Letters to the Editor

Bush administration official don't lie.
Their sworn testimony is equivalent to a rough draft. As such, their sworn testimony it is subject to editing and revision during subsequent sworn testimony. Furthermore, they are never sanctioned for these revisions. Unless of course their name is Scooter.
-
Did he lie?
Either he lied or he is really incompetent. Either way he is highly qualified to hold any position in the current administration.
-
Whoa
Is that a real picture? He looks like Boris Karloff's stand-in.
-
Well if you're going to lie...
You have to admit he couldn't have picked a better congress to lie to. Whether from republican complicity or democratic spinelessness, if you're going to commit a crime against the people, nows the time to do it!
I mean these people make it seem like lying under oath is totally the thing to do don't they?
-
Did a Bush appointee lie?
What an odd question.
The really short list would be the list of Bush appointees who didn't use lying as a regular part of their work day.
-
Satan or Chertoff
He looks like a devil and I think he was the devil of Katrina(along with shrub and his puppet master .)All the kings players are leaving the ship except for the only one that matters, the godfather himself. The dems and all republicans are terrified of him. Including Bush. A hitleresque godfather.

Brains and Intelligence
It seems that the Bushits lack both brain and intelligence as does their Clown in Chief. Any person with half a brain and basic intelligence will certainly recall his actions and the important events in their daily functions such as important meetings. How often has the American public seen and heard the phrases I dont recall and I dont remember from key officials of this administration. Gonzales used those excuses over 70 times in one single hearing. Chertoff, his possible replacement is not any better. Will the Democrats have enough gumption to refuse the appointment of a man of his evident shortcomings to the most important post, the one that is supposedly protecting the rights of ordinary Americans? Torture and mistreatment of foreigners as well as US citizen is unconstitutional and resembling the methods of despised systems such as Hitlers Germany. Guantanmo equals the concentration camps of that time by holding people without trial. The creators of the US Constitution must be turning in their graves watching the illegalities of this bunch of crooks. Over 14 month more, watch out world, there is still enough time to wreck you.
-
This is like the 10th Bush is Hitler reference today
And you're screaming about his comparison of Iraq to Vietnam? Rings a little hollow.
-
DC Terror Threat
It seems that Homeland Security or Congress ought to be investigating this widespread administration memory loss. Maybe this is something the terrorists are putting in DC's water supply. It's obviously affecting our security at the very highest levels of government.
I wouldn't mind the memory loss so much if the agent causing it didn't simultaneously cause ethics loss and intelligence loss.
-
Hint, all have the same answer.
Did Chertoff lie to Congress about Guantánamo?
Does a Republican gay bashing Senator seek manly lips?
Does a Presidential Policy and Political director rap and pogo stick on stage?
Does a Vice-Presidential advisor get convicted of perjury?
Does a Secretary of State lie before a world audience?
Does a President fabricate reasons why the USA should start a war?
Does a President lie about his military service?
Does another Secretary of State refer to the President as “my husband”?
Did the EPA lie to New Yorkers about air quality after 9/11?
Does the same Republican Senator above want to rename Idaho to I’m a ho?
…. blah, blah, blah.

"Reigning in" the Reins
"DOD took the reigns"
I complained about this usage yesterday. The expression ought to be "took the reins", those leather strips connected to the horses' bridles. At this point, I'm willing to concede that the spelling, and the meaning of the expression itself, has subtly changed. People in this century understand "reigns" and "reigning"; nobody remembers that we used to travel around via literal "horse power."

Did Chertoff Lie to Congress about Anything?
Hmmm. . . well, were his lips moving?
-
A More Apt Question:
Has any Bush Administration official ever told the truth about anything?
-
Guantanamo, in song parody
Our VERSUS musical political parody website addresses constitutional and human rights issues raised by Guantanamo in "GUANTANAMO!" (to the Lerner & Loewe song "Camelot"). "GUANTANAMO!" is on VERSUS at http://versusplus.com/guantanamo.html, and on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZy9G0L592I.
-
What does it matter?
What does it matter if Chertoff lied, if Congress is unwilling to outlaw torture and enforce it by impeachments?
If Chertoff lied, it was because he felt that Congress did not really want the truth.
Congress is composed largely of corrupt, unpatriotic, self-serving, free-loading rascals, by and large, and we have put them there, Democrats and Republicans.
There are a handful of good congresspeople, but the vast majority are rascals.
-
Wake Me Up When Congress Does Something About It
This is what six-and-a-half years of a supine Congress buys us; an Administration that regards lying to Congress as a right to be exercised rather than the crime that it is that carries any risk of consequences.
The Republican Congress wouldn't hold Junior's gang accountable, the Democratic Congress can't. Effective difference on this front - zero.
And no, Gonzo resigned on his own terms, under a cloud to be sure, but on his own. Other than various Senators going into a snit, they never really took any action.
-
did chertoff lie to congress about gitmo?
he's a high-level republican appointee. ... so, yes, he lied.
-
That's not all he lied about
Check out today's interview of former Justice Department attorney Jesselyn Radack on Democracy Now.
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=07/08/28/1527204
(if I did this right, my signature should also link to it).
She charges that charges that department officials under Chertoff (when he headed the criminal division of the Justice Department) improperly questioned John Waker Lindh and that her memos raising ethical concerns about his interrogation were purged; also that he lied about this to Congress at least twice.
-
Well...
it didn't take salon long to go after chertoff.
-
Is it just me, or does Chertoff
look too much like Josef Mengele?
-
Proper Action
Congress should haul that piece of work before the Intelligence Committeee and waterboard him until he tells them what they want to hear. Put that Al Qaeda fellow they got to admit to doing things that happened after he was caught in charge of the bucket.
Put it on pay per view and use the profits to lower our taxes.
