to the current level and claim progress.
What I want to know is how can this ass-much engage in such blatantly obvious BS behavior that I can see through it?

I have to disagree with this one statement in an otherwise on-the-money article. The natural course of events if Bush and Cheney went comatose would include Feith and Wofowitz going to Bush's ICU room to guide his hand in signing the Presidential Finding ordering the bombing of Iran.

If anyone else is confused by this logic, I'd like to know.
How in the name of Creation does Bush expect us to believe him when he makes such stupid assumptions. Does he really believe that, undefeated in Iraq, insurgents will attack the USA?
Bush, in his own foggy mind, thinks that all of the terrorists are bottled up in the fighting in Iraq, as if he knows how many terrorists there are in the world.
Give me a break. Since the Iraq war started there have been numerous terrorist attacks and failed attempts in England and Germany and elsewhere. This fact eludes Bush, apparently.
Bush has stated that he doesn't want terrorists to "follow us home" from Iraq. Has anyone challenged this idiotic belief?

The speech was a total flop
Of course, I didn't watch it. I can't watch Bush speak. He makes me want to jump through the TV screen and ...
No no no, Garry. You can't go there.
But anyway, instead of wasting 20 minutes on this sociopathic liar, I went to the supermarket instead.
And what do you suppose I saw at my Mega-Low-Mart? The checkout stands were jammed 10 deep at each line. Ordinarily, on a nice night like this, the store would be nearly empty by then. But tonight, Americans left their homes while Bush was speaking.
Nobody wants to watch or listen to that little turd any more. He's just a goddamned liar and every word that comes out of his lipless mouth is a lie. So why bother. You know what he's going to say. So go buy some ice cream and some eggs and milk and get some dish washer soap too.
