  • History set to repeat itself?

Agree with most of this, however, Democrats had their chance to follow this very recipe four years ago with Howard Dean. He held no punches, was extremely aggressive in his criticisms of Bush and understood who he needed to talk to. Unfortunately, Democrats foolishly opted for a flawed candidate whose strongest appeal was his air of inevitability.

Regrettably, as Hillary's poll numbers look stronger within the party, Democrats are poised to make the same mistake in 08 that they made in 04.

  • A word of caution

Toughening up: Excellent Idea. Watching Webb's SOU rebuttal: exceptional notion. Running against Bush in the general election . . . hold on a second.

I don't want to see the Dems try to flog the Bush administration in campaign appearances while refusing to endorse impeachment on the floor. Talk about playing the all talk no action card for the opposition.

Bush is not running this time out. Harping on the horror of the last 7 years will give a boost to the Repubs who will inevitably be offering some variation on the "new vision" theme. Do not make the theme be about a need for change in Washington. The Republicans will be doing the same thing.

It is vital that the Dem nominee be one who can shred the Republican on their own candidacy. Sure, tug those heartstrings, play to the crowd, engage the overdeveloped reptilian brain of the primal response addicted voting public. All well and good since a cerebral discertation on the merits of one's ideas will get you only a slim portion of the vote (see Ron Paul).

  • Ask a fifth grader

Or ask any male in America the thing he has known since he was 10: You can try to hide, you can try to reason, you can cry, you can tell the teacher -- but you don't stop getting beaten up by the big moronic class jerk until you finally take your own swing.

I suggest the Dems get themselves to an elementary school to get their civics lesson.

  • Run against Bush...

Running against Bush makes no sense given that he can not run again and his Vice President has chosen not to as well. However running against Bush enablers, the congressional Repub-lackeys who have stood in the way of any attempts by the Democrats to move out of the Iraq morass and try to move forward a domestic agenda American want.

Run against Repub-lackeys rubber stamping the loss of civil liberties. Run against the Repub-lackeys refusal to respect the wishes of Americans across the country who voted for change in 06. Run against the corruption the Repub-lackeys colluded with and participated in. Run against the rampant hypocricy exposed over and over again. Run for ridding us of W and his lackeys. Relentlessly refer to them as the party of George W. Bush.

Oh, and when they mention national security, show pictures from Katrina and remind everybody how well the party of George Bush responded to a major (and forecasted) crisis in a major American city. The Bush party let New Orleans drown, how can they be trusted to ensure our safety in the aftermath of an attack.

  • Hey, Dems: Run against Bush

"It's the Empire, stupids!" (Cf. Churchill on India: "I did not become the King's first minister in order to preside over the ligudation of His Empire.")

  • Hey, Hell's Liberal...

The first person to bring up the race-baiting Willie Horton issue was would-be Democratic nominee Al Gore. Jack ass.

  • Why Michael Moore matters most right now !!

The basic thesis of my book, or one of the basic ideas of my book, is that Democrats don't understand the degree to which emotion matters and the development of emotionally compelling appeals matters.

    ----------------------

This is why the rightwing smear merchants have been swiftboating Michael Moore so rigorously. He is able to bring the facts together in an EMOTIONALLY moving way. I'm a big fan of all his work and I particularly enjoyed Farenheit 911. Farenheit 911 pales in comparison to Sicko, and although I liked and endorsed Farenheit, Sicko really sets the bar for implementing the kind of emotional message while also serving up enough technical detail (statistics on World Health e.g.) to withstand an outright charge of bias.

    Enjoy.

  • the mighty democrats...

i liked what was said...it's totally true. But democrats, are non-agressive; on the issues, yes, personality wise, no! democrats ask questions and give 'choices' for answers '(when possible)'; democrats don't fight, they argue; democrats are right in there as 'blue collar' running their businesses and working them...why can't the rest of the country realize we are (all) meant to be different. it's set up that way. as far as delibrate attacks on 'ones character', it just isn't professional nor is it logical! winning by 'default'?! bad politics! the government we have is meant to work together for the 'benefit of the people' not tear into each other for the 'things they do on their own time'...what is it you don't like about how 'an issue' is being handled is our concern! Tell them!... whether he or she came on too strong or agreed to a compromise in order to keep the peace is not our concern...if you've never been critized for something you've done or did recently or a very long time ago, then maybe you've never had to ask for anything you need in your whole life! whether 'we' win or 'they' win or 'whoever', they are going to be back in their perspective offices doing their more than average jobs, representing all of us and doing the same thing their doing now; but depending on the outcome, with more support and more decisions geared toward 'humanity' than "money"!!

  • who's running who?

it's not bush's government, it's 'the people's government'..as far as democrats, the 'good old boys' from the south are going to have to 'tone down' and concentrate on 'safety issues' with 'respect' for 'our children' and 'our way' of life! democrats won't negotiate anything less on those issues ! can a 'republican' say the same with the same result? remember you were boys once and 'your momma' said to be a 'good boy' and mind your elders! don't play with "guns"; they're Not Toys! on the street they kill people. too many "subversive groups" came about because of your "gung ho attitudes" and the "attacks" on the more 'passive ways' we live. republicans say no to the wrong things! you say yes to guns...we say yes to life! it's 'OUR RIGHTS' that should never be in question! democrats can't say no to those very 'things' and for the most part, it doesn't get done because you republicans say there's not enough "money". "Money" buys politicans votes. isn't that like accepting a bribe? it's all a matter of money to you. i guess you've never been in need... no one is against bush; 'you people' that put him in office have been pulling and pushing on him to "fight"! but the fight is everything unethical and immoral about 'our' way of life!! he doesn't have your loyalty unless he agrees with YOU! we won't compromise ourselves anymore for you with a ____ answer! live and let live!!!!!!
